New Laptop Suggestions?

For my birthday (yay!) I'm getting a new laptop (FINALLY) but I need suggestions as to what kind I should get. I figured I would ask you guys to see what kind you have and get your honest reviews/opinions!

I'm not picky but I do have a couple requirements...

My requirements:
- must be suitable for handling good amounts of photo and video files (in other words, needs to be fairly fast in the import/export department because I am into photography/film making)
- CD/DVD drive preferred but not necessarily required
- must be able to get me through college
- needs to be pretty durable (I take good care of my things but with a room mate, things can happen)
- Decently priced!

If I think of anything else, I'll add it to the list!

 • I cant help you with pricing but i can help you with what to look for

Processors: intel i3 and up avoid intel celeron and pentium (they are over 10yrs old and slow)
Ram (memory): 4gb or more
Harddrive: SSD would improve speed but are expensive, for handling large video files youll want at least 1tb

DVD drives usually come on laptops with screen sizes 14inch and over

I have an acer aspire 5742, upgraded the ram from 3gb to 8gb runs pretty fast, ive had it 2yrs and its had a few scrapes along the way and the screen has been replaced twice (my own fault) lol. Other than that its been a really good pc.

I am getting a HP pavillion g6 (i think) when i get some money through which has a dedicated graphics card which i need, though an integrated will be fine for you, it has a 1tb hard drive and 8gb ram. For £350.

I wouldnt pay over £400 for a type of pc u want since you could purchase an external harddrive.

Hope this helps
