yeah the area was going to just be a little bit bigger area for him, but then dad decided to make it into almost a round pen type area to work him in and it has a random little hill in one area and so on...needs leveled prob haha
oh yea! Definitally!

I know how you feel! Sadly i think Ro's gonna be a late bloomer. She just isnt mature enough for me to be comfortable on him more than sitting on him a tad.
Got his feet trimmed today, I wasn't home to see but according to dad he did great! Which surprised me seeing his hooves haven't been messed with much.. The woman whose husband trimmed him is who used to own his parents way way back when and she saw him when we first got him and she kept saying how big and well looking he has gotten. gotta love my boy!!
First of all..I'm gonna take us back to the first page for a second..not all barrel horses are pushy ;D
My mare is a barrel horse that I've trained and she'll walk into the gate, do her job as I ask (pattern, whichever way I decide to go that run), and walk back out of the gate. She might be excited, but she knows damn well I can make her do whatever I want her to, wherever I want her to.
It's the training, not the discipline.(;

Anywho..back to the present
I like this paint quite a bit..She's a bit posty in her hindend, but she's built decently aside from that. I'd say she needs more muscle than weight, but it might just be the picture. I am curious as to what these other issues are (maybe I can help out ) and the situation y'all got her from as well.
Good luck with her.(:
I didnt say all i said most. Though you know i am against them after ive had to spend a year redoing the damage to my horse through a crash course in barrels. There are plenty that arent hot but it takes a special kind of horse and rider to be able to achieve that.

I like the paint! What are the plans for her?
they had to many horses really for the area and no need for her. She's supposedly "kid broke" etc..her other issues is she got kicked in her one back leg kinda mid hip? can't think of the word) they said it just started bothering her and that she gets stiff..but I think it's cause they rode her right after it happened..or so I think..I'll try to post a vid once we get her..she's quite the sweet heart.
It's nice you're trying to get her out of that situation.
Posty means her back legs are too straight and they don't have the bend that most do. It may just be the angles of the pictures, but it seems like she's a bit straighter than I'd like. But then again, I like my barrel horses to have a decent amount of bend at their hock
The best way to build muscle is a LOT of trotting on hills! Its GREAT if youve got a lungeline and can lunge her over some hills. If no hills... LOTS of trotting.. Lots and LOTS!

Also i would think that if she got ridden right after she got kicked that it might help her a bit more than letting her sit up. Think about it this way... if youve been hit or fallen off a horse or you get a cramp ect it feels better if you keep it stretched out and it isnt as sore until you stop moving then it tightens up. This mare might always be stiff. Or she might just need to be warmed up before ridden every time. Or maybe if you get her soft and supple from the ground she might eventually work the stiffness out completely!
posty legged isnt something you can work away. Its the bone structure she was born with and theres no changingthat i wouldnt worry about it! It isnt anything that will affect her longevity of life. Its just something that can cause a small change in the performance she gives if she were to ever show.
OOH! Derp moment for me!! When my mare got super stiff (and i mean stiff enough that she wouldnt turn to the left and if i forced her into it she stuck her head way out to the right making our turns SUPER funky!) i called a chiropractor for her. He got a couple of the kinks out and he showed me how she SPECIFCALLY needed to be stretched daily to get her supple again and stop her from getting stiff. I nowstretch her before EVERY ride.. no exceptions AND i get her chiro'd every time i get her feet done. It was probably one of the best decisions ive ever made concerning the wellbeing of my horse.
Mine is 70 per horse but he comes out to the house to do it... and i only do my show horse. And thats once every two months. But if it keeps my mare sound and happy ill gladly do t for her because a lot of problems started when she got her shoulders locked up from being so stiff
