How to train...

edited December 2011 in Questions/Support
Well I was curious about how to train a dog in Weight Pulling as I found a lovely 9x4 Great Dane girl and thought I'd set her up to event. Now before you go telling me that a novice cant train - I'm borrowing a sponsor :P

From what I can tell... Disc and Working need to be 100 and Sport at 80. I also notice low aggression, high adaptability and Courage but I feel like I'm missing something.

Can anyone help me out? :)

  • For weight pulling, you will want an extremely high strength stat. If you have that, all you really need to do is train your dog in 100 discipline/100 work and rough house whenever is necessary. The third skill is optional. :)

    On an indefinite hiatus.
  • I noticed that the highest winning dogs were ones with low aggression so I trained my dog using friendly play :)
I think she turned out pretty well - now it's the waiting game!

  • Low aggro for weight pull if fine. That is how I did mine - just in case they start losing in weight pull and I can then event them in obedience.

  • Nacie, it was your dogs I was basing mine loosely on xD
If you want, my banner is a kennel link and you can look at my Dane :)

  • I took a look. Her strength is 133 which is a bit low for weight pull right now. The going strength is in the high 140's. But it is a start for sure! Maybe you can also breed her and get higher strength?

  • I'm just a novice right now, but I will breed her eventually! :D
I wanna see how she shows first ^^

  • Sounds like a good plan - good luck!
