My dog has a pink/red spot on his leg? HELP.

edited January 2010 in General Discussion
I was brushing his fur and petting him and I noticed he was biting his leg and itching at it...hard. So, I took a look at it and it was like BRIGHT pink/red.
I was like "Oh my gosh, MOM! Izzy's leg is all pinkish." She ignored me, as usual. xD (iloveyou, momxP)
I repeated myself, adding on an extra MOM in the beginning. She noticed me (xDD) and said "Wuhh?" but she didn't walk over.
I carefully picked him up and brought him over to her. She gasped and said "Go get some neosporin and a bandage we got from the hospital."
I got the stuff and borught it to her. She told me to go get a sock... I did.
xD Then, she told me to put the neosporin on his leg and wrap the bandage carefully around his injured leg, then put the sock over it so he won't bite at it anymore.
I did all that.
And. Yeah. [:

Any idea what this is?
Any tips?
I'll post pictures later when I have a turn on the other REAL computer. xD (I'm on the laptop now.)

HELP MY BABY BOYY!
):

 • Sounds like fleas... But anyway the spot is from the biting/etc, it likely started as a tiny flea bite (and yes, I know from experience)... Also, neosporin isn't made for dogs, and probably shouldn't be used on them.

But no worries about the itchy/chewing... Just get some frontline, advantage, or some other vet-provided flea medication (never biospot or ANYTHING by hartz).

 • Could be allergies too.

My one dog has horrible allergies when the weather changes at all. We use some kind of smelly stuff to rub over it, and our vet gave us a powder spray.. seems to make her stop itching anyway.

Coulda just been an irritated spot too. If it's fleas, there will be more than one spot the dog is going to itch (and its usually on their back that you notice it first)

I'd just make sure he's not chewing it and keep checking on it just in case it doesnt go away for some reason.

 • Prolly either fleas or a skin infection, especially during winter. Take him to the vet, asap. You will need to get him treated for whatever he does have. Go to petsmart and get Apple Bitter spray for dogs and put it on the spot. Sometimes huskies enjoy the taste of the apple bitter, but most don't. He won't bite the spot anymore. Good luck.
