Gucci and Prada *Pregnant photos? 5/9

I went to Petsmart today to get my mice, but they said you had to be 18 to buy. D: Which is ridiculous because 3 years ago I got Bama when I was like 14 almost 15 at the same place.
However, tomorrow I am going back there with a friend of mine (who is 18) and she agreed me give her the money to buy them. xD
I already picked out the two I want -fingerscrossed- so I am hopping that they are there tomorrow. One is almost fully white but it has a little black eye patch and is fluffy. :3 The other one I didn't get a good look at but it was a broken peach/tan looking color. Gosh they are adorable. DX

Anyways, I am going to finish setting up their cage and post pictures of it in a few. :D
But, tomorrow I will def be posting pictures of the mice themselves.
AND, the title is what I am naming them - I want to name the black and white one Gucci and the broken peach/tan one Prada. :D

I'm so excited.

Here is their cage:

Tube thing and foooddd. :P

<img src="http://i40.tinypic.com/35a3amr.jpg"; alt="http://i40.tinypic.com/35a3amr.jpg"; class="bb-image" />

Whole cage.

<img src="http://i43.tinypic.com/119qzrs.jpg"; alt="http://i43.tinypic.com/119qzrs.jpg"; class="bb-image" />

  • Sounds like some very pretty colors~ Hope you get them! Love the names too.
I believe Petsmart's policy has always required an adult to purchase pet mice(I think it's different for feeders, but I'm not sure), but I know for a fact that some employees/stores let it slide occasionally. It can be annoying for responsible owners who are underage like yourself, but enforcement of the policy is important to protect the animals from many situations that could end badly.

Are you still decorating the cage? Can't tell if your pictures are from before or after "Anyways, I am going to finish setting up their cage and post pictures of it in a few. :D "
Your girlies will need a hide to cuddle in. You don't necessarily have to buy one(you can make one out of many things), but it's important so they can sleep and feel safe.

  • Thanks. :D
Yeah, it was very irritating - especially when you waste gas on an hour drive for nothing. -_______-
I'm still gonna add a few things, I heard toilet paper rolls work for hides so would using that be a good idea?
I'm gonna get them some toys and stuff online too. :D
  • I guess they can work, but in my opinion they are a bit small for 2 of them to sleep in. I always used them as chew toys for my mice.

You have lizard(s), so do you buy heat lamps? I give my rat the boxes all the time and she sleeps in it, but I buy the 2 pack 50-75 watt bulbs so it's a perfect size for her. You could also cutting up an old cereal(or other food) box.

  • Okay, I will try that. :D
Thanks.
I should be leaving to go get them in about 30 minutes or so to go get them. :DDD
  • Woo! Post pictures as soon as you can!

  • Yay~
They are so cute! Gucci is adorable!I'm glad you were able to get something fancy.
Prada kind of reminds me of the mouse I had named Momo, but she had red eyes.

  • Thanks.
I love Gucci's fur, she's so fluffy. :3

I can already tell Prada is gonna be a little trouble maker - right now she's climbing her cage like a monkey trying to escape. XD
  • Aww they are sooo cute!!

Btw LOVE the name!;)
  • Thank you. :D

New pictures:

I put them in the bucket to get a good picture. XD

<img src="http://i42.tinypic.com/3531ht2.jpg"; alt="http://i42.tinypic.com/3531ht2.jpg"; class="bb-image" />

And here they are eating, Gucci has been stashing food under the bedding. o:

<img src="http://i39.tinypic.com/2ufu96o.jpg"; alt="http://i39.tinypic.com/2ufu96o.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
  • omg! I have rats, but I loveee these. Awww, I want lots more pets. but I got too many to begin with. Are they as friendly as rats?
    paranoid.png
  • Indeed, they are. :D
Gucci is a little shy - but she's been getting used to me.
Prada loved me the first day. xD
When I click my tounge they immediatly spring up onto the second story part of their cage and come see me, Prada usually climbs right onto my hand. They are REALLY fast and hyper little critters though, can't really let them run around the house like you can a rat.
But, they are so fun to watch.
And, I plan on traning them to learn their names and maybe a few tricks - going to get some treats for them today. :D
Prada likes to suck on my fingers to. XD
How many animals do you have? o:
I want more, I'm up to 6 right now. XD
But, I am thinking about getting a few more mice when I go back to visit Florida in May.

They don't smell as bad as people think (I heard bucks do though), but my little does are really clean - last night was the first night they dumped their food bowl over. Other than that they are pretty clean. 8DD
  • Okay, so I am either paranoid...or correct. xD

Prada is looking fatter than normal (to me anyways) and Gucci I am unsure of. I've been keeping a close eye on them because Bama was pregnant when I got her there. Anyways, it might be the fact that there diet is changed from what petsmart was feeding them. And I bought these treats that are baked crusants and it said feed daily because they are basically edible chews, but I think I am going to cut them back on those because I bought them fruit flavored wood chews and they also have a ball coming in the mail because Prada likes to explore. 8D
Anyways, back to the fatness, I am just hoping she's not pregnant. DX

I will post pictures this weekend.
  • I'm surprised you're not bothered by/getting any smell, but maybe it's because you only have 2. My 5 girls used to stink. I eventually bought special odor products, and started using one of those pots you put scented oil in so the room would smell decent.

Males are horrible when it comes to odor. I had feeders for a monitor, and they would make a horrendous smell in 1 day.

My best guess is that she is not pregnant. She's probably a youngster that's growing, and the new diet is probably adding on "pounds" Almost all of my girlies gained a TON(like doubled in size!) of weight within the first 2 weeks of coming home. Just keep an eye on her, and if she really does seem pregnant you can have a vet confirm it. Most of the time it's really cheap(or free) and done by touch/sight alone.

  • It doesn't smell until it's time to change their bedding. XD
Other than that they keep themselves clean and the odor is very limited.
She's also been very skittish the past two days, she won't come to me like normally when I first got her and Gucci has come out of her shell and she is SO sweet<3 Unlike Prada, who is a little devil. XD
The lady at petsmart told me that they where about 4-5 months old, I suspect they are younger so it could just be weight gain.

Would it be okay to use baby wipes to clean off the plastic parts and wire in their cage? They seem to poop on the second story a lot and I'd figure baby wipes would eliminate the odor plus clean off the mess or would it be better to just use a warm wash cloth?
  • I'm not sure, but I imagine they are okay. You could wipe the area down with water after; just to be safe.

I used to buy <a href="http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2753296"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">small animal cage cleaner, and I feel it really worked. Worth the investment since it lasts a long time when only cleaning up after mice. I like it so much I use it to wipe down the glass and tile in the lizard cages. It makes things smell fresh.

Oh okay, I'll try some of that. :D

And another question. XD
Prada has been biting Gucci a lot and I know it hurts Gucci because she squeals but she won't bite Prada back. Should I seperate them for a little bit or let them settle the argument themselves?
I read to seperate them but in other cases let them work it out.
  • If they are doing it a lot(chasing each other for hours at a time), or someone starts bleeding, then you should separate them. If it's only lasting a few seconds, and it's not brutal then it's normal.
I second the cleaner, I use it for my hammy's cage. You can also spray it on the bedding before you put them back in the cage because it also serves as a 'deodorizer' of sorts.

And they are ADORABLE! I'm jealous. :3

  • @Sushi-They do it occasionally, it's only happened the pass two days and it's just a nip if Gucci gets in Prada's way. But, if it gets worse I will have to seperate them.

@Oats-Thankies. :3

I have pictures that I will upload tomorrow, the internet is only working at my boyfriends house and not at my grandma's and I only have the pictures on my computer. Prada is looking like she's going to have a small litter IF she is pregnant.
  • Prada:

Although these pictures do her no justice, she looks chubbier in person. But, I noticed that in most of the pictures I took she has a bump on her left side that is quite noticeable.

<img src="http://i43.tinypic.com/344b9kg.jpg"; alt="http://i43.tinypic.com/344b9kg.jpg"; class="bb-image" />

<img src="http://i42.tinypic.com/ok6fs.jpg"; alt="http://i42.tinypic.com/ok6fs.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
  • Well I dont have mice.... But I googled it! xD. She does looks a bit pregnant to me. I would check at the pet store she came from to see if they seperate the male mice from the females.

So to hopefully give you some what of an answer....
<a href="http://www.fancymice.info/pregnantornot.htm"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://www.fancymice.info/pregnantornot.htm

<a href="http://en.allexperts.com/q/Mice-3824/2009/3/really-pregnant.htm"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://en.allexperts.com/q/Mice-3824/20 ... egnant.htm

<a href="http://www.hiiret.fi/eng/breeding/essentials3.html"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://www.hiiret.fi/eng/breeding/essentials3.html;
  • I read those sights before I got my mice actually. XD

Here is picture I took of her last night:

<a href="http://i43.tinypic.com/fm2s3.jpg"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://i43.tinypic.com/fm2s3.jpg;
  • The lump is concerning if it is indeed a lump and not just a bad photo angle, but from the pictures it's still to hard to tell if she is pregnant. Can you get a photo of her stomach?

Here are some photos of the girls I had, and none of them were ever pregnant(though with how fast they gained weight I had expected it more than once while I owned mice). If you lower stress, and provide a good diet, then they can pack on the pounds very fast.
<a href="http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r26/PrinceSushi/Pets/000_3479.png"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r26/PrinceSushi/Pets/000_3479.png
<a href="http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r26/PrinceSushi/Pets/000_3465.png"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r26/PrinceSushi/Pets/000_3465.png
<a href="http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r26/PrinceSushi/Pets/100_6786.png"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r26/PrinceSushi/Pets/100_6786.png
<a href="http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r26/PrinceSushi/Pets/000_1212-1.png"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r26/PrinceSushi/Pets/000_1212-1.png

My suggestion would be a vet visit to find out if the weight gain is normal, a pregnancy, or something internal.

  • Interesting, I have yet to find a vet that specializes in exotics here or even works/worked with mice.

I was also told on another forum that it could be weight gain, and that because she is recessive yellow that she could carry the brindle gene and they are apparently known for weight gain.
So, if she doesn't have any babies within the next week I'll be in the clear.

I've never heard that, but it might explain why the girls I posted were fat. My 2 black and whites, and my 1 silver and white never got chubby, but all my yellows were. Didn't even think that it was just my yellows until now.

That's very interesting~
