Cars

edited May 2013 in Vent
In England our cars have to take an MOT test every year. Which basically ensures they are road worthy, and allows us to get them taxed and keep us legal etc.

So mine car has a habit of failing, its not a surprise when it does. I mean last year they failed it on the horn not working (among other things) but I had used it that day driving to the garage so dunno what horn they were trying to use XD

This year, it failed. Like I said not a surprise. So got it tested, then passed the paperwork onto dad (he was in the REME so quite a skilled mechanic) so we could order the right parts. Parts all arrived, to find out that the windscreen wiper was the wrong one. Keeping in mind that on the website you end your reg number and its meant to show you the right parts for your make/model of car.

Then whilst dad is attempting to remove the wheel bearing, it breaks getting stuck in the hub carrier x.x Take this part to a garage to use their fancy tools to extract it out. But whilst at the garage my dad's girlfriend ends up dropping the new wheel bearing where it cracks open and renders that one broken. So after work it is a mad dash to the car parts shop to get a new one. At which point dad says she's not to pay me back because apparently she was doing me a favour to take me to the garage at lunch to get it sorted. This annoyed me.

So from Saturday to Wednesday my car is on jacks, meaning I had no car that time. But on the Wednesday my dad finally gets all those parts fitted and out for a test drive. It creaks like hell, and he figures out what is causing that. This makes me happy. But means ordering more parts from the shop and waiting for them to arrive.

Saturday dad has all those extra parts fitted, so I can go off to get new tyres. When getting tyres fitted I get my tracking done, and turns out some rod was rusted so they couldn't do that. So had to get another garage to look at that. But that gets all sorted that day.

Monday! Today! My car was booked in for a retest, but on the drive to work a god damn stone the size of a plum bounces off my car out the back of the lorry. Putting a rather visible crack in the middle of my windscreen. This, by the way, is an automatic fail of the MOT test. Take it to the garage anyway, they say the other parts will now pass the test but will need the screen fixing before they can give me paperwork to confirm it. Insurance company arrange a guy to come fit it. He won't be out until THURSDAY. So this is after my allowed retest range. So will have to do the entire MOT test AGAIN.

Long story short I am so VERY unimpressed with my car right about now. I've nearly spent £1k on this damn thing in a month. And the git still needs fuel in its belly, which is another £50-60. And I had treated myself to a new stereo which I am now scared to put into the car as something is bound to go wrong.

-sadface- I almost feel like actually crying XD Stupid car.

Sorry its a bit of a wordy rant >.>

 • Ugh this happens all the time with our car the WOF tests it has to take find every little issue then once youve fixed one problem a million more show up, you end p spending more on parts than the cars even worth.

 • I think the car is just hating me because I said I wanted to save up for a new one in Aug/Sept lol. So its like "neeer no saving money for yooou!". Even though I bought it a shiny new stereo =(

But yeah, my car is only worth 1500 lol so is getting to the point of a new car would have been better. Yet dad keeps at me "why do you want a new car? this one is fixed now so its fine". He doesn't approve of me wanting a Peugeot 106, which will be petrol instead of diesel like I have now. And is also a car they stopped making in 2003. So none will be any younger than '03 plate. So he complains the cars I want are too old, or too many miles on the clock blah blah blah >.> I'll get one no matter what!

 • That's okay on my way home from work today I stopped to get gas. I fill up my tank and go on my way only to notice my gas light comes on then my fuel Gauge drops to E and goes back up to F. Long story short I think my Fuel level sensor needs fixed which costs about $400. I hate cars sometimes.
 • Im lucky i get others to drive me places in the family car ,partly the reason why im not went for a liscence becauseif i dont drive the car i dont have to pay for it :p

 • Here in the states its called an inspection. We have to have new inspection stickers every year. Mine failed this passed year cause my headlights were "illegal" and my tires were bald.. usualy my truck always passes. Where I live at, the only time a cracked windsheild is illegal and won't pass is if the crack is in the drivers line of site. Otherwise they will still pass. Unless of course it looked like my recent busted windsheild >.>

Its gotta suck putting that much money into a car in a month.

My friend has been putting water in her radiator (which is fine for a few months but not good in summer or hot times) and recently her car got up to 260+ degrees and I finally noticed it and was like "pull over. Your cars too hot." She started arguing saying that it would mess it up to shut it off while hot. I informed her that it was running boiling water through her engine and she needed to shut it off before she blew up her engine and had to spend 3k plus to fix a 1k car.. lol
 • Damn I would have just bought a new car XD

But yeah if you have a chip that isn't in the driver's view I think it can pass. But this is a crack from the middle in the bottom, curves up about 2-3in then goes all the way over the passenger's side. Its growing each day! And its nearly to the edge of the screen >.< makes me nervous! But fingers crossed, that weather permitting the guy will be out tomorrow to replace the screen for me.

Mine had bald fronts, and my lights are normally apparently not working or they are not positioned correctly so they apparently "dazzle" on coming drivers. If they aren't working you just hit them as the connection is a bit off XD

Sadly my stereo arrived today, but I am too scared to go put it in the car until my car has actually passed the test xD

Had to cancel my retest which should have been this evening :/ Makes me worry that they are going to be mean and pick on more faults when they do the testing all again >.<

 • Dang you do need a new windshield. It should be okay to drive though, I drove mine over thirty miles with my windshield busted and it didn't fall in as long as I didn't go over 65mph lol I hope you get it all worked out and fixed soon though!
 • Happy to say that the screen got replaced yesterday.

Then car when in for testing again today, and it did fail at first >.< But I think the manager was feeling bad for me, as he explained that when the mechanic had done testing he said "it passed right?" and the mech had told him no. So he told him the car wasn't allowed to fail lol. One thing they failed it for was a mistake because my car has an older fitting for the electrics of the tow bar. Because of this they weren't required to be tested, the newer versions do. Only bonus so far of having an old car! Other two things were easy enough for them to correct for free just to make it pass hahaa. So when I went to pick it up he was laughing and explaining this all to me, then handed me over the paper to say it finally passed!

Now I can finally attempt to fit my stereo tomorrow! Omg I so can't wait to get my new tax disc so I can just be done with cars for the next couple of months at least lol. I shouldn't need to do anything but to fill its belly.
