Open chat for everyone or not?

So, we've been discussing whether or not to ask Ari and Nate to post a link to chat in game again. We'd almost reached the point of doing so when something on these forums brought home how quiet it's been since it wasn't there. Not because of new players coming in who don't know what's expected or don't read the rules, but because of the players who've been here a while, know what is expected and what the rules are. Not reading the rules is not an excuse to break them. You will still get into trouble. But knowing the rules does not mean it is your job to enforce them. The instances of older players ganging up on new players are what alienated several veteran players when Ops had to remind them, sometimes with a kick or a ban, that it's against the rules to fight with another player or attack them just because they don't know the rules. Let Ops do their jobs, let them do the dirty work. If a player is breaking the rules, report them and let us handle it rather than going vigilante on them, please. If it's in chat, say "Op" or our name. Most of us have it set to beep us, so we don't even have to be watching chat. If something is going on, tell us and we'll handle it.

I say we should. It'd allow new players to experience talking with each other and starting to become more aware of the game. It'd also help them read the rules if they did break them once. I remember my first time on chat was hard, because I didn't know there were 'elites' in the game and it was a little difficult to adjust to. But, once I made a few friends, they told me that training before breeding was better, how to sp. train, and everything else, I grew to love VP more and provided more dedication for the game. VP Chat helped 'unnoobify' me haha. :roll:

I think we should try it. VP's community has changed from what it's used to be. A lot of players are gone, and most of those 'elite' cliques are broken up. I think the bunch of people we have right now are very accepting, and will hopefully set a good example in chat! Our community has also lessened.. bringing new people into chat may help that.

Although. I'm not in chat a whole lot anymore, so I am not entirely sure where we're at as far as rule breakers and such go. Plus, it may help new players stay, too

I know chat is the only reason I stayed around at first (even if it was because my favorite game was 'Let's see how much I can bug Nise!'.. but then I learned because I knew I wasn't going to be accepted by anyone really until I smartened up..)

I believe it should be added. Chat does exist and I believe it's unfair to not let the rest of the game access it. As of now, only the older players know it is there and I think more of the community should be involved.

For me, chat got me started in playing. When I was younger, I'd create problems on chat by purposely getting kicked for colors and using sounds. I thought it was fun. Once I got older, I came on and remember doing the Halloween trivia. After Halloween trivia, I came into the regular vp room more and actually tried talking. People started to remember my name and I started to make friends and became a good player and stopped terrorizing chat. Chat is a key role in making friends, getting a hold of ops for quick questions and learning about vp in general. Chat had been in place for years, why not bring it back?

I agree with totouser, considering I haven't been around the VP community long recently. and to me it has grown quiet, in my opinion of course.
