I personally don't think it should be banned.
It's a topic that relates to dogs, and since this is a dog site I find it appropriate, even if some people do find it touchy. At least it's a chance to educate others, because the one thing I've noticed about the pit bull topics is that a lot of people are falling victim to media myths, but they are quickly being corrected by more knowledgeable members that have experience with the breed. There have also been some very mature discussions on pit bulls in the past that never seemed to overly upset anyone, and once again, valuable knowledge was shared.

The pit bull topic should just be taken as one of those topics where people can show their maturity. If you don't agree with it, be mature and ignore it. No one is forcing you to respond to the opinion of the poster, and I wouldn't recommend it, especially if you feel it's being done to purposely cause an argument. If you want to respond, then just remember that they have just as much right to have and share an opinion as anyone else.
I'm done with VP. I'll just be around until I get all my dogs and lines placed in good hands. If you want to contact me, please do so through deviantART.
Whenever pitbull topics come up, Ops tend to watch them pretty carefully in case things get out of hand. The last 2 or 3 threads on the subject have been very mature without fighting, without even needing any kind of warning.

There is a difference between fighting and disagreeing or discussion. People are allowed to have differing opinions and they are allowed to share them, as long as they don't resort to name calling or slandering other people. Although it can get a little redundant going through the same argument every week, I'd suggest if you don't want to talk about it again, don't, or just link the previous thread on the subject. Definitely if you think someone starts a topic just to get attention, you shouldn't respond to them.

Religious topics are banned because they always turn into a "You're going to hell because you don't believe like me" flame fest. Besides which, religion has absolutely nothing to do with dogs. The topic adds nothing to the game and in fact creates very bad situations.

Politics are banned because they too de-evolve into flame fests with personal attacks against other players and again, politics have nothing to do with dogs. The topic adds nothing to the game and in fact creates very bad situations.

I would hazard to say that everyone on this game is here because they love dogs. Some of us only love big dogs, some little dogs. Some love only a certain breed or 10, others love every breed. Pitbulls are numbered among those breeds and though it can be a very controversial issue when it comes to dog lovers who disagree, as long as the discussions don't turn into "People who love Pitbulls are stupid" or "People who hate Pitbulls are idiots", people are welcome to share their views.

I agree with Bama and Sushi here.

People should have the right to say what they want, banning this may just create more tension. Obviously if people are getting rude about it then it's not right, but just sharing opinions and having a little friendly debate is fine.

I think banning this would be too strict...this is a dog game afterall.
