Terrified to Drive

edited August 2012 in General Discussion
Not that I'm a bad driver, but rather the experience I went through last night.

My friend wanted us to drive with her to the store,,, mkay sure.
So we're on this road and shes going the speed limit (40mph) and all...
(forewarning: It didn't get killed or ran over, just hit the side of the car )

And suddenly dog just ran out in front of us! Like I know animals get hit and killed all the time. But the fact I was in the passenger seat and watched it hit my side. It was a black Inu breed (had a collar on) and I just started bawling as soon as I realized what just happened.
However we quickly pulled over but it already ran away... A guy came out and was telling us to calm down and he'll ask his neighbors about it... The poor dog broke her side headlight and the plastic grill. GAH crying writing this right now. I'm almost positive the little guy is okay though... omg can't handle my feels right now T.T

I'm so terrified to drive faster than like... 20 now.. /cries self to sleep.. literally/

 • I know that feeling :( I've never hit an animal, or rather had them run into my car, but I've seen two dogs get hit by the car in front of me and they not even slow down at all. Both times, I started bawling immediately, WHO does that?
The first was a Terrier mix, so he was a tiny thing - it was night time so I didnt get the plate number >.> but a silver cadillac literally ran him over, with both his front and back tires and didn't even hit their brakes. I called the police, and the humane officer I worked for because the dog had no collar or id. The police wouldn't do anything because I didn't have the plate, and it was already 11 pm. Rich, the humane officer, thought he was going to have to euthanize him on the spot - was convulsing and crying, it was so awful. And then, he stopped moving - jumped up and just ran back the way he had come like nothing had happened. I was in shock.
But for the longest time, I always cringed at the thought of driving down that road or driving past even a person with their dog on a leash.
The second, the dog was just a mix breed - and the driver started to slow down to stop, but then realized I was stopping so they sped off. This guy had his collar though, so I was able to contact the owner and tell them what happened. I just can't believe how heartless some people can be. I know my dog gets out of our yard all the time, we have one of the 'invisible fences' and my mom will let her out in the morning without her collar on, and I can't imagine what I would do if something were to happen. Thankfully, we have her 'id' on both her everyday collar and the outside collar - we also always get SO lucky, its actually amazing, because someone has picked her up every time (5 so far >.>) and have called us. We live on the mountainside, but there's a by-pass probably 2500 feet from my house (or something like that, its not far).
— sorry to be so detailed and depressing :x

 • I've been driving for a while now (about 4 years..) and that is seriously one of my BIGGEST fears... I've already been in near death car accidents but to hit something that's living and doesn't have a metal suit of arm like a car protecting it?? That would just kill me... I'm so sorry that happened Lulu. I hope you are ok. Did you ever find out whose dog it is? Poor thing.. I'm sure he's going to make it if he ran off all of a sudden. <3
 • Ah yeah it's really scary~ And I know Bobbeh, I'm okay hehe <3 And my friend hit the brakes so fast, I think the dog will be okay since it hit the side then ran off. I was just trying not to picture if the dog was a inch closer in the road >.< *snugs everyone*
