what do I do?

edited September 2010 in General Discussion
ok lol, hello all! I am new to VP, I have played VHR for many years & am well known over there, I've tried a few times to play VP for each time have failed in epic proportions, and I just dont get it lol

I've read over the helpful posts & what not in the forums, but there's so much about VP that I dont understand. Like, the stars on the dogs, and everyone wanting a "10 X 4"...what do those numbers mean? I know they are related to the stars, but I dont understand them.

Also, where should I start as far as getting started? I know on VHR the best way to make money is to event horses (aside from graphics lol, but I cant make those), is that true here? if so, is there any place I can find a cheap already trained dog that I can event?

how do you know when a dog is "trained" and when it's not?

 • Okay, I'ma try to use my... very limited VHR knowledge to help. xD;

On VHR horses have stats like.... Uh... Fair, Good, etc, right? Well, same with VP, minus the words.

There are 10 stats. Each stat can have a maximum of 4 stars. 1x4 means the dog has one 4-star stat. 2x4 means the dog has two 4-star stats, etc.

Eventing and breeding are the main ways to get cash here besides graphics. Not much is different there. <a href="http://virtualpups.com/index.php?r=dog/view&id=1445169"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://virtualpups.com/index.php?r=dog/view&id=1445169; Go ahead and bid 0 on him. He should be a decent cattle herding dog, theoretically. He's the best I can really toss at you right now as far as eventing goes.

Each stat has a number next to it. For most stats (with the exception of Loyalty and Aggression), the stat caps out at 200, but can raise very. very. slowly with more training. Aggro caps out at 250 and loyalty caps out at 600 and cannot raise higher than that. The dog also has four skills- Working, Discipline, Sporting, and Show. The dog I showed you has reached the cap (100) in Discipline and Working, which is what I do for all my cattle herding dogs. You can train your dog in every stat, but that's not a good idea because if he's average at everything, then he's good at nothing. xD You have a max of 280 skill points to distribute between the skills. Usually people train two skills to 100 and one skill to 80, but sometimes people go for two skills to 100 and the other two to 40.

EDIT:
Also, welcome to VP.
My name is Kazuko and I will be your tour guide today... *facepalm*

If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me.

 • w00t, thanks so much lol, you've explained SO SO SO much to me!

lol the past few times I've tried getting into the game I just couldnt figure out those darn stars lmfao

bid was placed on the dog, thanks again so much!

now, 'nother question, with eventing...is it anything like eventing on VHR? like, do you train the dog in anything between turns to make it better as it gets older? and do you have age restricted events here like on VHR? or is everything just open?

I plan on being a very active player once I figure all this stuff out xD and hopefully soon can get an upgrade :)
 • First off I should mention, training without a sponsor account (I assume they call non-upgraded accounts novices on VHR too?) is kinda... Pointless. Novices can only raise stats to 100, and that makes things kinda hard. It's best to send your dog to a sponsor for training.

You can show your dog in four events per turn. Without a sponsor account, there's not much you can do, but with that dog I gave you, you can Friendly Play with it to lower the aggression at the very least. I'm fairly certain dogs can be shown until they die, and events cannot be age-specific, but they can be group and level specific.

 • hrm, I see lol this makes me want to go buy an upgrade lol, so I can not ruin the dog you gave me...*ponders* I wonder if I can pull off the upgrade with RL cash or if I need to buy it with VHR cash...

w00t, ok, so I'm gunna go try to figure this out real quick, I shall be back soon!

thanks again so so so much!
 • =p No problem. Any more questions, lemme know. xD I'm pretty easy to reach.
