Stereograms (very fun)

So I don't know if any of you are familiar with stereograms but they are just really really cool. I came across them when I was in elementary school. My teacher had a book of them and it took me forever to get the hang of them. Anyways, I thought I would share. Now what is a stereogram? This is

Answer: Actually when I first looked at this, it looks like rings but a second time, it looks like scribbles xD Its basically an optical illusion. It takes awhile to get used to them but after awhile you should start to see something look almost 3D. Some people try to stare at it with their eyes crossed and once they start to the the picture a little, they uncross their eyes. What I do is look at it lazily and really unfocused. Eventually it comes into view and I'm able to see it. Don't worry if you dont see it right away. When I first saw the book, I tried for over 30min to see something and finally I did. After you get the first one, it gets much easier. ROFL! Its really hard at first. I haven't done these in awhile so when I went to look it took me around 5min of staring. And I can't do it with my eyes crossed. I just sorta unfocus xD Darn I hope someone else can see these!

I can't cross my eyes if my life depends on, so I was just looking at it rofl Is there a specific way to try and see the pictures? Maybe you should trace the dinosaur in the second one so I can see it :P

I used to be able to make the image go both ways, as in pop both in and out.. but idk if i still can xD -tries-

Er.. I just tried tracing it and its really hard. On top of me not being the best tracer, the background of the dinosaur falls away and makes it 5x more difficult to trace xD. Its a pretty pathetic result. I dont think the lines would help anyways. If you can't see without the lines, having the lines won't make a difference. Theres no specific way to see it.. Like I said, most people try crossing their eyes. Since crossing my eyes give me a headache, I found just staring at it work. But I stare at it so its very unfocused and the parts can drop away. And YAYA Im not the only person! *highfives clozo* I wish I could find the telephone one. Its my favorite but I can't seem to find it anymore.

Those are good ones, I could see them all. And yeah, I can see it still with blinking and moving the screen around etc. These keep me so entertained xD

I've never heard the crossing of eyes to view them. For me, it's forcing my eyes to go out of focus and ever so slowly returning to focus. But you can't focus on any one part of the picture until whatever it is becomes apparent. Then I can actually look at it.

There are moving ones too. Look up stereograms on google. I don't want to add any more pics to this thread, since it took five minutes to load just those. They're really cool. My gramma has a book of em.

Moving ones I don't advise on looking at if your someone who get's headaches from looking at still ones :P They look cool though, harder to focus though lmao. Also Kaley's last one I could not figuire out o.O Saw the shape and all that just can't make out what it is xD And I don't want to cheat :P

I couldnt see them the first few times, but i looked up how to do it on google, and now I can see them all xD Its so weird! What I do is place my face right next to the screen and unfocus my eyes, whilst observing the top right corner, but not looking straight at it (my eyes are pointing to the center of the image) slowly I move my face away untill I can see definitions of 3D shapes, and I carry on untill ive reached the maximum level that they become clear. Then I look directly at the image, and see what it is clearly and immediatly =D (but not unfocusing my eyes xD) it says it also helps if you arent wearing contacts/glasses. I want to ask you people who can see it a question :P Is what you see, going inwards? or coming out towards you? When i look (crossing eyes) it is indented :P but I used to be able to make it come out as well. I was just trying that again with woodpecker's image and I got it

For woodpeckers, the butterfly is sticking out against the background. The image as a whole though, looks like its going back.
