Hello!

Hello, my name's Lupin, and I'm fairly new to virtualpups. I think I've just about got to grips with the game basics, but I thought it would be a good idea to join the forums, and here I am :) I haven't really spoken to any other players, so I thought I would just say hello and introduce myself.I love both horses and dogs, but unfortunately don't any real ones of my own. I also enjoy making graphics, so I had the idea that I could perhaps sell some on here and try and make some playcash. I don't really know if they're any good, or what they'd be worth. I have one I made on my kennel and as my signature, so any advice on them would be appreciated, as well as any other advice and tips for a newbie!

  • Hello all! Thanks for your welcome! :)

SandPiper - I'd quite like to breed Timber Wolves, perhaps for mushing? What would be the best way to go about this, do you think?
    MoonlightShade2_zps300e4568.jpg
  • Timber wolves for mushing. :) Quite a challenge.
Well, current competitors out there are Werewolves with 135+ birth strength.
You'd have to begin breeding some TWs that can kick Werewolf butt in order to place within an event.

I've heard that currently there are more than a few bugs in the eventing system.
It wont be fixed until Virtualpups Beta is released, which may be months from now.
That being said -- your dogs MAY or MAY NOT place correctly. But if they're good -- they'll place in a decent amount of shows.
Just giving you a heads-up on that part and don't let that deter you.
Eventing is a good way of making a little extra side-cash for not that much effort! (as long as you're not counting the breeding part :P)

Now, for your Timbers.
What you want to do, since you'll want to use the wolves for a specific event, is breed them for particular stats.
<a href="http://ebilmoose.com/vp/wiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HomePage"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">THIS SITE will definitely give you a few pointers to help you out if you get stuck.
If you click "Dog Eventing", it'll show you what each event is "supposed" to judge the dog on. The bug makes things a little more unpredictable.
For mushing, the three stat's you'll be needing is endurance, strength, and speed -- in that order.
So breed your Timbers for either endy or strength. You can go ahead and pick, but don't forget the competition your dogs will be against.
Go ahead and take a look at some already run mushing events and check out what the teams that place the most are doing.
Do they have the highest strength? Endurance? What's going on with them :P

Breeding your timbers, on the other hand, is the simple part.
All you have to do is train & breed. And usually a simple type of training will be enough to make stats raise.
I suggest 280/200s + Aggro Cap (250),, since you're only looking for stats that cannot be groomed over 200.
However, you may choose to do long grooms as well. :) It's completely up to you.
Then you'll have to choose which stat you want to focus on.
AND THEN... you can to repeat countless times until you get the stats you want :P

The dogs you'll start your lines for can be imports or already-bred dogs off the market.
If you want a pure line, no inbreeding, go for imports. You may have to buy quite a few, but you'll get a pure line :)
If you don't really care, then go with dogs off the market. It's usually cheaper, depending on the quality of dogs you're purchasing.
I think Timber Wolves are at 10x4s already, so you could even go ahead and start with some of those!
Do sets of 8 pairs - half females, half males.
So 8, 16, 32, or 64 dogs.
And dont be afraid of starting at something small like 16, rather than 32.
You can always add more dogs into your lines :)

Did this help?
Do you have anymore questions?

  • Hey welcome to the game and the forums :) if you need any help with training or breeding them timbers then come to me :) Melrose (my friend) and I bred some timbers to 10x4 quite easily and getting their stats up is no problem. I would say if your wanting to have the dogs trained and bred for eventing then you could breed and train yourself as a novice, though it would be better going to a sponsor for both as they can get better stats. Some sponsors do special discounts for novice where training and breeding is like so much cheaper :)

Your graphics are really nice :) they should sell, you could always do a giveaway to get them out there and get some feedback, and examples. Pop them on Artist Alley and then set up a commission, most likely if people like the giveaway graphics they will come back and pay :) I know I do

Hope you enjoy.
