New Player (Can anyone help me out?)

Hi guys!
My name is Crescenity.
I am having trouble starting out.
I don't quite know if I want to go with one breed, or have a 'collection' of 10x4's to compete with?
I love 'Bully' Breeds and own a APBT in real life (he's a real sweetie! :3 ), so I like the Idea of starting out with Pitbulls. But it's seems they are an over popular breed on here and there's so many 10x4's out there. So I guess I'm kind of afraid of going with them, just to be 'going around in circles' so to say, as they don't seem to have much 'value' to them. Or should I go with a breed that has less dogs at 10x4, and have fun with showing them, knowing that they do still have value to them? But then there is also the problem of having the funds in the first place to obtain such breed (50k seems a bit hard to start out with).

Can anyone give me any advice or can anyone help me out in the dog section of things?
It'd be MUCH appreciated!! :D

Here is my kennel: <a href="http://virtualpups.com/index.php?r=kennel/view&id=504758"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://virtualpups.com/index.php?r=kennel/view&id=504758
Sorry it's so plain :/

 • Hello there and welcome to VP, always happy to see a new player.

Since your just starting out things can be a bit confusing at first. What helped me was looking through the help files here on the forum and just kind of experimenting to get the hang of things. 10x4's in some breeds are more rare than others as some breeds are hard to breed up to 10x4 and others come a bit easier. Like wise this means some 10x4's will cost more while others can be picked up cheaper. 50k is kinda hard to grow but can grow with some work and luck. There's lots of great members here who love to help out new players. some have help programs and may even give away or sell cheap event dogs. Maybe you could look in the rescues for a dog that's already trained and ready to event and see how that goes before getting serious with one breed.

Not sure if that actually helped or not lol. Hope you get thing figured out and if I can I'll be glad to offer some help.

p.s. I and other players on here also have APBT's in real life. They are great dogs and my boy is a big sweet baby too.
 • Thanks for the reply!

I just have a few questions;
So some breeds are harder to breed up to 10x4?
How does the game decide which ones?
And is it common knowledge which breeds are harder, or no?
 • There's a lot of breeds that have reached 10x4 then there's some that have yet to even make it to 9x4. There's a list of highest started dogs under the tips and tricks section (I believe). Its a great thread to see where the breeds are at with their stats.

From my understanding all breeds have the potential to reach 10x4 and there is nothing in the game code to stop it. However, there are breeds that are stubborn and seem to get stuck at a certain point. The hyper stat seems to be a trouble stat for a lot of breeds and just wont get high enough to reach 4 stars. Not sure exactly why they get stuck.

Something else I wanted to mention too. Just because a dog is a 10x4 doesn't mean it will be a great eventer. There's a lot of factors that go toward that. for example I don't believe a 10x4 would ever be a good conformation dog as it judges a dog on its stats as closely matched to those on the breed standard page. Also training has a lot to do with how a dog will place in events and some events rely on birth stats. Some of my eventers that do well have been 7x4, 8x4 and all over the place. Hope I'm not overloading you with info. It can be confusing when your trying to get the hang of it all

 • Oh okay, I understand now :)
I shall go take a look at that list!

Thank you for your help!! :D
 • You are welcome :]

I added a bit of info to the bottom of my last post. not sure if it posted before you reply or not. It was about 10x4's and eventing.

Good luck and hope you enjoy VP. It takes time but you'll get the hang of it all.
 • Wow, it really does sound hard to find a good eventing dog lol

Hopefully I can strike some luck at least once. *fingers crossed*
 • It can be hard at times but once you get a good one it's rewarding. Here's a link that has helped me a lot with eventing and I still refer to it often.

<a href="http://ebilmoose.com/vp/wiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DogEventing"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://ebilmoose.com/vp/wiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DogEventing

It helps figure out what to look for in a good event dog for each event. It also will give you an idea of what training would be good to use.
 • Oh wow! What a great site!
Thank you so much!!
 • It has helped me out tons! There are also threads in the tips and tricks section here on the forum about training and eventing and what not.

Good luck with your kennel and have fun. Just get in there and get your hands dirty. Maybe experiment with some cheaper dogs and get the hang of things then work toward some awesome ones. If you need anything feel free to msg me and I'll be happy to help if I can :]

 • Hey there and welcome to vp! I go by several names but I'm probably most likely known as Wolfie. If you need any help at all please don't hesitate to ask. I'm a sponsor trainer ingame, so if you need some help getting your starting dogs trained up let me know. I also have the ability to post the highest purse events, so if you run into a lull between events being posted I can always throw some more for you ^^

 • Hey! Welcome to VP!
I'm. Garnet aka Garney, although not many people use that nickname these days with all the new flesh lurking around on here lol I have a sponsor training and breeding in game that I use to work on my line that I'm trying to get to 10x4 on. I agree with the others, if you ever need any help feel free to shoot me a message no matter how "stupid" or "annoying" you may think the question is. There's no such thing as a stupid question as far as I'm concerned :)
 • Welcome! I'm Alliemac :) I go by Allie, Mac, or Mac cat most of the time :) I'm a sponser trainer and I also have a boarding and breeding. I'm big in to eventing as well and breeding 10x4s. If you need help with anything or just want to chat feel free to PM me here or in game at Mac cat.

P.s. If you need any cheap training or some eventers to get you started shoot me a message :)
 • Wow thanks for the responses guys!
Everyone is so eager to help out, which I am so grateful for!
I am enjoying eventing the two dogs I have currently and although I'd like to do weight pulling, any dogs going well in any sport is a plus. It may only be small at the moment, but the times I do have success feels great and makes it easier to come back day after day to enter new events.

Coaster - I was under the impression that finding the right 'ingredients' in a dog for racing is quite hard? Is this true?
If not I'd love to have a go at eventing some Greyhounds in racing :D
 • Hi Crescent! Welcome to VP.
Everyone calls me Simm.
If you have any questions about the game, let me know. I dabble in training and eventing as well.
I have the largest collection of 10x4s in the game (317 out of 500+ breeds).
I breed, train and event Greyhounds in Racing as well (Coaster and I are rivals, I hold the highest speed record and she has matched it, but neither of us have managed to beat it yet!) If you would like a greyhound to start with, I'd be happy to give you a trained and ready to go Greyhound, just let me know! xD
<a href="http://virtualpups.com/index.php?r=vpKennel/view&id=460925"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://virtualpups.com/index.php?r=vpKennel/view&id=460925
^. Feel free to message me here on the forums, or at my kennel.

Welcome again!

 • Hi, welcome to VP! I would love to help you get started and hopefully stay on VP and event dogs. Eventing is my #1 passion here and we always need more dogs entered in events. So take a look through my kennels and pick four dogs that you like - then bid zero. My only request is that you pick trained eventing dogs and not just high priced, low OAK dogs. If you look, you will find many great stated, trained dogs. Also something to know while looking, low price does not always mean the dog is not good - a lot of times it just means that I got tired of pricing and put them up for adoption and sometimes I just go through all my dogs and lower prices cause I have so many of them. Good luck!

Rescue/Sales kennel link: <a href="http://virtualpups.com/index.php?r=vpKennel/view&id=415782"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://virtualpups.com/index.php?r=vpKennel/view&id=415782;

It can be quite hard to get started but once you have a good line going then it's just a matter of competing and trying to beat out other players to hold the best speeds (Simm and I are notorious for that!)
I'd be more than happy to help you get started :) let me know if you ever want a few greyhounds to get you started!
