Online Classes?

edited April 2009 in General Discussion
So more online schools are popping up where you take the course on the computer. My mom and I were thinking about it for me. I wanted to see if I could take my main classes like English, chemistry, biology, algebra 2, economics, accounting, and psychology. Then my extra activies at my school like photography and jewelry making.

Has anyone done an online course or is in one? Just curious if anyone has. If I can do that I may be able to take more extra classes at my actual school like painting, drawing, and website coding. I would be swamped with work but I think I may enjoy it. I won't be getting worksheets and I detest those. I am being so lazy now in school but I am feeling excited about maybe taking more classes.

 • Online classes are pretty much self-taught classes. =-P

I just find it's a little harder because you don't have a teacher right there to ask, and you have to send a message, then wait for a reply.

 • I actually prefer self-taught things..like I would go back in my math book at look at the examples and such. Doesn't seem too bad..hmm

Thanks for the input kimmeh. Have you done them? :D

 • I took U.S history First Semester last month, and am taking Math models, Algebra II and U.S. History B this summer.

We didnt have a very good teacher for the U.S history, but as far as the work, its alot easier and more fun. Most of the teachers i've seen will allow you to use Wikipedia, google the answers etc.

My friend and i that are taking them went and got a book loaned to us by the school for the class so that we didnt have to buy one.

They seem to be pretty cheap 150-250 per semester.

All in all i think they're a pretty great idea.
But before you sign up for one be sure to talk to a counselor or principle so that you know how many credits your school will take. Ex. my school will only take 3 credits that are outside of the school. So there might be a limit on your school as well.

Hope that helps

 • Thank Buffy. ^-^ We will be sure to check everything out and hopfully my school won't have that but you never know. xD

 • That's what i was saying lol.
And be sure to look and see about books and all. saves mucho money.

Correspondence courses are nice too. They are a little bit different than regular online courses but are still taken online.
I think they are a little more self pased than regular online

 • I think the correspondence is maybe more what my mom was on about. We will have to start looking through stuff. I wouldn't mind having to repeat biology if I didn't have to go to actual school. xD I don't want the same teacher I have now. And maybe I could steal the books..*cough* xD I wouldn't see the problem in them lending me books but you never know with schools and their crazy rules.

 • I did this and passed all my classes with flying colors, its not that hard if you actually do it.

Most people put it off -

 • I haven't done it, but I know LOTS of people who have. xD

The tests are easier because you have the book right there if you needed it. xD

 • I am taking health, and the only problem i have had at all with it is not typing the answers in correctly, because the computer has a set right answer that it looks for. Anyways, I find it a lot easier than taking it through school because i can work at my own pace.

 • You scare me LOL. Most kids would not be trying to take more classes than they already have to in school :D

 • I've done it. I did Math, English, and Bio 20. I hated it.. I'm doing it right now but college. Gahhhh... it's a lot harder because you have to be very disciplined to get your quota done for the day, EVERY day over and over again. And yeah, you're basically teaching yourself by reading, and going over everything a ton of times so it gets stuck in your brain. Unless you have a help phone or something, it gets hard just emailing all the time. And if you are a aural learner, it would be even harder. Thankfully I'm a visual learner so I learn well with diagrams and stuff. Just ask yourself if you really want to spend more time on school.. lol

 • I am actually doing FLVS (Florida Virtual School),
It is possibly some of the easiest stuff in the world,
I recomend them first and foremost ,
I am finishing ahead of time than what I would in public school,
I can do my work whenever I want,
and you only have to turn in a few assignments every week.

You can also take your classes through the summer,
-as long as the budget cuts don't go through-
and graduate early. :D
