Latest Rabbit Creation! [Image Heavy]

Well, now that it's warm and lovely out, the bunnies need more fresh air. Since I have no real skills in woodwork/metalwork/or any skills involving outdoor work at all [xD], I decided to work with only thin wood and net-plactic-stuff. It worked pretty well, [and before you all scold me for using plastic on a rabbit-contraption, let me explain!], and the rabbits can't get out... unless they chew their way out of their little plastic-mesh-playpen. Considering the only time they'll be in there is when I'm watching them or outside, it will be no problem. Neither of them are extremely big chewers, and when they are, they chew wood. Which is fine because they can chew on the wood all they like--it can be replaced, removed, etc.

It's fairly flexible (and I mean in a 'if it gets broken, I can totally fix it' way).

I put it in a corner beside the house so they can a) be watched easily from the giant window in the living room, and b) be in a spot where nothing was really meant to go there anyways xP

They love it! Especially energetic, mini Milo who is always itching to get out of his cage and exploring the world around him xD

I've posted pictures. Brace yourself to look at the most-worked-on rabbit contraption EVER! [As if... but still, brace yourself.]

<img src="http://i41.tinypic.com/vynxcp.jpg"; alt="http://i41.tinypic.com/vynxcp.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
The deck is on the right side, and the giant window (not seen) is on the left where I can watch them ;D Please ignore the rude dog who wanted to be in the photo, he's too high on himself.

<img src="http://i44.tinypic.com/2ccuyxi.jpg"; alt="http://i44.tinypic.com/2ccuyxi.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
Fresh food, cold water, and a clean litterbox for the babies (:

<img src="http://i42.tinypic.com/2lwp468.jpg"; alt="http://i42.tinypic.com/2lwp468.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
This is like the door to get in/out of for the rabbits mommies. I appreciate it because I am much too short to step over the stupid thing! xD It just slides out from behind the stick--easy as that. And the rabbits can't get out through it, either (unless they're the size of beetles, which they are not).

<img src="http://i44.tinypic.com/nppan8.jpg"; alt="http://i44.tinypic.com/nppan8.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
This is the "rocky corner" as I like to call it. We have a hose-wrap-around thing in the way, so I had to fold the plastic-netting stuff under it and then on the other side, for supreme safety, I piled a bunch of rather medium-sized rocks on the other side.

<img src="http://i40.tinypic.com/eb9fdw.jpg"; alt="http://i40.tinypic.com/eb9fdw.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
The netting stuff seemed to be a problem when it came to the ground and the rabbits being able to go underneath it. I found the solution by making sure the netting was too long (therefore it curves into the cage) and added dirt in front of it. Even if the rabbits remove the dirt, they can't get under.

<img src="http://i44.tinypic.com/wlazb8.jpg"; alt="http://i44.tinypic.com/wlazb8.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
Well, I saw the cracks under the deck as a problem because the rabbits may try and dig beneath it and, without the deck having a sort of net or anything to restrict the animals from getting underneath it, the rabbits would be long gone. After looking underneath the deck, trying to figure out a place to put a piece of wood to block the crack off, I realized that there's a solid cement wall on the other side, deep in the dirt. So, that problem was never really a problem, little did I know. So... all fixed! xD

<img src="http://i40.tinypic.com/4fv6on.jpg"; alt="http://i40.tinypic.com/4fv6on.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
This is just a picture of the little 'fence-thing' going down the front of my rabbit closure! (The bucket is full of timothy hay at the end there).

So far, the rabbits like it. Take a look at Remi for instance:

<img src="http://i42.tinypic.com/2qu3lsk.jpg"; alt="http://i42.tinypic.com/2qu3lsk.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
<img src="http://i41.tinypic.com/2ezjm75.jpg"; alt="http://i41.tinypic.com/2ezjm75.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
<img src="http://i42.tinypic.com/2s6kmxv.jpg"; alt="http://i42.tinypic.com/2s6kmxv.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
<img src="http://i39.tinypic.com/1zyef45.jpg"; alt="http://i39.tinypic.com/1zyef45.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
<img src="http://i40.tinypic.com/2iiir9x.jpg"; alt="http://i40.tinypic.com/2iiir9x.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
<img src="http://i42.tinypic.com/2vwwpco.jpg"; alt="http://i42.tinypic.com/2vwwpco.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
<img src="http://i44.tinypic.com/2u74uuf.jpg"; alt="http://i44.tinypic.com/2u74uuf.jpg"; class="bb-image" />

Please post cautions in having rabbits outdoors during the summer if you know any... I'm still worried about anything that they can get ahold of... And, if you like the contraption, give cookies and carrots! <3 xD

  • That is awesome! :D

We have a gazebo that we never use. So this year I'm setting it up so I can let the rabbits out in the yard. It'll be perfect because nothing can get in since it's fully covered! For extra protection though I'm going to put a fence inside of it along the edges. I can't wait to put it up! :D
    Please PM if I win.

Awweh ;P I want one! xD
I want to neuter Remi so I can get a female bunny. I don't want baby bunnies because it'd be totally "backyard" breeding because my rabbits are mixes. The mixed rabbit breeds are way to overpopulated for me to add to it. Plus, I don't have the time needed to care for all the bunnies if mine had babies ;_; xP

Thank you. I get lots of 'Ooohs' and 'Awwws' about that brat. xD Everyone loves that pain in the butt and I'm always sayin', "Well, if you lived with him, you'd feel much differently. xD"

    Timothy hay is normally fine as long as it is NOT MOLDY! Be sure because it could make your bunny very very sick :shock:

Also There isn't anything that you should have to worry about, Remi should be fine :) They love dandylions, plantain, grass, clover but not alot of it, mine like dry leaves in the fall, they love fruit tree branches, willow is good if your bunny is sick & that is all I can think of at the moment :)

*EDIT* If you like angoras take a look at my site :)

<a href="http://belltowerangoras.webs.com/"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://belltowerangoras.webs.com/

The layout is being redone by a professional xD

I definitely figured that mold would be bad, x.x
It's being sun-dried, so it should be okay.

I've heard of all those things being edible for bunnies, so that's good that I shouldn't have too much to worry about. But I'm not sure if you have any in that area. He also could eat too much grass for his tummy to handle at once. If rabbits eat too many veggies at once and are not used to it (especially something new) they can get gas (which is not like our gas, it can be hard to pass). Dolla gets that from Green Leaf Lettuce and too much protien (that's why she eats food with 14% protien in it xD). She won't eat, sits in a corner and gets mushy poo. Luckily, it doesn't last too long and I got her diet under control (which little changes will effect it) and I am VERY careful about giving her new things. I don't have a problem unless something changes. Hopefully she'll be able to eat grass as I'd love to let the bunnies out this summer when it's nice! :D

  • Wow, what a neat set up! Andi would love something like that. But I'm way too freaked out to leave him outside, let alone in the grass half the time. xD I can't tell you how much litter finds it's way into our yard.
You're making me want to post Andi's new living quarters now. xD
