Hermit Crabs

Ok, well, today, I got two Land Hermit Crabs xD Well, Dunno what gender and stuffs, but they have the painted shells (One is black with a frog face on it(Kermit)-and the other is the american flag(Unnamed)) I'll get pictures sometime, but does anyone else have any? And do you have any advice on em? xD

Nice advice.... don't leave them alone for over 2 days, or they will die..... Mine died when I left them at home for a weekend!

Yeah, the guy said if you just bite your lip and run warm water, they let go, and then your hand will hurt, but you won't hurt the hermet crab xD

^.^ They are kind of a family pet, and someone is always home. Or we could take them to my aunt and uncles (they also got 2 of them) But thanks

Put a lot of different sized shells in their tank. They need to change shells every so often.

Yeah, we haven't got any new shells yet. We are going to get a bigger cage first xD

yeah hahaha hmmm i'd say have some extra shells as they like to change them and have enough substrate that they can bury themselves in it what kind of set-up do you have for them?

Right now, we just have the carrying case until my dad gets me the aquarium tonight/tomorrow, and the guy who gave em to us said they should be good till then.

haha, funny story! when i was very little i owned these and loved um to death! one sunday i was playing with them when my mom called me out to the car to go to church. well, i didn't want to stop playing so i stuck one in my dress pocket and took him with me. during the first meeting he pinched my fingure and wouldn't let go. i sat there with my eyes watering, biteing my lip for like 5minutes before he let go!

after that i desided they should stay home

Yes Make sure that their tank is always humid. If you don't they'll suffocate. They need to wet their gills. Also get some calcium carbonate for their exoskeletal growth. It looks like sand (comes in all kinds of colors like neon green/blue/black), but it's really good for them. You cannot breed hermit crabs in captivity. It's been attempted yet cannot be done. So I hope you don't have plans with that. ;3 Also, you can hold them, just keep an eye on their fighting claw (big claw). They'll have a little feeding claw and a big one. The big one hurts the most, but they usually don't pinch. If they you here them "squeaking" (and they do) that means their upset and you better set them down. Sometimes you'll hear them doing this to eachother but no worries. ;3 Hermit crab politics I'm sure. Make sure they have lots and lots of things to climb on. They love to climb and adventure things.

Hermit crabs can climb. My brother had one that climbed up something in its cage and got loose for a few days. He found it under his bed...miraculously still alive and kicking. Make sure they have food and water. Water is the biggest thing. Don't let the water bowl or sponge go dry. My brothers seemed to die after "droughts" :roll:
