Kirby is not a case of abuse - GET. OVER. IT. No one on here has MENTIONED that my chicken was a case of abuse, but everyone else on different sites clam that JUST because he is pink he's abused....really? I've said who knows how many times that the dye. is. harmless. If he was abused he wouldn't be fat and developing, I wouldn't talk about him or show my love for him. What I do with MY time, money, and love is MY business. If you have a problem with it, don't comment or look at it. Sorry, I needed to get this off my chest. -____-

I think its cute. I never thought anything of it because I know you're smart enough to use a safe dye on your animals. Just ignore them. Its not like they're gonna call the animal cops. And even if they did they wouldnt take him away because hes perfectly fine :]

awwww i don't see how it's abuse. You aren't harming it, and i know you care about animals too much to even hurt them. Plus people dye their dogs coat all the time too, and you don't hear about it. well i don't hear people complaining about it or calling it abuse. Plus, kirby looks cute in pink.

@Syb: I bought him pink. xD But, the guy said it was done with organic materials of some sort...and even dye injected into eggs is harmless from what I know. The only way an animal cop would come and investigate is if it was a case of abuse/neglect...not only that, dying chicks colors isn't illegal in Alabama. The majority of cats/dogs here live there lives outside 24/7 and seem to live longer than what an inside dog would - but people consider an outside dog that is provided with food, water, shelter, etc. abuse...when here it's a normal thing. @Lyc: That reminds me, my friend colors her cats and dogs with magic markers. xD I have no idea why, but the animals don't seem to care.

That's what I was thinking! Really, he will grow out of the dye anyway. i guess maybe they're thinking of ages ago when they used to dip the poor little critters in vats of dyeand they wouldn't around their eyes because it would make them go blind? My grandmother used to tell me about stuff like that. But of course things are safer now.

He's already getting the majority of his white feathers on his wings. Kirby has pink eye lashes. XD I don't know what kind of dye they used back in the day but Kirbs can see perfectly fine. I don't think it's the fact that they are thinking back in the day - it's the fact that they see something abnormal and see it as abuse. People should really do their homework and research before they speak. Scientist have been using the injection method for a while now.

I haven't said anything against it to you, or on VP, but I am against dying chicks. The methods and dyes used to dye chicks/ducklings use to be dangerous, but I believe they just use organic food coloring now. However, the dye is not the big problem, it's why they are dyed that's the problem. A lot of the Easter chicks/ducklings are bought, given to children as toys, and die 2 weeks later from bad care. After all, they aren't dyed for farmers or enthusiasts, they are dyed to attract children. Farmers and enthusiasts would probably prefer to buy healthy stock chickens of a specific breed. Buying dyed chicks/ducklings creates demand, which supports the abuse, which is why it is illegal to sell them is some areas. My aunt and her friend ran a feed store and sold these guys every year. I watch probably 95% of them go to children, with no information on care, and 100% sold without any care products. They were sold as toys for profit, with no regards as to whether or not the buyers intended to care for it. Specifically, you are not abusing the chicken; you could actually consider it rescuing in a sense. You're not an abuser, and no one has the rights to say that to you. Now, the chick probably isn't considered "abused" in your area, but he was definitely put on a path that could have put him in an abusive situation if you had not bought him. My 2 cents.

I agree with the reason on "why" they dye them is wrong, personally I don't care if they are dyed - so long as the buyers know how to care for them. I saw a lot of adults buying them. xD Plus, the people who run our feed store help when others buy a chick - from what I know. I planned on getting a chick for a while now and I so happened to come across these guys. And you have to remember, I'm in Alabama the majority of the people here are farmers, or the children grew up on farms or around them. xD (at least in my area).

That is true, people have to be adept enough to handle them. I also come from what was originally a farming area. Unfortunately, it is now being industrialized

Just read the first post but.... at least they didn't use spray paint. In my 4H poultry club last year, there was a theme that you had to decorate your pen as something. Anyhow, one group make a space themed pen. They spray painted their chicks lime green. In my eyes... that was cruel.

Someone said this today and it made me happy.

"I don't understand why people have such a problem with this. Really, it's not even a big deal. Who cares what you do to your pet as long as you're not hurting it? And we eat chickens anyways, so the heartfelt "OMG" is just a bunch of bull. Would someone be pissed if they were going to eat the damn thing? No, so I see no reason why anyone would call this abuse, or cruelty. CLEARLY, she's okay now, and there is no longer a dying process, so why would it matter now?"
