Sims 3

So I was looking on Amazon at Sims 3 to buy it. (I'm one of those that is still stuck with Sims 2. I have all the expansion packs for it and have never upgraded. Now I am.) I saw that there is the option to buy a direct download or the traditional CD-ROM. I'm not the most patient person, so, naturally the direct download sounds more inviting. It's the same price as the CD. I'm a little hesitant about it though. Has anyone done the download before? Pros and Cons?

  • I downloaded Sims 3 Pets from Origin and it took at least 5 1/2 hours - the only downside for my impatient self. I'm worried about not being able to use my Origin account to download the game to other computers if I ever upgrade mine though... that would be another downside. With the disc, you can at least KNOW that if your computer crashes or you buy a new one, there's no problem with just putting it right onto the other one. However, it's possible that the disc can be lost. On Origin, you can easily retrieve/change your password and have the game forever as it goes into your "My Games" tab and stays there.

So... your call. xD Either way, Sims 3 is awesome! Sims 2 expansions will forever take up the space on my game shelves, though. :P
  • Sims 3 is Awesome. :D Def should buy it.

  • Glad to see someone else still plays sims 2 haha(; I have Sims 2 Pets, Apartment Life and will soon be getting Seasons. I also have Sims 3 but I find it harder to navigate. I only use Sims 3 to satisfy my creative needs lol. I like how detailed Create a Sims is on there but I only actually use Sims 2 to, er, play. It sounds so childish when I put it like that lol...play.

Just the one expansion was like 3.5GB or something, and Sims 3 itself it like, 5gb+ *shudders*
We only have 5gb of downloads so dad was a bit angry with me. hahahaha. I personally would want to buy the actual discs, just to be safe and the impatience of waiting for it to download is unbelievable. ;D
I don't play it all the time, but when I do I play it, it's for at least 3 hours.
:P

  • Love the game, but a cd does take some time-expansions download quick like 20 minutes but the main cd can take a couple hours.

  • I have Sims 3 and Pets. I love it! I'm not great at the game but I do get bored semi easily so I don't play as often as I used to.
  • I'm so in love with Sims 2 that I'm afraid I won't like Sims 3 as much. I heard there were quite a few small differences. Anybody not like the changes?
I ordered the disc for the base game just in case. The reviews for the download were so-so. Didn't want to risk it. xD

  • I found it so different to sims 2, took me a while getting used to have a whole town to play in, also like a month later I found out I could change house holds on the same town T.T... I like it, just my laptop overheats too fast playing it, I don't know about you but I did get a shock about having the whole town thing to play with lol.

  • Tuff I was the same way. Then I forced myself to play my sisters. I thought it was ok. Once I got the pets though, that's when I started liking it. The one thing I find hard to do is get my sim in a relationship. I tend to work more on their skills in sims 3 whereas in the sims 2 I was a player XD lol
  • I'm pretty sure my laptop will be okay. It didn't overheat and such on Sims 2. So, hopefully it can take Sims 3.

And having a whole town sounds interesting. Everyone posting makes me more anxious to get it haha. Maybe soon I'll be able to get an expansion. Definitely the pets one first.

In Sims 2 I would have a married couple and get them both to the top of every career with maximum skill points. Then I would make them have bunches of children xD

  • if you hadnt bought it already i would have suggested Steam, download speeds are like anything else but you can add steam to any computer, its really user friendly and has many different games that you can buy and most for the same price as disk. So definatly something for you guys to look at, you can even get free games sometimes :)

  • Don't download, you'll regret it if you are an avid sims freak like me >.<

I have all the Sims 1, 2 and 3 as CDs. Except Sims 3 Pets. I got that as a download. And you do not know how insane that has made me D: Although I'm sure it has made a friend happy, since I could give them my login and they could download the game for themselves >.> Not something I recommend by the way ;D For sharing log in details is wrong no matter what site it is!

And it did take a long ass time to download :/ I like reading the little booklet that comes with the CD whilst it installs.

I am now waiting for Sims 3 Pets to reduce in price so I can buy the CD
>.>
<.<

  • I got it in the mail the other day and have been playing it non stop. I love it <3
It's true, there are substantial differences, but in my opinion, it doesn't take away from it. It's just different.

Now my little family has four kids. The Mother is an author and the Father is in the sports business. xD My house is really small though. I haven't gotten the money thing down. Curse my incessant spending.
    tuffalways_zpszw4dws9d.png
• I have the whole money issue too... unlike you though I use money cheats, cause then I can have a nice house, though i do still enjoy gameplay since i usually use all the money creating the hosue

  • Just wondering if ya'll used these cheats:

For Sims 2:
Boolprop testingcheatsenabled true = click and drag moods and skills however high or low you want them
forcetwins = when pregnant mom is selected type this and her baby will be twins
motherlode = 50,000$
kaching = 1,000$

For Sims 3:
testingcheatsenabled true = same thing with the moods/skills
You can also use the motherlode and I guess the kaching cheats on Sims 3 too.

  • Oh yeah and you can also type in 'freerealestate' then place your family and the house will be free.On Sims3

  • I've never used cheats in Sims 3 but I use them in Sims 2 all the time. I'm going to have to compile a list and start using them. lol I get bored rather quickly because I can never keep my people happy. I'm sad my pets and babies always get taken away.
  • I got one of my kids taken away for the first time and I was devastated. xD I googled cheats to get the kid back.
Is there a cheat in Sims 3 to not have the people age? Or make them younger? I know in Sims 2 you could get that potion stuff but not in Sims 3
    tuffalways_zpszw4dws9d.png
• I attempt to not cheat throughout my sims' lives. But then money gets tough and skills aren't building fast enough for their job so I relapse and cheat away. Sims 3 is so different compared to Sims 2 because of other families aging with you. I like it but at the same time, I hate it. I'm used to playing with at least two families at a time to keep me from getting bored. Now I'm stuck with one unless I don't mind my other one aging while I'm gone. At first I forgot about this, played with one family for a really long time, went back to my other one and the kids were all grown up - the mom and dad had died as well as their pets - but there house looked exactly the same... Baby crib, kid's bed, but no kids anymore. ;_; I LOVE SIMS 3 PETS. I can own a horse and not be scared of it. LOL. <3 I found sims 3 hardly tolerable without pets running around. Then I got pets and I can't get enough! I always want more and more pets!

Just go into options, it's somewhere in there. (during gameplay) and you can adjust ALL of the ages, long or short. I changed mine to babies-kids like, 5-10 days cause 30 is too long. Elders and Adults I have set at shorter times too, but Young Adult is always lotsa days. xD
You can adjust pets too if you have that expansion. ;D
I haven't played Sims in ages now... I got back into Pokemon. xD Again. <3

  • Ahh thanks so much. That helps a lot. The kid and teenage years are way too long. xD It's frustrating making them do their homework.
I like to get the people really high up in their jobs and there never seems to be enough time. I'm so glad there's a way to adjust it.

I really want the Pets expansion but it'd be another distraction from my homework haha. Don't need anymore of those.
I haven't played Pokemon in so long. I used to be crazy about it xD

  • off topic.. but I LOVE POKEMON. XD even at my age. hahahahaha
My friend just gave me season one of the tv show.. so I'm pretty excited about it. I used to watch it when I was a kid. ;D

  • Umm.. I'm not sure if the sims have it but the animals do under that wishpoint stuff make pet young again or somthing there is, its like a fair number of wish points to use though.

I love the Sims 3 Pets its the only reason I at last got the sims 3, the only thing that makes me mad is the made a smaller BT and called it a Pit Bull and the rotties tail should be stright not curly like a samoyed, their maybe more breed stuff ups but I'v forgotten them.

Hahaa, I recently restarted my HeartGold game 8D You hear they are bringing out Black & White Version 2 games? :s Hope they include new game play instead of just playing the same game AGAIN D:

I used to cheat left, right and centre when playing Sims. But would get so bored of getting to the top of the career so fast, and having a house with everything. I tend to pick existing households that have the smallest house, and build the family up. I am currently obsessed with making HUGE family trees. But for some reason my huge family got screwed up somewhere because I now can't open the family tree e.e Not a happy moose, as I was on the 4th Gen with babies on the way D< Then if you move that family to a new neighbourhood you lose their connecting family ties :(

The only cheat I really use is in making friends when I want to meet new Sims to pick someone to add to the family. I always pick an outsider woman, the men continue the family name xD Can "make friends for me" or whatever it is called with the TestingCheatsEnabled True

I have a prima guide for Sims3 Pets and it has a list of cheats and what they do in the back of them XD

Tuff, you could try ResetSim FIRSTNAME LASTNAME to see if that brings your kid back. I know when my Sim started glitching and constantly appearing to carry an invisible baby about that using that "cheat" it refreshed her and she walked about normal again! The glitch was weird because she would get into bed, but then stand up (through the bed!) whilst sleeping and hold her arm like she was carrying the new born D: It scared me XD

  • Oh, and you can always turn story progression off in the options. This will stop the neighbourhood from aging. Or you can turn aging off, then just use cakes to make them age up.
