My Dog..(Please Read if you are a dog expert)

edited June 2008 in General Discussion
She has demodeptic mange, (the horretitary kind) and we stopped doing the mange bath. Now, we're doing the meds, and for the first time in two months of being on it, she threw up. What do I do? I know, dogs puke because the wind blows the wrong way, they do it very often, but should I do something if she pukes every day?
-Pepsi

  • :( Sorry to read your dog RL is ill. She may have an upset tummy from the meds. I know sometimes I get acid reflux from medicine like tylenol or Ibuprofen.
You need to contact the vet. When you do ask him if a pepcid AC would calm her tummy down. If he says yes get the proper dosage for your dog's weight from the vet. If you don't know it weigh yourself on a scale. Then pick your dog up and weigh both of you together, and subtract. In the mean time make sure he drinks plenty of water. Keep him on a bland diet of rice and boiled boneless chicken breast. That is what I would do, if it were me and my dog in this situation.

  • Thanks much. I might have a problem with the scale thing, she's a doberman/lab/dalmation and is vereh heavy. But, I know her weight, so, I'll do that. Thanks again. I'll try to get some pics of her up.

  • Personally, I think you should be asking a vet instead of us - we're not qualified and a vet could probably answer better.
    Bye.

I agree 100%. None of us here are vets (that I know of). If you think the dog isn't doing well please bring it to a vet.

With that said, if the dog just randomly threw up, it's probably fine. If there was blood or anything weird looking in the throw up or the dog is acting different like lethargic, constantly throwing up, diarrhea, etc. I would call a vet ASAP.

  • My dog had demodex and one of the sideafects is throwing I work at a vets office and its pretty normal but if the dog starts doing it excessively bring it in. I would call the vet though if I were you and make sure that with the kind of medication it is on that is what could possibly happen now I am not an expert on this though well educated. So all in all call the vet or bring it in.
  • She hasn't done it since, but I'm keeping track. The vomit had TONS of hair in it, and she VEVER licks herself. EVER.

Vomiting is actually a side effect of the medicine. Is your dog on Ivomec/Stromectol or Interceptor?

Certain breeds react badly with ivermectin, even though the vet should know that. Its usually BCs, Collies, Shelties, Aussies, and OES.
