Stud Improvement?

edited December 2008 in Game Suggestions
I've noticed that whenever I try to put a relatively good dog up for stud for a good price, I get a lot of random people who breed mutts with my dog.

I would love it if there could be a button when putting a dog up for stud that prohibits (if you check the box) the breeding of mutts with your dog.

The only solution I've found to this problem as of now is setting a higher price, but I try to make it fair for everyone, whether they have tons of money or not.

Yay or nay?

 • I really like that idea. That would help VP out sooooo much since mutts are everywhere.

-Nods-

It should be added. Even if it does take a lot of work and such-- it'd help the population of mutts and having studs wouldn't be so hard xD
 • yes,
wonderfull idea

 • I don't think it's necessary to have all that coding added when the problem can be solved by having private studs/breeding contracts. By having public studs you are placing your animal out there to be bred with any female, no matter the breed of the pups. If you're really concerned about mutts coming from your studs, don't list them as public.
 • I agree with Aziu, you can put them up for public stud for a negative number then place in the notes that they need to message you with whatever info you want from the female.

It is harder to get service then, though... because people are too much in a rush to breed that they use a less good stud to breed with rather than waiting for you to answer... ;] Just my opinion. -sighs- and experience.

But then how can people know if s/he is offering service if he isn't put up for public stud? That number that automatically appears if you put 10000000000 in the stud fee box? I know from experience that most people don't want to have to go through a long droning few days just waiting if their female can be bred to this specific stud, if the owner doesn't sign on or whatever... and will just go find another stud.

I really like this idea.
Maybe if the dog is put up for a certain sum, the owner can check off a box that lists the females that are wanting a breeding. Beside each female's name it could say, "Delete demand," if she is not up to par with the stud owner's standards.

 • I second the idea!

I think people should be able to tick a box, a box such as the "Feature dog" button, and whenever someone tries to make mutts, VP recognises the breed and the next page says something like; "Sorry, this dog is a different breed to the stud"! Or something like that, anyway.

Thumbs up! ;D

 • I just have to ask... What difference does it make if your dog is used to breed mutts? Does it affect your dog's stats or other dog's stats that also breed to your stud? Does it in anyway make your dog unpure or even other pups born using your stud unpure within the confines of the game?

If the answer is no to theses questions, then take your money and run. If you are concerned about keeping your dog's lines "pure" only stud it to people who want to breed pure dogs by doing private contracts. Advertise your studs in the proper forum here, or on chat, use the BB and your short description and layout.

If you put your dog for public stud, it means you are opening your dog to public breeding, it's that simple. If you don't want the general public to use your dog, put it at a price that the general public can't afford or do private breedings.

The coding and the time it would take to do this is not worth the results when you have other options available to you.

Having mutts bred to my dogs does in fact make my dogs "unpure", as I believe having mutts bred with my dogs makes its lines impure. I don't consider high quality mutts, bred purposely for high stars or stats to take away from the value of a dog, however. Unfortunately, by leaving my dogs open for public stud, along come the people that breed their 0x4 untrained chihuahua to my 8x4 siberian husky, and bam, you get a 1x4 mutt. I don't mind if people breed mutts, but they need my permission to do so.

Also, while the idea of private stud/broods are appealing, it is not effective in reality. In the year I have had my stud/brood kennel, half of that time (6 months) I had them all up for private stud/brood. There were absolutely no offers from anyone, and my prices were reasonable for 200/280 pups. (less than 5k for most except rare breeds.)

I want to give players that would otherwise be limited by the narrow parameters of the budget the opportunity to breed with quality dogs for a lower price. In the same vein, however, I do not want irresponsible breeders breeding mutts with my dogs without my permission. If they are trying to get a 9x4 mutt and they have a 200/280 high statted dog to breed it with, I am fine with that, they just need to let me know. Most mutt breeders, however, have no idea what they are doing and are just doing it because it is cheap.

All I'm asking for is a way to limit this. Most of the feedback I have seen on this issue has been positive, and I think this change would be greeted with much appreciation.

 • That is a great idea. It will probably keep the mutt population from going up.

 • i like the idea too. it would make having a show stud kennel SO MUCH EASIER
