A possible job? o.O

Today, I went to my internship at this elementary school down the street, as usual. This one lady was there also helping out (she's the parent of one of the children in the class). I was talking to her, helping her understand how to play the math game. And towards the end, she was telling me that she's looking for a private Spanish tutor for her son, so they can work on his Spanish. Then asked me if I wanted to do it. My first reaction was yes, and gave her my contact info. Then she was asking about my background history in tutoring, and I told her that I've been doing it ever since I was kid. Also, I have a mom who has 20 years of teaching experience, who I always go to for advice.

By the end of the day, I think she's more likely going to hire me. In all honesty, I'm afraid/nervous because I never done tutoring as a real job XD

Another thing, I also applied to be a part-time sales associates and a dog trainer at PETCO, just for fun and to try it out XD Well where I'm going with this is, has anyone worked as a tutor or at a pet store? If not, what job do you have/had?

 • Worked retail at a Halloween store. My coworkers were awesome (almost cursed there xD). The only thing was I got really tired with that job and the way customers treated the store started to wear on me. I had to ring people up and let people into dressing rooms along with stuffing costumes back into their bags and putting them on the shelf. I avoided the phone at all costs because I hate talking on the phone. I have a heard time understanding people. We had preteens come in and giggle at our sexier costumes and had other groups come in and grab obama masks and swords and run around the store. (Sounds funny but I didn't like cleaning it up).

Overally it was a good experience and I liked my coworkers which made it better. If I didn't like my coworkers, I would have hated it. Make friends with the people you're working with! =D

 • Hahaha I remember you telling me Tarn :P and tsk tsk tsk, for almost swearing. I wanted to work at the halloween store here, but all the positions were taken D; And oh my, I wouldn't want to clean up their mess. But that's good that you had a good experience there, and I'll try to make friend if I do get hired at PETCO. =D

 • Oh did you apply yet? I HAVE AN INSIDER TIP!!!! If you apply online, when you do the sections that say 'strong agree' 'somewhat agree' 'I dont know' 'somewhat disagree' ect. Choose a lot of the 'Strongly' options! I got automatic declines on a lot of applications online because of that. My old boss explained it was because the system rates how indecisive you are and if you but too many 'I dont know' or 'somewhat's, you will be automatically booted. =)

AH I wish I knew that sooner! When I was desperately job hunting, I must've filled out over a hundred applications and I remember usually hitting the 'somewhat' options.

But, I work at a liquor store now, and I actually love it. The co-workers became my family after only six months, I met my boyfriend there, and there's always something to do to keep you from getting bored and staring at the clock all day/night (unloading deliveries, stocking, cash register, dusting, straightening, giving up and getting pizza, penne and cheesecake from next door, and hiding out in the office with sudoku or a crossword).

It sounds like you definitely landed the tutoring job, but if you get them both, that's even better(:

 • Haha, I did too Max but what was funny was the Halloween store was near the end of my applications. I was getting pissed off by the point that I kept getting auto rejected that I started not to care with my answers and ended up using more "strongly' answers and therefore didnt get kicked out xD. My manager showed me the scoring system and how it was ranked by stars. He said one lower and I would have been kicked out.

 • lol I was tempted to work at a liquor store, but my parents refuse to let me work at one, due to the extremely high crime rates. However, it looks like I didn't get the tutoring job, because the lady hasn't called me, and I haven't heard anything from PETCO. But oh well, time will tell.
