Import/Line Question

Well I've been working on lines for eventing and once I reach my end goal I usually retire my lines as I'm finished with them and they are usually 12 years+ but I tend to keep the imports that started the line. My imports can still be bred from to start new lines if I wanted but I'm wondering are they really worth keeping? Is it best to start new lines with fresh imports or does it matter to use some that have been sitting around? Just kind of curious as to opinions and what other players do with theirs.

 • It shouldn't matter if they've been sitting around awhile. Really the only consideration is if you want dogs with the same bloodlines, and since it's for eventing lines I'm not sure it's such a big deal.

 • Thanks for the input guys. Lines being related isn't a big issue with me since I usually line breed. I also don't like having a lot of random dogs in my kennels that are only breeding stock and not going to be used otherwise.
