Bulletin Board

edited January 2006 in Game Suggestions
I've been thinking...... never a good sign

Game ops can not be on the game 24/7, no matter how many Game ops happen to be part of VP.

Anyways, so I was considering, if other players happened to notice a post on the bulletin board that was plainly breaking the various rules of VP, such as:
selling novice accounts
a novice plainly stating that he/she has more than one novice account
etc

Then that post should be linked here.....

Through this means, instead of Nef and game ops checking through a dozen of posts regarding the same bulletin board topic - it can simply be placed here and Nef/Game Ops can go through the list every week/month or so to see whom is breaking laws.

I realize that it may seem foolish, and blame a solid 5 hours of going to college for that :?

  • Are you saying, that players can link the posts here? I like that idea,

If not hte players, who, or what?
    Dun message me. I quit.

If you want a full explanation(most should know) message me
  • would hte post still be availible?

  • well let's give it a test:

This post - just mine for selling dogs
<a href="http://www.virtualpups.com/community.php?view=2&request=viewpost&idkey=95254"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://www.virtualpups.com/community.ph ... dkey=95254

was created on the bulletin board a couple of minutes from this post on the forums.... if it's still a link that you can click and follow after a day or so then we'll know that the links will still be active given a certain amount of time.

  • I think the concept is well intended but I don't know if it will solve the purpose or not. If offensive BB posts are linked in the forum and Ops are not required to check the BB on a regular basis, then those offensive posts will stay on the BB for the hour (or however long it takes for them to get pushed down the list) offending more people the longer they stay there. As it is now, if an Op sees an offensive post they can erase it and contact the player and take appropriate action. If, as you suggested, posts where linked in the forum and only needed to be checked every week or longer for the offenders, then that gives the offending players that much more time to post more offensive messages on the board without any repur ... repra ... dang I can't spell ... any punishments.

With the system set up as it is now, if there is something on the BB that offends you then you can either go into chat and find an Op there to report it to or you can message the game Ops personally with the link to the message. It means more work for the Ops but *dodging the dirty glares from all the Powers That Be* that is in their job description as far as I know.

So well intended idea I'm sure, but I just don't think it is the most effective in policing behaviour on the BB.
  • Yeah, plus if you post it here, people who normally don't check the BB see the link here, it'll just draw attention to the bad posts. Like Dee said, just go to chat and let an op know.

Yes, but if you're unable to get onto chat - I can't because my computer is too slow - this isn't a bad idea.

Actually, I wasn't quite thinking of the offensive posts - those should be dealt with through chat, etc....

I was thinking of posts where persons are let's say:

joefrommexico posts on the BB "I'm selling this account, message for price" and that account happens to be a novice account

And/or there was someone yesterday whom posted on the BB that they had opened another novice account because they "messed up" on their original account.

  • even if the messages don't get to us before they roll off of the bulletin board, we can still click the delete button and report them to Nef. I really don't want to see a bunch of messages being brought to unnecessary attention here

Yeah what if though someone notices a post and sends it to a Game Op whom:
a) isn't on very often and thus the message will generally be ignored until much later - by then who's to say what the messager has done.
b) the game op accidentally deletes the messages while he/she is clearing out the private message
