Attack of the flies!

Holy. Mother. Of. Pancakes.

We had an EXTREMELY mild winter. It seems that it never got cold enough for the flies to die off.
I just went outside to fix Ro's halter (he managed to get it half way off) and I was practically ENGULFED in flies! They're EVERYWHERE!!!!
They weren't like that yesterday but it's fairly warm today and apparently they ALL decided to hatch at once. I had to bring in all the horses and fly spray them and put on their fly masks they are so bad!

It's INSANITY!!!
Anyone else having this problem!?

  • We have mosquitoes the size of horses. >.< I'd much rather have flies, but I don't have animals outside for them to bother. I'm gonna be bloodless by the end of the summer. We didn't really have a winter at all, it went from cool 60 degree days all winter to 80-90 degree days now, and it's like the mosquitoes became invincible while it's cool and they've been hiding and now they're all 'I VAN TO SUCK YOUR BLOOOOOD'.

  • Ours is invasion of the ticks! I've seen a couple flies, too many mosquitoes, and a veritable army of ticks have decided to lunch on my poor horse! The grass has hardly sprung up at all yet, but the ticks are out in full force. D:
  • I prefer mosquitoes over flies... especially since the flies here bite like crazy and it hurts A LOT more. The mosquitoes here are only overwhelming right at dusk. I feel bad for those of you with ticks though. : ( EW.
Goodbye old VP, hello disaster. xD
  • Mmm. I gotta second the ticks.. Little freaks they are. When we got a heat wave (80 degrees) they must've come out in full force. My dog went out to pee, which takes her like a minute, not even half of that was spent in the actual grass. Still one of those freaks had already managed to climb on. Ticks can move a lot faster than they seem!

  • I once squished a tick against a bench, it was gross and went everywhere. I went back to the same spot almost a week later and it was still alive. They are DEFINITELY freaks. -__o It survived with only half a body. Flea infestation is a nightmare too. I visited my friend's barn the other day, and it was absolute hell. If you stepped into the grass for ten seconds you'd walk away with atleast thirty fleas on you. My legs were stinging and red within the hour, and I was forced to leave. I'm trying to persuade her to get her animals outta there!!
Goodbye old VP, hello disaster. xD
  • I stepped outside a week or two ago and they were all over the ground :/ I hate flies. We have major ticks now to, the dogs have to be treated every 3 weeks instead of four but they all have already gotten one tick each.

  • Odd... I haven't seen a fly yet this year, and I've never seen a tick in my life, even after hours of running through the woods and long grass.
    (SPIDERS!)
  • We get everything where I live -.-
Ticks just latch onto you from the most random places. I took my dog for a walk this time last year and stayed right on my street (no tall grass or anything) and still manged to come home and a find a tick IN my pants.
Mosquitoes are already flying around and at my job, we keep the doors open all day and night if it's not cold out, and mosquitoes just love coming in for some reason. I think I spend half of my nights working just swatting at them or running away. Nasty little buggers.
