People not taking things seriously >.

*epic sigh of frustration*

At work I am working on rehabilitating a horse who came to us 300 pounds underweight, a horse who was rescued from a slaughter house, and a horse who was left in a field to basically die.
Let me start with the horse that was 300 pounds underweight as my example. Obviously he was seriously neglected, and he is terrified of EVERYTHING.
Even the found of a light switch sends him into a frenzy.
Right now at the barn we have very, very, very strict rules that were made for a reason.
...and it seems that some people are not following them and not taking them seriously.
On 3 of the horses stalls they have signs that say "Trainers and Employees Only!" for safety reasons.
Trace (the horse that used to be 300 pounds underweight) has one of these signs because he is so spooky and sooo unpredictable.
Well yesterday I caught a 4-H kid trying to open his stall. >.<
Her excuse..."I just wanted to pet him."
*sigh* Okay, 1. He is pinned to the back wall, ears back, stomping, CLEARLY he doesn't want to be messed with.
2. THERE IS A HUGE RED SIGN SAYING THAT TRAINERS AND EMPLOYEES ARE THE ONLY ONES ALLOWED IN THERE!

All of the kids KNOW that they are NOT trainers and are NOT employees unless otherwise told.
Granted I am a kid myself, but I was HIRED as a TRAINER. That is why I am there for crying out loud.
And of course all of the other kids who are my age or even older than me try to give me crap about how I think I'm better than them. I don't think I am any better than any of them.
I've tried to make my point that I was hired to rehabilitate and train, not to make a show of myself.

It's just been really frustrating lately and I felt I finally needed to vent about it.
My ankle is healing, but not as fast as I would like (I broke it in June). Kids are giving me a hard time because they are convinced I get special treatment. And people are not taking rules seriously, which as a result could get them seriously injured.

/end frustrated rant

 • I understand your frustration. Those signs are there for a reason. That poor baby has a long road to recovery ahead of him and he needs a stable environment, it's a very serious thing. People should respect that.
Thanks for understanding. He's such a sweet horse and so much fun to work with, but like you said...it's a stressful environment for him, especially with all the kids around. I really hope to make it clear that they need to respect the rules.

Yeah, that's what makes me the most angry. They think I'm getting special treatment. If they would act a little more mature and do what they're supposed to they would be able to be doing what I'm doing.

 • What is so unfair is that if a horse were to injure a kid their parents would be there DEMANDING the animal be put down. Or at least reprimanded. I think people need ot teach their kids what signs are for and to not disobey. Now days no one watches their children and that is why so many get hurt.

Horses are not some puppy that you can push down or a cat that if scratches you, you are most likely going to survive. Horses are big and can be highly unpredictable, even trained ones. It sounds like you probally saved that kids life. Or at least severe injury.

And as for people thinking you get special treatment, let them. They are just jealous as they obviously know you are better than them. Don't let it get ot you. 8)
 • *Sigh* Common sense, people. A horse has his ears pinned back and is in the back of his stall. Don't think he wants to be patted. I had riding lessons for a while, and mucked out a lot of stalls. I haven't been around horses all my life, but seriously? I'd probably walk away if the horse was that stressed by my presence.

Anyway, poor boy. Disgusting what people can do to animals.

 • Children who do not listen when it comes to horses aggrivate me. I was at a horse judging competition with my team and my friend and i were going to go look at the other horses. Well the intermediates asked their parents (not us...) if they could go with us and we werent aware until they kinda showed up that we were responsible for them. Sooo we were lookin at some of the show horses and these little girls were running off to where we couldnt see them and trying to pet horses who were trying to nip them and this one girl got an attitude with me when i told her not to try messing with the horses. She told me (a legal adult) that i was not her mother and that she didnt like being told what to do. Sooo i went straight to her mother and told her politely that if she is going to go with me then she's gonna listen to me because i am legally responsible for her and if she gets hurt i could be into a legal suit or something. Sooo needless to say she stayed with her mother when me and my friend went to look at the other side of the barn.
