Home Ec Baby

edited August 2010 in General Discussion
I'm bringing home a baby this weekend. It's a Ready-or-Not-Tot. I'm a bit scared, considered this is my birthday weekend it will be more challenging, more like having a real baby.
o.o
but, I'm good with kids.
so bring it. >]

Anyone else had anything to do with em?

  • I do but not til the end of this semester
  • Same as Vampy.. We both have Child Development 8th period together.
  • I remember ours. The name of ours was "Baby Think It Over" or something. It was part of Health/PE freshman year. We had the option to take home the baby for a weekend (turned on 5:00 Friday night and off at like 12:00 or 1:00 Sunday night) or to write a huge like 5-page essay on stupid, random topics. The 5-pages was the minimum since you had to answer a set number of questions.

I picked the baby. I love little kids so figured it'd be fine.

It was quite the experience. Just be prepared for the fact that the baby will have absolutely no personality.

I had to go out that weekend to various places. Luckily enough, they didn't put the paperwork in my packet, so I didn't have to go shopping and fill out prices on what everything cost. Everyone was like "What a cute baby!" My family wanted to name it. I could have cared less.

Some hints/tips: (If yours records how you pick it up, be careful with that. Mine didn't)
- If it comes in a typical baby outfit (snap up the front and bottom, footies, etc.) I'd switch it. Before mine turned on I got out a baby doll outfit (actually a real baby outfit we used for dolls) that was elastic around the bottom. That way I could pull it up easily and get to the diaper.
- Always keep all supplies right with you.
- Have a system where you take one thing at a time in a particular order till you figure out what it is you need to do
- Be careful when other people are around it because if the head falls back, it records it
- Keep the baby in the seat at all times and leave it right by your bed at night so you can immediately pick it up
- When you pick up the baby at night, pick it up with one hand grabbing around the head and pulling it mostly that way if you are a heavy sleeper. I found this helpful since if I picked it up normally, half-asleep, I'd for sure let the head fall back in a rush to figure it out. Totally more stressing than a real baby (This one is sure to get controversy, but it works, and it's only a doll, not a real baby. I would never treat a kid that way, I've watched kids and babies before.)
- Some people tied a rope onto the carrier so they could rock the baby in. Or they'd set it on a rocking chair if they got tired and it wouldn't be quiet (when it just wanted attention)

Memorable moments:
- Being awake from 10:00-1:30 from disturbances as soon as I finished with what it had wanted the last time
- Crying along with the baby from being so stinkin tired
- Having all the little kids comment on what a "cute" doll it was (Oh how I was tempted to dump it)
- Being able to discuss it with friends or go out with friends and the dolls XD
- At the end of the weekend, I was rocking back and forth since I was rocking the baby all the time since it went off very frequently

It's not like a real baby, but really, it's not that bad. It's only for a weekend, so hey! I was excited to get mine, I'll just be glad when the baby is with the siblings, not me. XD

I certainly loved my outfit for her more than the other. If you can get ahold of something and know what the things yours come in are the snap-up things, an outfit like mine is helpful. I also, when I had the blanket up, left the thing higher up so the diaper was right there. Long as you keep the blanket on if you're out (I mainly did it at night so it was quicker so I could go back to sleep) it works well.

<a href="http://i34.tinypic.com/k174fm.jpg"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://i34.tinypic.com/k174fm.jpg
<a href="http://i37.tinypic.com/291lu9w.jpg"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://i37.tinypic.com/291lu9w.jpg;
  • personally, i just think those things are creepy. o.o
to imagine a baby doll sleeping next to my bed and waking up to it in the middle of the night just makes me want to scream. no offense to the people who actually like taking care of it. (x

All good things must come to an end. All endings will begin new good things.

  • I jokingly told my friends exactly what I'd do with it if I got one at my high school- I'd stick it in a dog kennel with a rope toy and a food and water dish, have it wearing a leash and collar, and bring it to school going "I hate babies, so I went with the more realistic approach and got a puppy instead."
