Veterinary Technician Course! 8D

A few of you know I'm starting a vet tech course. Well, actually I just started it Friday and it was beyond amazing!

The class doesn't technically start until the 30th but homeschooled students and students from this one charter school can start on the 20th(Friday).
But it was a -blast-. We didn't learn much medical stuff but we got a tour of the lab that has 9 bath stations(with a top for evaluations) and then a scale, a station with all the things you need for everything. XDD And then the animals!

They had animals there! I was so excited!

There was a mother dog(Nya) and her three puppies, only 2 days old! And we got to keep them warm while the mother went out for a potty break.
The mother is a purebred maltese, but rather than being white she was born grey and the breeder was going to euthanize her because she was 'useless' to him, and then the vet took her in and she had little puppies! Absolutely adorable. I got to hold the little squealing runt. XDDD he suckled on my thumb a little. x3

Then there was another dog, a female named Pepper, she was such a sweet girl. A little stumpy tail! She was such a well behaved girl too!

And then there was Chloe the cockatoo, she was a bit nervous but the vets told us when she gets used to seeing so many people again she'll fly and sit on our shoulders while we're taking notes and whatnot. XDD

There were three cats, Maddie, Grace, and Will. Grace and Will are brother and sister and were donated to the tech school for this program because the owner's son or something was allergic. These cats, especially Will are SO sweet! And then Maddie's was adopted by the parents of a son who was on a mission trip and when he came back they found out he was extremely allergic to cats, he had to go to a hospital and everything. So Maddie was also donated. She's a bit of a sourpuss. A lot of the students actually have thought she's bipolar. XDD She could be begging for attention one day and the next day she'll hiss at the sight of you. Today she actually came over to this one girl for attention, and the girl began giving her a nice ear scratch and Maddie rolled over on her back, and then the girl began giving her a good neck scratch.. Which Maddie decided she didn't like so she bit the girl. XDD She had already be declawed when she was donated, but she's got a nasty bite. So I'm glad I'm used to being abused by my cats! Particularly Eulah. X3

Ooh, and then there was Monty the ball python. He was a cool little dude. I'd never handled a snake before so I was excited! I got to help give him a bath and then the vet had to scrub some of his skin off because he has trouble shedding it and was actually blind for a while because his previous owners didn't get the skin off his eyes. But now he sees well. :] And the vet showed us how to tell a snake's gender which was very neat!

The vet is also planning on bringing in a ferret, some sugar gliders, a bigger parrot(with a potty mouth at that!), some kids(goats), and maybe a baby emu. :D
We'll also be able to bring our own pets to work with so we're not always poking and prodding at the animals here.
There's also a contest on Halloween to dress up your pet and if you win, you get out of an exam! Hurray! XDD
For my dog, I'm thinking Dumbledore or like from the circus The Bearded Lady. XDD Since she's got that beard going for her and she's fine with me abusing her even if she gets embarrassed. x3 I'm also thinking if there's some way to turn Andi(the rabbit) into an elephant with some sort of non-toxic spray stuff? I'm not sure. XD I'm looking into that, my mom suggested it.

So yeah! I'm super excited! On Monday we're doing hangman- medical terminology style. I'm thinking of doing pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis... But I don't know if the hang man is just for animal diseases or not. XDDD But I love that one and we're doing points and all so, I could get far with that one! Plus my Encyclopedia of Dog Breeds book has a bunch of medical terms in the back. :D

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to take pictures of the animals, but for the next week she just said 'bring something to do' since besides doing chores for the animals, we don't do much except talk. Maybe I'll ask and possibly get some pictures of those puppies!

Also, one of the student's family breeds yorkies and once the puppies are 3-5 days old she'll be bringing them in to get their dew claws removed, I believe? So more cuteness! =D

So... Yeah. XDD It was amazing, like I said before. < 3
General thoughts/thoughts on costumes?

 • XD The class is absolutely -amazing-.
I really like my teachers. One is the vet and the other used to take this class and she just helps out and stuff. But they're all about being a team, bonding with your 'coworkers' and being friends and all.

So yesterday ended up not being very exciting. There's only so long hangman can entertain you. But Chloe(the cockatoo), Pepper(the dog), and Diego the ferret were running around the room so that was fun. XD I did end up doing pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis as a word and I got a lot of complaints/compliments. I'm not normally one to show off, but I just /had/ to do it when the vet complained that Epilepsy was too short. 8D

Today she brought in two 3 month old emus. She's thinking one is a female and the other's a male. I don't know why I'm always in the -perfect- position to help her but she's just like "Dreamy." (only of course she said my real name. XDD) Then she gave me a 'come here' gesture and I held one down and stroked it while she got the other.
So she was explaining all about emus, how many eggs they lay, how the mothers are horrible mothers( XDDD). etc and then she was explaining why she thought the one was male and the other female. She pointed at the one I was hold and was like "THAT one is a psychopath."
Real nice. I get to hold a snake that can't shed his skin, a puppy that won't shut up, and now a psychopath emu! 8DD

After she put the emus away we did one of those human knot things. It wasn't too bad. Then they called two students out and they told us where to move and we weren't allowed to talk. But we were -stuck-. Everyone got out fine except me, the teachers, and another girl. We gave up after nearly an hour of trying to get out of that. XDDD

Tomorrow she's bringing in the potty-mouth macaw, and the day after that she's bringing a conure I think. And tonight I have to research all I can about macaws, and tomorrow about conures. So it'll be fun! 8D

 • That seems like an amazing experience.... I totally wish I had gotten the chance to something like that this summer.
 • It is such an amazing experience! I am truly grateful. We're getting exposure to so many different types of animals.
Chloe, the cockatoo is actually an endangered species of cockatoo. Only about 10,000 left. So getting to work with her is something amazing within itself!
See with Chloe, she's 12 and has 6 owners before Susan(the vet). No one wanted her. And the only reason Susan has her is because no one wanted her after the 6th owner. There's a bird refuge nearby and they wouldn't even take her. They didn't have room or something.
So it's been very hard on Chloe and she's very nervous meeting new people, but she's extremely bonded to the other vet tech assistant, Ashley.

So today she brought in Bird the Catalina Macaw.
He swears in french(says some pretty nasty things too! x_o), talks romance in spanish, etc.
But he was mad at Susan today for trimming his beak so he would only make farting and belching noises. XDDDD
But I got to hold him, which was amazing! I've have parakeets and cockatiels before, but I've never handled a macaw so it was very neat!
He never learned to fly. Although Susan gave him multiple opportunities to try it out like clipping some of his flight feathers and taking him to a big field, etc. But he just likes to waddle around or sit on her arm(occasionally shoulder. She takes him horseback riding with her and he whinnies at the horses XD) But he was a cool little dude.

Tomorrow she's bringing in Zazu the Nanday Conure. She's got all her flight feathers fully grown in so she's going to fly around the classroom and sit on people's heads, shoulders, etc. while we play apples and apples(or whatever that game is) after learning about conures. (:

 • Zazu was awesome!
She was my little buddy, she kept coming over and preening my hair and stuff. The teacher kept coming over and trying to get her to fly towards the other students but she always came back! < 333
We mostly did more social games while Zazu flew around, but it was very fun! Chloe is also starting to come out of her shell and actually made noise!

I didn't go on Friday because I was sick and I only got a chance to type this up now. Soooo. :]
