This post used to be about when my guppy would have babies. So ignore responces to that. Anyways, Now I have 1 guppy fry, and from what I know, that's all there is. So, he was born about a week ago. Why is he suddenly less active than before???? NVM, my darling buppy (it's what I call a baby guppy) passed away in a horrible tank cleaning accident. My only one, and he was actually going to be named buppy.... And then I was going to give it to my cousin for her tank.

it depends on when they spawned. I never breed guppies before only bettas. But I know liverbears such as guppies can have babies ever few weeks/days even when they are separated from the male

It's about every month, yes. I got her about a month ago, so I don't know when she spawned. I also know they can hold sperm for 3 months, so it could be a random guppy. I am only saving a few, preferably males, and feeding the rest. It seems cruel, but it's better than trying to keep 60 and losing 50 in the process slowly, then losing 40 quickly.

I used to breed guppies.... and feed the to my Oscars >D I used to feel mean when I could see the flashy tail in the fishy's mouth but i was like, cheaper than buying goldfish every two weeks. But, yah. I also just bred them to toy around with the colors. I had a beautimus blue & purple split tail with a black dot right before his actual tail, he was awesome. Until I got rid of all my fish and fed him to my oscars before I gave them away. :P I would buy some aquatic plants [real or fake] that the babies cant get to. OR buy a sort of wire mesh thing [cloth mesh? idk they have special tank stuff that include it for breeding fish] that has small enough holes that the babies can get through, but not the mom. You'll probably survive with maybe 5-6 baby guppies at the end. Mine never grew very fast, I'd have to wait about two/three months before they were decent sized. So either buy special food, or be willing to wait awhile :] As for keeping them, I would just keep whatever stayed alive. O_O Keep more females than males and feed the males to your fish if your tank become slightly overpopulated. That is, unless you're short on males. I kept a 3 females to every 1 male ratio. But you can chop that down to about 2 femmes per 1 male, if you'd like. And, just a note. I could never catch my guppies during birth. They always seemed to like, do it when i wasnt watching. Just remember that the momma will eat some fry too and that some will be dead the minute they come out, so you'll have to clean whatever tank/space you'll leave her in. There's gonna be all this weird crap all over the place and sadly, the fish wont eat it

Well, I wasn't planning on keeping any really. Just use them for food, friends (give them to my friends who keep fish), and well, minimal profit. If I raise them for a few months, I can sell them to my pet store for about $20, they take about 60 fry for $20, but older is better. I'll get a job there next year...

Well, I took the pic today, bought a breeder, and now have 1 guppy that escaped, waiting on the others. I caught him and moved him (or her?) to an escape-proof bowl.

uuh... i had a fish escape once.. i had a female beta and she literally jumped out of the bowl... i didnt know where she went and i was like.. mom... my fish disappeared..O-O.. i found her the next day... in my shoe.. all dried out and skeletonized *shivers*

I had pocasamus that excaped once while we wern't home, found him when we got home on the floor. their bottom dwellers, so we tried to revive him by putting him in the water again for 10 minutes, but he was long gone...

No, one of the babies escaped the breeder through a slot into the big, dangerous world of the big fish tank featuring daddy and bff betta! I took him out and put him in a bowl, and he's still alone. Why do i only have 1 baby?????

most likely, before the female is going to have her babies, there will be a big black spot near her.. o.o; butt? xD and she will look like she is about to pop.. xD well.. at least, thats what heppens.. o.o; happened? with my female guppies ;]

so will I most likely get them sometime today, or could it be, like a week. It would be really cool if they were born tomorrow, because then it would be Canada day. I sadly must give them away, but hopefully not far. I have a friend who could take them, plus a cousin, or maybe the nearby pet store. I', glad it's summer, so I can feed the babies 5 times per day.

o_O; why would you have to give them away? not ALL of them will survive.. out of the babies i had.. i normally got 8-10 babies, and only had 5 total survive from baby to adult[only 5 from the like.. 6 batches i had total].. has she even had 1 baby yet?

I have to give them away, because my tank is only 5 gallons. 1 betta plus guppies equals full house! But i'm breeding for friends and a little mulah. She has had 1 baby. That's all, in the past 16 hours.
