pleurisy

edited January 2013 in Vent
pleurisy hurts so bad you don't want to breathe. Some times it feels like there's this giant bubble of fluid around your heart and small air bubbles are floating around popping. Other times it feel like an enraged bull tap dancing on my chest. I wish I didn't have this. So far the vicodin isn't helping and usually any type of medicine puts me out quickly. Anyone else had this? Any tips to keep pain to a small amount?

  • I've had it twice. The absolutely only thing that helped me with the pain until the antibiotics kicked in was staying as still as possible. The first time I had it, my ex thought I was faking because I was laying in the bed and wouldn't move because the pain was so bad. I'm like you and pain meds usually knock me out, but if they were helping with the pleurisy, I'd hate to think how bad it got without the medication. For me, the antibiotics started helping the second day and the pain started easing. By the third day, it just kinda ached (Can't quite describe it), but not really hurt anymore.

  • Staying still is hard for me. I live in a rocking chair. I can't imagine having this twice. I hope the meds start working soon. I'd take the ache feeling over this. Pain is a solid 10 right now. The lowest it gets is a 6 and then goes right back up
