• I think it's very nice! You've done a good job replicating the original.
I'd just suggest studying the back leg a little more.
I'm done with VP. I'll just be around until I get all my dogs and lines placed in good hands. If you want to contact me, please do so through deviantART.
  • For someone who has never drawn in their life, this is a very good start! My advice would be for you to worry less about the outline and worry more about being able to replicate the basic shapes that make up the dog, thus building on your knowledge of anatomy and helping you with the basic tools of drawing. There isn't really a magic pencil that makes someone a good artist, it's hard work!

One thing you may be interested in is to visit deviantART and do a search for "basic drawing dogs" or some derivative thereof. If you like, I can also show you the basic shapes I see in the picture of your pretty girl, so you can see what I'm talking about :)

  • Yeah, that's sort of what I did. When I printed the reference picture out, I penciled in basic shapes so I could get the porportions right, then drew them on my paper and erased the interior lines, and added curves, etc.

  • That's a pretty good start. I think you did a good job replicating the basic shape. I'm a good artist, but a bad art teacher. Let me see what advice I can offer you...

Looks like a very basic shape, but something important to know is that when your drawing don't press the pencil/pen hard to the paper to form an out line only. You should start with basic shapes like what the body parts look like. Like the head would be a simple circle, and the muzzle would be a polygon that would attach to that. I would also try to looking up dog bone structure, but only when your ready, I don't want to over complicate things and confuse you.

Keep going, that's a really good start.
