Ads and Beggers

edited August 2011 in Vent
I am sorry, but this is the 12th time this week that I have opened a message thinking that it's a training job and just get a message saying "Great dogs for sale! Check them out!"<br><br>If you have ads then post them on the forum not in game PM's. I am always polite about it, just explain to them that ads in PM are against the rules and to go to the forum, but it is really getting ridiculous. Esspecially when I get stuff asking me to donate to their cause. I always read forums and if I see someone doing something to help the VP community such as contests and such, then I donate. But I will find it on my own. I NEVER donate to people who message me in PM saying something like "We are taking in all the unwanted VP dogs and giving them good homes. Please donate so we can keep this program going." or when I get just a regular novice begging for cash. I have news for you, the dogs in the game are NOT real. I am not giving you my hard earned VPC for nothing. I hate when a player won't let up on the begging too. When they say stuff like "Come on, you were in this situation once too", im thinking, your right and I worked myself up. My first sponsor was bought with VPC I earned as a novice which I then used to get a training kennel which got me a ton of cash and the rest is history. <br><br>The game is really not that hard. You don't need to send me ads and beg me for cash. Just earn it yourself. No one is going to give you a shortcut in life or in this game. I am always happy to give tips on the game when people ask me. I am very nice about referring people to the training guide and teaching the 3 tab system for faster training. And I am even nice when I get ads and beggers by just politely rejecting and referring them to the forum. But this is getting a little on the ridiculous level. I never report anyone for ads and I have never used my ignore button, but I am on the verge of just ignoring every ad that comes through as well as the beggers because if one more person begs me for 10 straight messages I am just going to ignore and report. <br><br>Maybe I am over reacting. Sorry if I am rambling now but I feel it needed to be said.

  • Agreed. I actually take it to my advantage and check out the dogs they have for sale. I've been known to purchase dogs for the sole purpose of neutering and releasing/retiring ;P My main intent is just neutering so it can no longer breed but getting rid of dogs for free, even, takes entirely too long. So I just retire/release since it's quicker. But yeah. If I get an ad, I go straight to the kennel and see if anything intact is $500 or less and buy to get rid of it. But I only do this if it's something poorly bred like a 2x4 Siberian Husky or 0x4 BC. Like that is just ridiculous because 9x4s and 10x4s are overbred and abundant for those breeds. I usually get messages from people soon after if they notice demanding to know why or asking why I did such a thing, I then reply calmly with a proper and detailed explaintion, and 95% of the time they then understand. And a few people hve actually been inspired by it and told me they were going to do the same.<br><br>If I get ads, I usually just delete them. And if I buy the dogs like above, I also don't respond. Then if I get thanked for buying, I delete soon after reading. If the same person continues to bombard me with ads, I put them on ignore. I've never reported people sending me ads though. It's gonna happen regardless so it's just easier to hit ignore and you never have to hear from them again.<br><br>Now there was one case that was different. A person who -constantly- sent me ads about their dogs was put on ignore on all of my kennels since they sent to all of my kennels. A friend of theirs was one day helping them to advertise. And this is how I went about it: I looked at the dog, wasn't interested, noticed it was owned by the player who I ignored, asked if it was them or if they were helping them out, was told they were their friend, and this is how I responded:<br>"Yes..but technically, advertising (spamming) is against VP rules. As is harassment which can technically be considered what you're doing for [name removed for posting use] :) As I have grown tired of the constant ads sent to my kennels and ignored that kennel on each of them. Meaning [name removed for posting use] is still trying to contact me even though I have clearly put her on ignore. So. Not saying that you have offended me in any such way, but I am giving a first and only warning for your future reference and to report back to her. The next time I receive an ad about any dogs of hers, I will report it. ... Aside from that, I looked at the gifty but wasn't really in love with it. Thank you though for contacting me to ask :) Cuz you are right, I do like gifties."<br>My problem was then resolved and I haven't heard from either of them since.<br><br>As for beggars..I just delete their message. I never donate money. If you are in the negatives, it's because you clearly can't manage and/or budget your money well. If you're low on cash, build it up on your own. I have not -ever- asked for donations. Ever. I don't ask for money from my friends, I do not ask for money from anyone else. I make money by working for it. Sometimes I receive extra money as a tip from those who send me dogs to train and I respond gratefully. With friends I playfully scold them telling them they're giving me too much ;P But yeah. You're not over reacting. It's quite annoying getting messages like that to begin with, nevermind getting a lot of them in a short amount of time.

  • Hate it hate it hate but I am guilty of sending ads but it's for good dogs to people that I know will be interested.I also get a lot of pms from novices saying I'm in the neggies and need dog trained can you do them for free.I tell them to read my prices and training section.if it doesn't say it's free it's not free.
  • I always look at people's stuff, but today I got an ad that basically said ' THIS ISN'T AN AD would you buy my dogs?'<br><br>-headdesk-<br><br>And then, the other day, a -sponsor- messaged me saying they had good flyball dogs - alright, I was asking for them. Cool. But when I found out the mother she was breeding wasn't stat trained I refused to buy. They got really mad and PMed me for the next 10 minutes about how much of a loss it was, how they would beat me all the time in flyball, how much I would regret it. They found every possible excuse. I enventually told them to stop because it's harrasment, and they were all snarky about it.<br><br>People are desperate. I have 3.4 mil on my showing kennel and only 30k of it has been donated, thanks to nice people. You don't need to beg people for money to make it and try to force it down their throats, my goodness.

  • *clicks "like" button* Lol. I've gotten ads from people saying "Sorry if you don't like ads but.." or stuff saying it's not an ad but it is. The other day this person claiming to be a new player sent me a message. At first it asked for tips then asked to donate dogs, vpc, or maybe an upgrade. I'm like, excuse me? If you can't afford it, what the hell makes you think someone else is gonna give one away with a snap of the finger as if it's no big deal? I didn't say that but that's what I said to myself. So -maybe- I would've given tips but when it got to wanting donations and then suggested an Upgrade? That's when I just deleted the thing.

  • Oh man, not over reacting at all. I'm geting sick of ads too, its crazy. The other day I was giving away a couple dogs, and somebody messaged me about it (I had said that the first person to message me, got the dog) and so I showed them the dog, and they replied "Oh I didnt really want the dog, I just wanted to -tell- you to go look at my dogs and buy some". =O Rude much? And this person was a sponsor so they could've posted the dogs for sale on the Bark Park, plus the Forums.

  • They are not meant to send ads anyways, just report them end of story.<br><br>If they want people to know they have dogs for say there is a place on the forums or there is auctions.

  • Just "ignore" them and don't reply, I know I sound mean saying that but in till VP lets hide if we are online or not, I would just say don't waste your time replying after how many times, I don't even waste it. xD

<br>Maybe it was the same one asking for one of my Kitsunes. It's not personally my PB but it is a PB. I said No, sorry. And they said aww ok:( So I just deleted and moved on with my life. I only put people on ignore if they harass me enough. Usually just replying with no makes people go away and/or not replying any further. <br>

<br>I don't like to ignore first thing cuz I find it slightly rude. Asking for a dog doesn't necessarily mean they expect it for free. I know personally I ask an initial question first and details after. So they could be waiting for a yes or no before giving an offer. So asking to buy a dog isn't advertising meaning it's not against the rules which then makes you look like an (insert word) =) At least in my opinion. Granted some people don't like to be bothered but that can be clearly shown and avoided by simply putting "Do not ask to buy my dogs" and/or "Do not send me ads". Then if people are unobservant enough or ignorant enough to message you anway, that's their problem and then that seems more like a sufficient reason to ignore and/or report because some people actually don't mind recieving ads and if they've gotten that kind of response from someone, if they see someone else online without a clear warning might give them the impression it'll be the same with that person. Ya know?

  • I know that. Which is why I said I don't ignore first thing if it's not advertising dogs for sale.

I see no need to waste time, its not like I know them will deal with them in my person life? so it will never matter... and I like the "ignore" it works like a life saver.<br><br>I'v found a few people very rude when asking for dogs, they have seem pushy, do I need to even reply to them? <br><br>The thing about placing "Do not send me Ads" has not always worked, how come I still get them? I would like something, that I can hide offline.. to stop this.

  • My point was that sometimes people just want to buy dogs and if this wasn't made clear to me on a kennel description that they didn't want to sell any of their dogs and I was placed on ignore without having gotten back to, I'd be rather offended by feeling that was rather rude. Just that instance alone. I'm not talking if it was asking about a PB or an import or gifty or any other dog, I mean the situation as just that. What I find reasonable is placing someone on ignore if they were harassing you or could easily find out before messaging you that you did not wish to sell any dogs. Instead of doing so, it's really not all that much harder to say No and be done with it. I tend to just delete messages without even doing so, my whole input was on putting someone on ignore for simply asking about a dog. If it were advertising sales, that's different. And I was just giving my opinion in general, it wasn't an attack against your methods. Again just assuming people know/can put together what I'm talking about >.>

<br><br>I don't see it as a attack as you can't show anything in text pretty much unless you wanna do stuff to show it like -happy face- or -sad face- so on so on...<br><br>I don't know how you see, but to me typing no to "every" pm, no thank you, better than wasting my time... if the person finds it rude, I don't see it as my problem, and really I like being lazy and not replying when I see no point, if the dog is "not for sale" its not for sale?

  • Mmm. Well I kinda can't have my dogs up for sale as they need to be in boarding and I also might sell if I get a good enough offer and/or don't need the dog. So I encourage people to ask, knowing quite well people are gonna ask about dogs I don't wish to sell but that's a consequence that comes along with allowing people to ask me and I deal with it. It's just a difference in personal interest. Anyways. I shall put this to rest for others to rant about their experiences ;P

  • I am a Novice and I could be blamed when I first started out this game I sent ad's like all the time. Until I found out they were against the rules and stuff then I quit because I realized how annoying it was to people. Now that I have been playing for almost 2 years and now I defiantly realize how annoying ads are because people do them to me all the time. I do the whole Thanks but no thanks and then explain to them about the forum and how much easier it is to sell your dogs on here then just sending annoying ads to everyone that is online because most of the time people will ignore them as on the forum if they see a topic that Interests them they will look at it and probably do something to buy the dog/s. I just think the main problem is that when people first start the game they are not educated enough about everything. =]]
