Does anyone else watch that on animal planet? I love that show, I don't have a dog so I have to try out Victoria's tricks on my cats. It's a really great show, seriously, that lady is awesome.

I like watching the dogs learn.
xD It's an okay show, but I prefer Cesar Milan's the Dog Whisperer on Discovery Channel.

Plus, Victoria's voice grates on my nerves. xD But she does have so good points.
I watched those videos about a week ago for the first time and I'm so happy my dog doesn't do any of the stunts the dogs on the show pulled off XD

My favourite has to be Stains th Australian Shepherd. The way he stares at those cup cakes makes me go hungry too lol

I don't mind her voice so much, xDD Some females with an english accent tend to whine every word, especially the word "whatever" they say "Whhu-EEvVaa" xDDD Cesar Milan is really good too! He's the Dog weespperrer. xDDD He's really good with dogs and people. c:

Haha! I adore that episode! I love that dog, it's completley cross eyed at the cupcakes, I wonder what was going through that doggy's noggin. xDD I abosultley loved that.
I like both, but haven't watched them in awhile. I personally think Victoria is so pretty, and patient, but I really love Cesar's courage. Watching Cesar is like watching those people that live with bears, lions, wolves, etc.

That episode was too cute and funny. I think my pom has a similar face to Stains, so whenever I look at him I always think about that episode.
I'm done with VP. I'll just be around until I get all my dogs and lines placed in good hands. If you want to contact me, please do so through deviantART.

I completley agree! I love, love, love Victoria's fashion sence and the way she wears make up! She's also well dressed, even when those expenisive boots of hers get nipped at by dogs. xDD And Cesar, he's so nice! He has soooo man dogs as well. xD
The Dog Whisperer is on on Fridays at like 9? I think. xD we used to watch it every week, but then they started playing reruns like crazy.

I cant stand Stillwell. But, I won't get into that xD
All good things must come to an end. All endings will begin new good things.
I think The Dog Whisperer is on the National Geographic Channel. His methods are definatly different then Victoria's-In my opinion, they both work and they are both great trainers.
I've watched all of the first, second, and sixth seasons, and never seen him actually hit a dog. ._.

I was watching it on TV one day, I don't know what episode it was but he was being rough with it. And while some dogs need a firm hand, hitting them isn't the right way to go about things. I will figure out what episode it was.

EDIT: And I also heard that he chased a dog with a stick or something? Just to say he was alpha, but I heard in the older episodes he tries playing the alpha role and isn't as humane as he is in the newer episodes.
Like I said, I've never seen an episode where he's hit a dog, even when the dog was biting him- and I'm talking big mastiff/lab crosses, not small dogs.

He's chased dogs with rackets, but not in the way you're thinking. He uses rackets, chairs, waste baskets, etc as buffers to make sure some of the more aggressive dogs can't get to him. He also uses sticks, rolled up newspapers, etc as an extension of his own arm, to make sure they don't bite his hand up too badly. He doesn't chase them with the intentions of hitting them, trust me.

EDIT:
And by chased, it wasn't a full out run or anything. He followed them around to get them into a corner so he could put a lead on them, or to show them that he was taking their yard over, so they wouldn't be as protective or territorial over it.

He doesn't hit them...he uses his hand like a dog would use his mouth to correct another dog, since obviously he can't bite the dog himself.
Just because you haven't seen him hit a dog doesn't mean it didn't happen, Victoria deals with aggressive dogs and yet her techniques include mainly praise, nothing dominant. And the dogs still learn with her techniques who the dominant one is.

I will give you links to reports and sources as to how he has harmed dogs, not only physically but mentally as well. PM me if you want to see them/

Probably...they just have two different approaches. I watch both shows(: Victoria approaches a dog as a human would/should approach a dog. Cesar approaches the dogs as if he were a dog as well (as a pack, so to speak), he gets down to their level while Victoria takes it from a human owner point. If that makes sense?
Yes, I understand his techniques. But I don't agree with him. Dogs are domesticated animals not some wild bear. Did you see the episode where he forced the dog onto the ground in order to show dominance? Not to mention when people start trying Ceaser's techniques by themselves it can lead to even worse situations because they are not professional. I only believe in positive reinforcement. Because it usually always works, and if you give a dog something it likes (treat, toy, etc.) it's going to think "since I did this I get this" and it's going to want to keep doing it, dogs love to please humans. And pushing a dog to the ground into a submissive form is only going to stress the dog.
I also watched a documentary on wolves vs. dogs and the humans had two cups and would not let the dogs watch and put the treat in one cup, then they brought the dog into the room and the human pointed to the cup the treat was in and the dog went strait to it, they did several more test and the dogs ALWAYS looked to the human for guidance while the wolves wanted to figure it out for itself. They even tried a few puppies that where 8 weeks old and even the puppies looked to the humans.
Just because you don't see Victoria hit a dog, doesn't mean she doesn't do it.
Same logic applied.

I guess it's just personal preference. I, and every dog trainer I've met or spoken to, prefer Cesar's methods to Victoria's methods.

Her techniques are different from Ceasers, like I said she uses positive reinforcement.
I've watched basically all her shows and she's ONLY used positive reinforcement, while only watching a few of "The Dog Whisper" he has used barbaric techniques, I would never chase a dog with a stick/racket or whatever or force one in a submissive form. That's funny, I know a lot of people who dislike his training. He has also changed up his techniques in the newer episodes because his audience did not like how he treated the dogs.
I myself, am majoring in animal behavior and once I graduate I will never use what he does, because I don't need to be forceful to a dog to get my point across, when you use the "alpha" technique dogs are more prone to be fearful or stressed.
I'm trying my hardest not to berate someone else's opinions. As I stated before, it's a matter of personal preference. You don't like Cesar, okay, that's fine. Don't use his methods. If you find his methods barbaric, okay, that's fine. Don't use his methods.
This was originally a friendly post about 'It's Me or the Dog'. Let's not get it locked or deleted over an argument about dog trainers.

I've only seen this show a couple times, but I like it. I saw that Aussie! His expression was priceless! xD
Cesar Milan and Victoria Stillwell both have very different methods in training dogs. Victoria doesn't believe in using physical methods, while Cesar uses them often. It doesn't nessarilly mean Cesar's methods are wrong. I have never seen him actually hit a dog, like as in "Don't do that!" *Slap.* He does use a firm touch or tap to correct dogs and show them he is dominant.

Like said before, Cesar acts like a dominant dog in a pack would. I agree, domesitic dogs are not wolves, but that doesn't mean they don't have any of those instincts. While we may see Cesar's methods as cruel, in the dog world, they're just natural. However, I do believe that Cesar's methods are a bit rough at times, but I won't get into that.

One example of how their methods differ: Say a dog has a barking problem. In one episode of It's Me or the Dog, Victoria waited for the dog to stop barking and after a few seconds of silence, rewarded the pup with a toy. It took a while for the dog to figure it out, but once he did, he began to learn that barking got him nowhere. However Cesar would firmly tap the dog and make one of those "Shh!" noises when it barked. Therefore, Cesar acts like a memeber of the pack, correcting dogs when they do wrong and acting like the leader, while Victoria praises them for doing something correct.

I agree and disagree with some things in both methods.
