Putting a Block on Computer ID unless Sponser

edited March 2006 in Game Suggestions
I'm not sure if it's possible, but I'm pretty sure due to the fact that when I was banned as Werewolf I wasn't able to get a hold of the site from my main school computer.

I am getting sick and tired of novices ignoring the rules on the signup rules
<a href="http://www.virtualpups.com/index.php?action=signup"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://www.virtualpups.com/index.php?action=signup

I mean, are novices so ignorant that they can't read rules?????

Anyways, if it would be possible of setting up the game so that unless you are a sponser account it would be impossible for novices to sign up for other accounts.

I mean, its inforcing the rules so there shouldn't be any complaints about it.

  • Why should the novices be punished just because they are novices? Sponsors make mistakes and break rules too. And if I am not very much mistaken you are breaking the rules by attacking novices. Not to mention it is very rude to call anyone ignorant. Would you like it if someone called you names just because they could pay for an account and you can't?

  • You're plainly missing the point again :? .. Novices happen to be breaking an actual rule that anyone and everyone can see...

It's there everytime they sign up for another account... well with other rules you've got to check them every now and then to see if your breaking rules or not...

What I'm saying, the RULE stating that ONE ACCOUNT is allowed per player unless a sponser happens to be where it is easily spotted meaning that MISTAKES AND ERRORS are based on ignorant and disregard for the actual rule.

  • I'm not saying that there isn't a problem with SOME novices making more than one account, but to lump them all together in one big group of rule breakers is a little hasty and unfair.
  • If you say what I think you are saying, you are just stating that the novices should be able to make only 1 account per computer/ip address.

What if there are 2 or more siblings that want to play the game?

Email address might work, but then everyone would make more email addresses.

So..I don't know if there is a fair way of inforcing that rule so that there is no possible way around it..
Even if you do make the ip only have 1, people would just go to someone else's computer to make more...... Library, school..

So..

I also agree with Deedee.

You cannot shove them all into one group and say they are all troublemakers. I only want 1 account... I only need one account...

You are plainly missing the point I was making. You are breaking the rules by attacking novices. We are NOT allowed to attack any other player on this game and this is the second time you have made a rude and abusive post about people breaking the rules. Who are you to call other people ignorant? That is rude and abusive to call people names it is also very childish. Personally I thought the suggestions section of this forum was for suggestions that would make the game more fun or better for all places. Not a place for you to suggest how Novices should be punished for breaking rules. That decision is not up to you.

  • I'm half and half on this, the rule is one account per household unless someone in that household owns a sponsor account, then they can create 9 novice accounts.

I don't like the attitude in this thread even though it's a pretty good idea and would love to see it put into the code.
  • no comment -_-
gone for good because of something -.-
  • Sorry Nitty, I was probably part of that attitude :(

  • I'm just going to say one thing...

This may seem a little harsh to some but allowing people to have more than one account when they are not allowed to and not doing anything to stop it is only enforcing cheating.

A lot of younger children play this game and by not laying down some real rules that can be effectively enforced is simply causing them to believe that until they get caught they can go around cheating as such as they want and in any way that they want to. Is this GOOD influence for such younger children, I'll let you decide that...

As for lumping novices together whom have more than one account as cheaters, it's a basic rule that everyone notices when they sign up. If you're going to ignore such an obvious rule you might as well remove all rules that happen to govern this game.

Also, do you think it if FAIR to novices whom actually obey that one account per household rule to suffer with having only that ONE account while other novices go about getting as many accounts as they want, transfering moneys to one major account, and using these secondary accounts as a means of holding dogs that they are no longer interested in?

I'll also allow you to decide that on your own...

As for the attitude, I agree with Nitara... obviously some people simply jumped to conclusions and then jumped on that bandwagon instead of considering the big picture on what could be used to making this game fairer for NOVICES whom actually obey rules...

  • I'm not pointing at anyone in particualr, it's kind of a collective thing. The whole "I'm better than you because I paid to play" thing is working my last nerve to the bone. I keep getting reports of people actually messaging novices and saying that they are better than them.

The hurt feelings and all that make for a horrible community spirit, I don't want VP to into VHR, I mean I don't want sponsors refusing services and whatnot to novices regardless of the reason, or putting them down either. Sponsors and novices are people just the same, no ones better than the other, and in my opinion, the ones going around and saying such things need to be booted off the site.

Now as for this, people make mistakes, some people don't read the rules, hell, I never did. It bugs me to have to report people all the time for having multiple kennels, as well as the 20 something messages I get a day about multi-account novices. I would love to see an ip block that was lifted only when you purchased a sponsor account.

People breaking the rules pisses me off too, but everyone slips up, regardless. I've broken a few rules before, I've been reprimanded as well. You live and you learn (damn it, I'm ranting again -_-) If the idea was pitched in a nicer way, I'm pretty sure more people would be all over it, but rudeness, breeds rudeness and I'm getting so sick of this "novices are scum" attitude that I'm gonna start banning people from the forum if I see it go on.
  • I guess I did seem nasty, but it's beyond annoying when every weekday and weekend I'm on here, I happen to notice a post on the bulletin board that indicates without a doubt that there is a novice playing with more than one novice account.

Example, not here on VP but rather VHR.
Through messages I found that there was a novice with 19 novice accounts... That's 6 times the limit on VHR...

So to me novices having the ability to create as many accounts as they wish without any checks until they're caught has gone on for too long and is entirely unfair to law obeying novices that only have the one account.

  • I have 4 little sisters, and if they were using my account I would kill them! They have a couple of times and completely messed up my dogs. So I blocked my password, and they created their own little puppy mill accounts. Now we're all happy.
  • if you don't have a sponsor account, you're in danger of having your sisters accounts as well as yours suspended
  • DH_Lebs, I suggest you bring it up kindly with your parent(s) and/or sisters telling them why they cannot play on your account and why they cannot create their own. The last thing we need is more puppy mill accounts.. -_-"

But as to the ip block, I am all for it. I get mad seeing people who have multiple accounts, because they are cheating and not getting caught, but being an op and seeing this would drive me up the wall. I totally agree with BrunDrake and Nitara, but novice-smashing is definitely a horrible thing as well. I'm glad to see that many sponsors offer severely discounted training to novices, but some of these novices go and sell the dog right away, taking advantage. I will not go and say that sponsors don't break the rules sometimes either. Having $20 to spend doesn't make you any better than anyone else.. heck, some of the sponsors here are spoiled kids who begged and begged and begged their parents for days and days and finally got what they wanted. But some are also people who went out every day along the road and picked up cans until they had enough to walk down to the post-office and get a money order to send. And every single novice should be able to get a sponsor account if they are willing to work hard enough. (Unless, of course, they have no way to get out a money order) You can mow lawns, pick up cans (a personal favorite because it also helps the environment), shovel an old lady's driveway.. Where as some novices sit and whine "I can't afford a sponsor! Someone give me money! Waah!" Some. <--Keyword.

Grouping sponsors into "responsible people" and novices into "stupid irresponsible kids" is completely untrue and terrible. The only reason there is a higher percentage of so-called 'responsible' sponsors is because there are so many more novices out there; people who stumble across the game, say what the hey, and sign up.

*Deep breath* Anyways.. c.c;

  • Yeah, seriously. You can't say just say novices are ignorant (etc), I mean, they're people, and so are sponsers  . There isn't really a big difference unless of course you count a coupe of things on the game. I hve done this before many months ago, and I soon realized not only novices are like this.

  • Hmm....I do not see this as a whole nasty thing, but more of a "Somepeople are simply paying no attention." I wouldn't call it attacking novices, but more of trying to correct anyone who makes more counts than allowed, because even sponcers have limits. Sorry about bringing up old threads, I just needed my say -_-
