Pet Snail Care??

Does anybody know anything about taking care of snails? It's just a simple garden snail that I founf outside. I'm also in need of a name, I've been calling it a he, so boy names would be appreciated.

I found some info on what they eat. Some sites have said that they'll eat any plant outside, lettuce, flowers, boiled (and cooled) carrot or potato. The sites also say that they should have a dish of water, but not deep enough so they drown. And that they should also have a cuttlefish bone or egg shell for calcium.

Another question, how big should (insert snail's non existent name here)'s tank be? He's about the size of a quarter or so.

Any info would be helpful. Thank you!

 • Snails are actually hermaphrodites. :) that means they are both male and female but take on one role to mate, then switch, so that both snails produce babies.

So for names, you might want to go with a name that works for girls and boys lol.

Like, Charlie.
Yea this little ...it...is a land snail so I can't put it in water like that, it would drown. I had a water snail before and it got HUGE lol. He grew to be about half the size of a dollar bill.

 • Aww I love snailies! I would name it Pumpkin, but that's just me (; But yeah... I used to collect snails when I was little(er) and I would just feed them lettuce and carrots occasionally so they don't get bored. (: Just make sure the dish isn't so tall the it can't get to it's water... like I used the lid to a container. Like, a plastic one and just filled the edges and then also got to the point where it covered the top. With the tank, all it needs is like a 3 or 4 gallon tank, and just put soil on the bottom with some rocks and leaves. (:
 • Oh wow that is great info! Thank you SO much! =D

 • Awesome.. glad I could help... you're welcome. (: (:
 • Actually neither of those are suitable for snails...

Snails do better on a high water diet, cucumber, occational apple, celery, Really watery veg, veg is better for them than fruit is...
You can also give them cuttlefish.. they can be well bed on earth/soil, if its not a pet brand then boil it for 30 mins to remove toxins/ect
also spraying them with water, but not too much..
Its also been know for 1 snail to reproduce on its own so if it does produce eggs then putting them in the freezer will kill them, if not youll have about 20 babies, maybe more

 • Ah ok, yea he/she/it seemed to really like the piece of lettuce I gave it this morning. Could I use regular dirt from outside for its bedding?
