Constructive Criticism

Here's an example of something I've recently done: <a href="http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2010/048/e/8/Dreisaiah_Stormy_Field_by_reinafawn.png"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2010/ ... nafawn.png

Please only post one graphic per turn. If it's not aesthetically pleasing in any sort of way then you're basically defeating the purpose.

Start sendin them in!!

 • lovefrompaige

Mmmmm, cuddly, warm, soft Caity graphic. I always love the softness and lack of contrast in your banners; it gives it a nice, fuzzy feelin, and is unique to you! I also love the color palette you've used. The tans, browns, greys, and purples all flow really nicely together and compliment each other. The stars and swivels make it dreamy too.

The only thing I notice right off the bat is the thing up by the Greyhound's head... is that lace on a pillow or something? It's a little distracting and doesn't really need to be there. Try cloning it out. It's not that big of a deal, but yeah. Also, try downloading a custom font. Is that Felix Titling? I like it too, but a softer and bolder font may work better. If the image was black and white with more contrast, Felix Titling may fit the image. Other than that, I love it. :)

Shadow Apocalypse

Good job on cutting out the dog! You're better than most professional designers I've seen that can cut dogs out. Remember, when making a graphic, the whole point is to make the dog look like it was originally there. Since a dog is probably not going to be 2 times the size of colorful paper, this background is inappropriate. Perhaps find an apocalypse picture that you can use. It will also be consistent with your username.

If you decide to keep the background, at least put a shadow underneath the dog by taking your paintbrush, setting it to about 50 opacity, change the thickness, rotate a little sideways, and make it black. Eyeball it to make sure it looks right. Keeping an eye on the light source of the background can make all the difference when putting in shadows.

As for the text, try downloading a custom font from <a href="http://www.dafont.com"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">www.dafont.com. Using Times New Roman just shows that you didn't put a lot of thought into how the text would compliment the rest of the banner. The placment is good because that area is darker than the rest of the background and therefore the text can be read and seen easier.

Try making the (c) Silverthorn smaller. It's overlapping the dog's foot and that's a big no-no. Put it in the very corner in a pixel-type font or a very small text size, like Arial 7px. Setting your eraser to 40 opacity and clicking over the text once or twice to lower its opacity is another trick I like to use. If someone really wants to know who made the banner they can just look off to the side and see. It doesn't have to be giant.

:) Keep up the good work. Graphic making takes practice and time. It's creative but its also mathematical because everything within the graphic has to play together.

.clozobozo.

Awww! I love it! You blended the pictures together VERY well, noteably the shepherd and the Lab. The pictures you used give a doggy-like emotion to the graphic; the tongue, the stick in the mouth with the water splashing around. It's definitely aesthetically pleasing. The colors you used compliment each other very well. The grungy brushes you used also give the graphic more substance and character.

Your placement of text is also very good. Maybe lower the saturation of the rainbow stroke a little bit so it's closer to the rest of the picture and doesn't give the audience a feeling of wanting some Sherbet. (At least that's what I thought of.) The white outer glow really helps make the text stand out. The border also gives more character as it's not the same width all the way around! Keep this up and your bank will be overflowing.

CoasterCannons

Hey, I really enjoy this. The baby colors and the brightness and the hearts all give it a sweet, feminine, captivating atmosphere. I love the hearts brushes and the swirly things on the side. I will say that I'm not a big fan of the lines over the Lab's head. The grungy stuff on his leg looks like he stepped in ..... bird poo? Remember, when using brushes, you'll wanna mostly stay away from the center(s) of focus. You can put the brushes behind them if they're noticeable enough though.

I wish you'd have changed the saturation level of the Lab to maybe -40 or so, just leaving a little bit of color, and then change the colors of it, or perhaps just changed the colors of the eyes to a muted brown. It's not as noticeable in the Aussie though (or at least I think that's an Aussie..the one on the side) because its eyes are a lighter brown.

As for the text, I think that Jellyka font could have worked if there were more room for it. I don't often recommend using that font for a subtext. It makes the whole image a bit too busy. Freebooter is a great font that might work better in here as the main text, and then maybe a thicker, cute font for the subtext. It's your choice though. I usually stay away from that font unless I have a simple background and can pull it off by using a busy and extravagant font type.

:)

 • I don't know if you are doing these, but here is a small one.
<img src="http://i41.tinypic.com/29dbspc.png"; alt="http://i41.tinypic.com/29dbspc.png"; class="bb-image" />

If not there's this one.

<img src="http://i44.tinypic.com/21e0ygj.png"; alt="http://i44.tinypic.com/21e0ygj.png"; class="bb-image" />

 • I'm sure there's several things that I could work on:

<img src="http://i39.tinypic.com/eqpkiq.jpg"; alt="http://i39.tinypic.com/eqpkiq.jpg"; class="bb-image" />

Thanks so much for doing this!
 • I personally highly enjoy this one. I always love sharp banners with tons of color. I think it's really visually pleasing overall. The only things that are slightly off are placement of the hamsters. Maybe the one on the right could be over a little more so it's not right under the "ery". I like the cute writing though. The white stroke makes it easier to read that's for sure!

There isn't really much else. It's hard to critique someone who's better than I am. :oops:
