• My biggest hobby is my horses. I have 3ish (really 4, including a foal that is due any day) and they take up a good amount of my spare time  I'm sure being an ag kid (and having horses yourself), you would know that though. I had a friend growing up who was big into showing cows, goats, ect and it kept her very busy.
Other than that, I really like different cultures, especially Asian ones, so I like to find authentic cultural stores and restaurants. I usually just search the web, and drive to places that sound good. I have found many cool spots this way. Kind of a weird hobby, but I enjoy it.

(Cool topic by the way! :P )

  • What kind of horses do you have?

I actually have a mare due in the next few weeks myself xD mine is an aqha mare bred to a leopard app stallion. Hoping for a spotted filly :D

I've got..... Six horses... Not including the foal. My aqha eventing horse, a thoroughbred who does pleasure classes, a pinto who will be my... Playing around ith horse once he's broke, a mustang who's going into retirement soon, an AQHA/APHA yearling who is starting lungeline classes this year, aaand my aqha Broodie.

I WISH I could drive around and find cool places. I live in the most boring area of the world EVER. I have to go an hour away to find a mall. All we have are trees!

Right now I have two Icelandics (who I show), one very pregnant Tenessee Walker (who is my trail buddy), and her Tennessee walker foal on the way, due 3 weeks ago. At this point, she could foal any minute, so I just consider the foal part of the herd  I am actually working on buying another Icelandic horse (gorgeous 5-gaited stud), but long distance buying can take a while, so I am trying to be patient with that  . Lastly, one of my other Icelandic mares is being bred in April, and then I think I will be done getting horses for a while.
I can't imagine not living by anything! I suppose if you have a lot of animals though, they will keep you busy enough. Do you keep your horses on your property? I live in a small suburb, so there isn't a lot within 10 minutes of me, but I do live within 25 minutes of one large city, and 1 hour from another large city, so that that is where I do a lot of my exploring.

I would loooove an Icelandic! Sadly, locally all we really have is stock horses. In fact my thoroughbred is a pretty strange sight here. I'm getting to the point where is like to be down to four horses again because the care for the ones I use is getting a bit more expensive. I'd love a stallion but I don't have the fencing for one. I live in a very rural area so I am able to keep all my animals with me at home. We have two 70 acre farms to work off of.

I do love Icelandics. I have owned stock breeds, and even other gaited breeds, and I have to say Icelandics are my favorite. But part of that is that I love speed, and 5-gaited Icelandics have the flying pace, which is smooth enough to sit but goes up to 40 mph. It's quite exilerating :P . My sister and I are working on getting a boarding barn, but for now we board. You are very lucky you have them with you. There are sooo many times I would like to go outside my door and see my horses. I hear you on the expense though. I think these 6 will be the most I can keep until I get my own property, because being so close to cities, boarding is quite expensive by me. The good thing about boarding though, is because it's a large farm, they are set up for stallions. I worry about that when I get my own place, but my sister wants to breed Percherons, so I am sure we will have to have something set up for stallions.

I hear you on enjoying speed! My eventer may be a quarter horse, but she's a little speed machine. I have yet to actually compete at an event, however my instructor told me she's the secret weapon who's going to compete with imported warmbloods! I'm not much of a gaited horse person. Most gaiters around here are twh's and since I'm so big on showing.. I know I'd want too... But there are some very bad things that happen in the gaited horse world... Especially saddle seat stuff.

I actually started riding western pleasure, and I hated western riding, but besides that, some of the practices were cruel and downright mean. Then I switched to high level saddle seat, and it wasn't a lot better, but it wasn't worse either. I did that the longest. I switched to jumping, and while I really like it, it takes a special kind of person to do it all the time. I just found I didn't want to take my life in my hands everything I rode, lol. From there, I was a bit sick of the show world, and just stuck to minor shows/trail riding in the area with my TWH. Icelandics have been my last venture, and I am much more pleased with their show world than with the stock/ western pleasure and gaited horses. They encourage natural treatment of the horse, and often grade on the spirit if the horse. Many, many breeders don't imprint foals because they believe the nature and bond with horses is better. It's uncommon and frowned on to train an Icelandic before 4 years old. I will say they are more selective about people, if your Icelandic isn't registered or high quality, they won't want it at shows or really even at their barns. But the treatment of horses is the best in my opinion. I guess it also sort of depends on the level you show at, and your area, but I have learned that all the disciplines have their issues.
    4r93lz.png
  • That's very true. I haven't had much dealings with the high level pleasure side of things yet. Though I will tell you, I chose hunters because I can't stand how crippled and off the horses movement is forced to be. At least with hunters they can move out a little!

I'm still playing around quite a bit to find out exactly what I wanna do, however eventing is quickly becoming special to me!! Hopefully it works out long term!

I'm actually going too try setting up my first ever beta sorority when i get a chance. they can be tricky. I've read that actually breeding betas can be tricky as well as the males and females will still fight. I can't remember how to actually go about breeding them but I know if didn't sound fun at all lol. I've got plans for future aquariums when we move. I'm wanting to get a 125 gallon tank. Like potato chips I just can't have one tank at a time! I like too many types of fish that aren't compatible. Right now my largest tank is a 55 gallon and i only keep freshwater but again when we finally get to move I'm wanting to try my hand with marine tanks.

Every now and again I'll sit down and write but it's rare. I've got tons of story ideas and bits of stories started but they never get finished. As for reading I love books but have to be in the mood to read. I'll get bouts where I'll just sit and read for days at a time. Then go a long stretch without reading at all.

I didn't see your post up there  I wish I could have fish, but unfortunately I can't keep them alive. I always had fish growing up, and they are actually pretty cool and fun to watch. So about a year or two ago, I got a tank and tried to have a few, but it didn't go well. I'm not even sure to this day what I was doing wrong, but they kept dying. I bought them in pairs of 2 or 3, and finally after about 8 died, I gave up. I didn't want to kill anymore.
On a happier note, my sister got a beta and algae eater, and that algae eater grew sooooo big. She has a 3 or 4 gallon tank, and he grew to about 12 inches long, and she needed a bigger tank. I have never seen one get that big!

  • I think betas are gorgeous. Especially the dragonscale ones. But i just dont have patience for fish lol!! I always forget to feed them...

I think my post got lost for a little bit :3 I love my tanks and really they aren't too hard to keep once you get the basics down. Also depends on the types of fish as some are just harder to keep and some that use to be hardy have grown fragile over the years because of over and inbreeding. A prime example of this is fancy guppies. There could have been nothing you were doing wrong and it could have been the type of fish. Or it could have been a number of things really. I will say the bigger the tank the easier it is to maintain and even keep clean. Sounds counter intuitive but its true lol.

Bet she had a common algae eater/pleco, those things can get huge. I know over a foot long, maybe even up to two feet O__o There's tons of different types of plecos and most of them get huge and in all honestly most of them aren't the best algae eaters anyways  . Bushy nose plecos (also know as bristle nose plecos) are some of the smallest plecos and get about 4-6 inches and are pretty good algae eaters. Oto catfish are tiny, like maybe 1-2 inches and are really good algae eaters but need to be in schools of at least 4 but 6 are better. Snails are also really good algae eaters and there's tons of varieties.

I'm going to be setting up an Asian garden themed beta sorority in my smallest tank, a 20 gallon. It will have between 6-8 female betas in there. I've been doing research on setting one up for a while now and am ready to try my hand at it. My medium sized 29 gallon will be a pseudo marine theme and home to black phantom tetras (already have a school of them but want to expand) and maybe white cloud mountain minnows. My biggest tank, 55 gallon, will be decorated with rocks I collect and a few other things I already have. It's going to be a community tank with platies, mollies, Bolivian and gold rams and angelfish. All tanks will have Cory catfish schools and snails as clean up crews.

Man I could talk all day about aquariums XD
  • I had a pregnant molly once. My mom killed her before she gave birth lol!!!
  • Mollies and any live bearing fish are like rabbits and breed like crazy! I'll be keeping plenty of other fish that will eat the babies to avoid over stocking my tank. I've got a male beta in with my mollies and platy now that keeps the offspring under control. The beta will be moving to the pseudo marine tank when I start rearranging things. That'll be the only tank with compatible fish for him lol.
  • Funny thing is, rabbits have given me the most trouble breeding! If you get an established proven pair it's easy. But getting new young rabbits to get with the program is hard. Just had my first litter with my young doe... Just took three months worth of trying! And before that I had a first timer who took three months and finally had some, but she didnt have any maternal instinct and had them all over the floor. No nest at all.
  • I never knew that about rabbits, I had just always heard they were prolific breeders lol. Talking about an established pair vs trying to get a new pair together reminds me of cichlid fish. They are about the same way. They breed like crazy once established pairs emerge but it can be hard trying to force a pair together. I had some rainbow cichlids that were trying to pair and I thought were going to spawn but it wasn't successful.
  • It's not so much that they have to bond as a pair... But an inexperienced rabbit can cause a lot of issues. I had two inexperienced does, and they wouldn't ever do right and my buck got discouraged and quit trying with them!! Anyone else's he was fine with.. But the does I owned... Not even worth the energy.
  • Ah I see, that sounds like it could be a pain for sure >__<
  • Some of my hobbies are training and showing horses my main horse can no longer compete at the level I would like so am on the search for another one. Along with that I love training dogs my young guy I plan on doing agility with him once my back is good enough to keep up with him. I used to love to write but haven't had inspiration or the motivation to and the same goes for drawing nothing has sparked the creative spot. I do however have 2 little businesses that I am running one making dog collars and leashes the other is selling essential oils.
  • What kind of horses do you show WyldFire?
  • I used to breed Netherland Dwarf bunnies, never had any issues with them having litters >.> They bred like...rabbits lol.

Current hobbies:
- Attempting to get better at photography <a href=""http://0paperwings0.deviantart.com""; target="_blank" class="bb-url">(dA album if interested)
- Building websites, but recently had to migrate my stuff to a new server so my own website is currently in need of redesign and reconfiguring so the silly thing actually loads...
- Baking cakes, which dad doesn't fully appreciate me taking over the kitchen with all my different bits and bobs >.>
- Reading (currently making my way through the Divergent trilogy)

I was looking into breeding beardies but don't have enough room to accommodate more vivariums :( so this plan is out the window.

  • I had a pair of BEW Nethies for a while Paper. Sent 200$ a piece on em... And they died the day before I was gonna breed them. As well as my grand champion pair of Californians and a doe with a litter. I was about ready to quit at that point lol!!

But I found my hotots and knew I needed them lol
  • I currently show a Quarab but will be getting a QH, I mainly barrel race and rodeo so my little half arab is sort of out of place she but she can run thats for sure. Only problem is she blew out her knee earlier this winter and it swells up every time she is worked :( But the new mare I want will be interesting she is drop dead gorgeous though. Shes jet black no white which is one of my dream horses lol.
  • I've always wanted a black! For some reason I always get sorrels and bays! Though I do have a roan.. But she's not a pretty roan lol.

They were more like cats than rabbits in the attention they wanted lol.

I horse back ride.. I own 4 horses.

I also sew and try to make quilts, but I usually get bored halfway through LOL.

Of course I play video games like VP :P

  • It seems like everyone on vp owns horses these days lol
  • I guess I'm the odd one out, I don't have any horses. Not for lack of interest, though. Only cats, and I'm trying to convince my husband to let me get a dog.

Hobbies for me are weightlifting, yoga, cooking, reading and beer tasting (is that okay to say here? haha. I'm over 21). I also crochet occasionally, and go to concerts when I can.
