Excuse me for loving my dogs >.>

edited April 2013 in Vent
This will probably end up being a loong vent, so I'm sorry in advance. I just -really- need to get this off my chest, and figured that dog lover's would probably understand.

When somebody has pride for something, they tend to talk about it. Maybe they talk about it too much, but it's hard not to when you're proud of something. My world revolves around my dogs, and I have a lot of pride and love for them. I spend a lot of time on them and with them. I'm currently unemployed (but looking for a job), so I do have a ton of free time. I make my dogs homemade treats because I'm sick of all the recalls. I'm switching them to a better brand of dog food for the same reason as the treats. So yes, the dog food will cost more, but I don't care. I want my dogs to be healthy and live long lives. I also set up things outside, and inside for them to play with (such as a spring pole, a tow rope tied to a tree for them to shake, a couple of jumps etc).

Personally, I really don't see anything wrong with putting a lot of time into my dogs. It makes them happy and it makes me happy. If it doesn't bother me, and it doesn't bother my mom (whom I live with), why should it bother other people who do not live with us? For example...My aunt called the other day and while we were talking, she asked me "So, what are you up to?", I told her that I was making dog treats and then I was going outside to run Boss. This is the response I got: "Jeez! You put -way- too much time into those dogs! Especially that *insert "bad" word here* Pit Bull mix of yours!". Um...what!? First of all that "Pit Bull mix of mine" is my baby, do -not- disrespect him, or any of my other dogs for that matter.

Anyways, I'm done ranting now. I think... :p

 • Jeez at least your looking after your dogs which is more than can be said for some people... my neighbors for instance are always out and they have 2 Jack Russell's and they always bark because no-ones home.

I say credit to you for actually looking after your dogs.

I get that you talk about your dogs a lot, I talk about my Web Development a lot but its what I love and what I want to do, so why shouldn't I talk about it? same reason why you should talk about your dogs.

At least your actually doing something :D

 • I'm exactly the same as how you've described yourself up there. I put a ton of time and money into my dogs and people think I'm crazy. I'm currently taking my smallest dog to training. We're working on getting her CGC at the end of this month as well as branching out into rally obedience and getting her therapy dog certified. The training wasn't cheap and I'm getting a lot of crap from everyone about it. I was told that I'm wasting my money on a mutt (OMG! She's a mutt!!! Everyone run and hide!) lol. I should be spending it on the dog I drove to Florida to get. Yeah, but I'm being trained to teach Bayleigh and therefore, I can then train Pirate on my own. And that everything I'm learning at training, I can lean off the internet. No, not really...

Sorry.... that was my little rant. People will never understand unless they love their dog as much as you love yours. Just ignore them. I know it's hard but you gotta live with it and grow thick skin.

Oh good luck on her CGC! I'd like to end up having Boss get one and be a therapy dog as well, I'm too nervous he'd flunk though, lol Must have more training!
You can totally learn all of it off the internet! Everything on the interwebz is 100% true!...lol

I try to let it just slide, I really do, it just gets difficult at times. I can deal with having people say stuff like that, but it's just a constant stream of complaining, so it's irritating. I mean it's not like I'm out doing the things that other people my age are doing (such as partying and what not). Blah people >.< *becomes a hermit*

 • Some people don't know the love and bond shared between an owner and their dog and unfortunately can not understand why we spend so much time and money on and with them. Honestly while people like this infuriate me I also pity them since they'll never know the joy and unconditional love of a dog. I absolutely cherish my dogs. They bring something into my life than I cannot live without. They drive me crazy at times but the love and bond I have with them knows no bounds. People who are missing out on the beauty of living with a dog can never understand us. Just remember while the ignorant words of others can hurt our feelings and our pride they can not shake what we have with the dogs we love, they only strengthen it. I really do pity those who cannot open their life to an animal and feel they are truly missing out on something wonderful.

p.s. sorry about the long reply. Keep your head up, and keep looking after those pooches that you love and that love you and forget the rest of the world.

People are overated and anyway dogs have much better personalities ,they dont judge people or complain ,bark sometimes but never seem to complain about our choices ,i think its great you care so much for your doggy friend there are so many horrible stories of dogs uncared for its a nice change to see someone caring so much :) .People are like that about our dogs thinking we spend to much on them and theyre *just animals* ,they get the very best foods(and usually more expensive than what i eat) their hair cuts cost alot more they have better insurance than we do, sure they can be expensive to care for (but then so are people) but the rewards of their friendship are worth it :)

 • Ugh I can't stand when people say "They're just dogs"...like that's suppposed to mean something. For that matter I could say "They're just kids, they don't need all those expensive healthy foods and nice clothes and possibly hundreds of thousands of dollars spent on education" but I'd sound silly, because people are more than willing to invest in the ones they love. The same goes for us with 'fur-babies'. I feed my dogs only the best food (which is more than I can say for myself lol), spoil them with toys and treats, take them for professional training and to doggie day camp when I have to travel without them. I even get strange looks from some people when I put sweaters and coats on them to go out in the snow! But I just tell myself that it's their loss because there's a certain joy that comes from loving someone more than you love yourself, and they'll never understand :-)

 • Para: I never really thought of it that way. People like that are really missing out, and should be pitied. It's quite sad really.

Ivy: "but the rewards of their friendship are worth it". Exactly! Dogs do so much for people. I mean when I'm sad or upset in some way, I'd much rather talk to my dog, rather than a person. They deserve to be treated well.

Bryson: What you said made me think of this: <a href="http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/9573/70398129e911626m3.jpg"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/9573/70398129e911626m3.jpg.
"But I just tell myself that it's their loss because there's a certain joy that comes from loving someone more than you love yourself, and they'll never understand"....and that is certainly true!
