Public List of Scammers?

It might be a good idea to have a Public List of Scammers avaliable to everyone. So, the new players can see who the scammers are, and are not scammed by them.

And, it might benefit everyone, so we know who not to buy stuff from.

Yay or Nay?

  • Um, hard to say what I think about this... I do think it would be useful but at the same time, isnt there any rules againt these 'wall of shame' type of things?

Plus who would/wouldnt be put on the list? Would it be only players who have been suspended/caught by an op? Or would it be people who have attempted to do so? ....I think it ould be kinda hard to set up rules for this so that people dont just add names of people they dont like.
  • I'm on the fence on this one. First off, it would be good beacause it would show the scammers that we are serious about what goes on in the game. And Secondly, what if a person is scammed, doesn't know, and their account is briefly uded a a "middleman" scam account, their rep would be ruined for nothing.

  • Meh, I'll say no..

It's back to that "use your common sense" thing. Everyone has it, if they can't use it for some reason then let them. There is no excuse to not use common sense. If you're under 6, maybe, but then again, ask your parent.
I always use my common sense, or almost always. I get gut feelings when things don't feel right - I'd say more, but I'd get off topic.

Scammers are pretty easy to find, I mean, have you ever heard of someone selling a dye for 1 mil? Now, if you were offered it, would you buy it? If you used your common sense, nobody in the right mind would sell something they pay $9 for 1 mil. Unless you're a close friend to that person.

Wall of shames can really put a dent in a persons reputation. I used to have a lot of people hate me/put me on lists because I wouldn't do something the way they wanted me to, or I released/retired their dogs.

Putting up a huge scammer list would just make those players be harassed. You might think "Who cares?", but those people are still living creatures with feelings. Plus, scammers are usually suspended or at least dealt with in some way.
Chose to come "back" to this nick.. >.>
  • I don't know... I don't like the idea of names being public, some people take time to mature, I was a monstrous jerk, broke all kinds of rules before, now I'm reformed and made it to Ophood. I don't know, I'll give it some thought.
  • Zanibar is right.

But, I still like the idea of a list. I wouldn't help us players that have played forever so much, but what about the new players that have no idea what VP is like? I think they should be informed about how some people decide to act, and whose those people are.

  • Hmm I think I am for this on this one, but only if its an op desision of who's on it. As in, someone cant add someone just to add someone they hate, its if someone has done something bad enough for an op to get involved, suspended, banned for some time, ect. I have been scammed by many, and it probably could have been proventable with a list of this type

  • Yes Miruko(sp?), Only OPS would be able to edit this list, and it would only be the major scammers. People couldn't just add people they hate to the list.

  • I already know quite a few people that need to be put on this list if it should ever be made. :?
  • If people turned scammers into the Ops and had proof the scammers are usually dealt with I think.

Wall of shames were outlawed on the game because they were damaging a lot of players who didn't deserve it. For instance some people would put you on one without listing why when you'd refused to sell them a dog, then other players would come along and think you scammed or something and avoid you even though you did nothing wrong. I realize you're saying just Ops would put people on the list, but if the Ops know about them they should be telling Nef and getting them banned from the game. And having a list of people banned already would just be a little pointless.

I think having a list of scammers publicly would just make the scammers become more creative, plus it would add a negative feel to the game that's not really needed. Turn scammers in, get them banned from the game so they can't come back under a new name.
  • Yes, but there are some players who have been suspended, not banned, that have come back and are picking up where they left off with their scamming. :?

Ive decided on no... there are people on here who you should beware of but wouldnt be able to go on the list because theres no real evidence. I could name quite a few people here on the forums who have stirred up trouble in the auctions section recently, but do I have any proof that theyre breaking rules? No.
  • I don't really think a scammers list would be fair, i mean, someone oculd claim to be scammed by someone, and hadn't. someone once callled me a scammer because i had just started training their dog, somthing happened at home so i had to send it back (along with a FULL re-fund) and told people i was a scammer! :(

so i really don't think it's fair, I know i'd hate it if i saw my name on a scammers list! as far as i can see, it kinda looks like a 'you've done somthing bad to me so i'm gonna do worse!' sorta thing.
