I am wanting to start doing photos. I have gimp and kinda of familiar with it would anyone be willing to help me get started and show me how to work things and how to do different technics any help will be greatly appreciated.

If you look in the tips and tricks...there will be a thing called SImple Banner Tutorials for GIMP...it pretty much has the same basic idea.
