Rescuing dogs

edited July 2006 in Game Suggestions
My friend and I weren't able to sleep tonight, so we got to talking about VP and our rescue kennels. We had a thought, and we know we aretn the only ones annoyed at all the unrescuable dogs even though the owners havent been on since say, 2004.

Her idea was, if a dog is 3 months and in bad condition, it can be rescued, like it currently is. If a dog is 6 months and in resonable condition(about half way) it can be rescued. But if the owner has been gone 9-12 months, even if the dog is in good condition, it should be rescuable. if they're gone a year, they most likely wont be coming back, so why just let the dogs rot away in the kennel?

Also with the ones under lease, we were thinking of lumping them in the 9-12 month range to allow them to be rescued as well

 • I 100% agree!!! this drives me nuts to see dogs in inactive kennels that you can't get at because they are in good condidtion i uderstand like people might go away or move and be waiting to rehook up the computer but a whole year is too long and i belive they should be able to be rescued. i would buy another kennel if this was possible and love to see it happen :D
 • so would i! there's some dog i've been going NUTS about and the owner hasn't been on since Nov 05 and since they're groomed etc. i can't get them! argh!! i just have to slowly waste away, being tortured by their greatness...... lol but i really like these dogs!
 • i have a holding kennel, and i sometimes leavemy dogs there for 2 months before i get around to showing them, that might not be very fair to some sponsers.

 • yeah, but if that was the case, couldn't you just log in somthing like, once a month, even if it's log in then log out it would still count as you being online, and would only take less than 1 min and your dogs would be safe!
 • yeah it's more or so for the ones that are in great condition and haven't been in an active kennel for over a year. (drove me nuts so i switched kennel types. and maby kinda a weir thought make it possible to get dogs from heaven if they are not at the age limit? hmm make things extreamly complicated. and th ewhole trying to keep gifties rare thing. not the released pups just the retired dogs cause no one wanted them?? i dono
 • yeah! what i was acctually thinking, was when you release a dog, or retire it early, it doesn't just disappear, it goes to a sort-of rescue kennel owned by support, and it's, i dunno automaticly put up for adoption??? but then on the outher hand, that would take alot of time, effort and coding......
 • it would take a whole lot to make it to where only certain dogs could be rescued, discluding the ones from Kanine Heaven(retirment center, whatever it is called). also, people like Squall who have hundreds of gifties and sponser accounts wouldnt really think to check every single kennel just to keep their dogs safe. gifties would be overbred like crazy!. It was a good suggestion though, but it might be to much work.

 • I know a heck of a lot of my friends from VHR who don't want anything to do with VP because of rescue kennels. They say that if Nef implemented something similar on VHR, they'd even quit that game, which they are completely obsessed with, so it's not a matter of lack-of-dedication.

I have nothing against rescue kennels. I started out as a rescue kennel. I support active rescue programs.

However, I do not like it when people rescue dogs and then throw them back into the system untrained and overbred. What's the damn point of "rescuing" a dog, just to let it loose into an unforgiving puppy-mill and poverty-ridden virtual world?

If you're going to rescue dogs, at least stat max them to 100. Any specialized rescue kennel can do that. All the better if you have or hire a training kennel to max them to 200. If you don't, the dogs are not only in the same boat as they were before, but they negatively affect the Virtualpups gene pool because of lack of training and being overbred in their untrained stat.

Making leaseable dogs rescuable would only toss more untrained dogs in. If this was implemented, you'd next be clamoring for the addition of rescuing boarded dogs, hey? Then there'd be no security at all for those of us that have worked hard to get good dogs, paid for goodie dyes, paid for sponsors, been upstanding players, but had to leave for a while.
