Dog Baby Sitting?

I know this doesn't sound or seem exciting to most people here because, they actually own dogs or have baby sat for other people's dogs before. BUT, I have never done either of those. My mom informed me last night that sometime in July we may be babysitting for two dogs, a Pug and a Boston Terrier. (my second & third favorite breed of dog btw).

SO, any dog baby sitting tips?...Or dog tips in general.

...I hope they get a long with my two cats.

  • <3 pugs

I have one myself, normally they are very calm, but may not be in this new situation. They love just to sit around and sleep. So that might be easy for you. Hopefully you dont get one of those hyper pugs XD

Make sure because in July it is so hot, you really need to watch the pug. They overheat really easy. Put fans on so that they are blowing in the room the dog is in. Also if he does get to hot take the hose and wet him down, then chase him a little to get the water off. (Some pugs also cant swim because of their bodys and then splash water into their flat noses, might want to hold the dog if going swimming or get a lifejacket just in case).

Thank you! I'll be sure to tell my mom this, it's great advise. Over here we almost always have our air conditioner going because me and my siblings are heat melodramatic. I'm so excited to see the little pug's face. Since he's bracosaphalic I assume he needs to walked using a harness...I hope the owner is providing one. xD

About him being bracosaphalic, we actually never walk our pug with a harness, always a leash and collar. We have never had any problems, and he pulls pretty hard on the leash.

Also beware when you playign with the dog, not to poke his eye by accident. Trust me, you dont even mean to do but it just happens cause they are so buggy.
  • Pugs and Boston Terriers tend to have really good personalities, so hopefully you won't have any problems. I have to agree with Lilly, but expand a little, both Pugs and Bostons can easily over heat. Basically any dog with a flat face should be monitored closely when the whether is hot. When my pekingese is hot I give her ice. She loves to play with it(it's really cute). If she is inside with me I just put the ice in a big plastic bag, squeeze all the air out, and then let her lay on it.

My only other tips would be to spend a fair amount of time talking to the owners, and write everything down so you'll remember what to do. Also, ask questions! If you have to, write questions down ahead of time so you don't forget them. Oh, and I'd suggest a check list of everything the owner gives you, so that you make sure it all gets returned.
I'm done with VP. I'll just be around until I get all my dogs and lines placed in good hands. If you want to contact me, please do so through deviantART.
  • I wouldn't worry too much, I'm sure the owner will give you guidelines and rules on how to take care of their dog. If you feel there is anything left out then ask the owner. Just remember that in the end, it's not your dog and you'll have to give it back, so don't get attached and don't teach the dog bad habits.

Happened to my brother when he was dog sitting. The dog was very quiet and never barked, we had him for six weeks and because of the way my brother played with him he was all of a sudden a HUGE barker. Not good considering the owner lived in an apartment. She was not happy about that. >.>
  • I have a pug and you should know most of them a never fully potty trained, I figured you should probably be aware of that(:

Both breeds are great so If you do end up babysitting them it should be lots of fun.... (:

Actually they are the hardest to potty train, but when done so reapeatedly, they have a very high success rate of potty training. Maybe its just your dog that havent, but I would worry chibi, as most time pugs are potty trained. They are so smart they play dumb to get anything they want, and most if not all but on or two potty train way before 1 years of ahe.
