;D My dog doesn't really get along BETTER with males. She just has a hard time with MOODY females. Which is understandable. There's a few females she loves - and that's because they're not snarling or grumbling at her whenever she goes near them. Males tend to be more mellow around her which would explain why she appears to get along better with them. But there's a few males she doesn't like because they bark and growl at her.

My female is harder to train, yep. Which I have absolutely no problem with as long as she's being submissive and ATTEMPTING to obey. And she tries. Often she doesn't exactly understand what I'm asking of her (she's mildly stupid xD) but I'd say 80% of the time she listens to me.

My male has always been submissive and easier(ish) to train, but he has a wandering mind. And to get out of listening, he'll often start scratching his ears or sneezing so I'll leave him alone. xD (He's a brat.)

We decided that we'll take Sage (my best friend's puppy) because it's an awesome opportunity that we need to take advantage of before we miss out on a great dog. She's an easy going female as far as her age can reveal... she has to be about 3-4 months now. Still young - and very trainable. xD She knows sit already.
For the record, you're more likely to have viscious female-female fights than you are male-male, and hardly any male-female. Of course, these are just trends, but you're probably better off with just one female dog around.

I have one of each right now, and I find different things about them to be beneficial, my female is certainly more polite, but the male is smarter (but not always motivated )

good luck!
Actually, males and females do fight.
My older female poodle, will growl and show her teeth to the males around here, but if it's not a life or death situation I don't bother with it becuase dogs think in pack form and most of the time when dogs fight in a home with many dogs it is only to show pack domanace.

Why don't you take your dog to get the pup?
-if you go the breeder-
Let her choose a pup.
I know it sounds silly, but it works.
Or another option would be to let her meet the pup outside the home,
take her and the new pup for a walk so they get to know each other.
When you bring a new dog into your dogs teritory there is going to be conflict. ;3
My female isn't well-socialized. I could never take her anywhere where there were too many dogs at once. She'd get anxious. And she can be really aggressive if a dog just comes up to her. She'll actually attack it. But, if properly introduced and not provoked (meaning the dog growls aggressively or attacks her) she's completely well-behaved.

Sayge gets along great with Molly. She likes to lick her face until Molly gets fed up and walks away. xD She can't walk well on a leash yet. Rather then trying to drag me, she tends to pull to the side of me so she can roll in/sniff grass. She's learning, though. Max guards her with his life (pretty much) and doesn't let anyone he doesn't trust near her (unless I discipline him and tell him to leave so someone can pet Sayge xD). She's very social when it comes to people - everyone is her friend. And when it comes to dogs (big dogs) she has a little bit of a shy issue. She cowers down with her tail between her legs and tries to climb into my arms. I push her away lightly and don't pick her up so she knows that I'm not going to nurse her fear. Once she knows the dog she's just as happy-go-lucky as she normally is. She is extremely quiet. Only barks when someone knocks or she sees another dog - and even then she only barks 1-3 times, then I scold her and she grumbles a bit. xD

We took her to the pet store and everyone looooved her. She was all over people, licking and wagging her tail at them. And she was fine when she saw a Chihuahua walk by her. No barks or grumbling. So obviously littler dogs are on her good side. xD Big dogs... not so much. But we'll definitely work on that. So far, she's very responsive when I teach her. She knows come and already knows how to fetch teddy bears and tennis balls.

At the pet store I bought her a new harness (fits her perfectly) and a tag with her name and our phone number on it. Plus I got a razor specialized for cutting off the hair above her eyes so she can see. xD (She's got long hair because her mom is a Shih-Tzu/Cocker Spaniel and her dad is a Shih-Tzu/Poodle... she looks like all of the breeds.)

I shall post photos soon. As soon as I get off my lazy butt and hook up the camera to the computer. xD
