Offering Critique

I love looking at art and will be offering some critique to those that ask for it. I believe critique is one of the best learning tools for improving in art as well as practice and studying art. I've also found that many critiques that people give are filled with praise and while that is kind, it doesn't help the artist in the least in terms of improving. You need to know your mistakes to be able to fix them. I am not a professional (I have not been hired by any company for money). I have education in some art classes and humanities. So please keep that in mind while posting. I will not be an expert on anatomy or anything like that but I can perhaps give you new eyes on your art piece that maybe you haven't noticed before. The right side is not completed yet. I find it funny because the sweater looks like it is a black colored pencil because I didnt blend it yet or get to the final value xD. <a href="http://kaitie18.deviantart.com/"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://kaitie18.deviantart.com/</a>; This is my DA for those interested. I dont upload too often considering I work very slowly. Keep in Mind!: -I am no professional. I provided my examples of art so you may decide for yourself if you'd like some help. -I will be honest! I won't say everything is perfect because you can always improve. I won't be mean so don't be scared!

-I'm not as knowledgeable in photo-manipulations but I will try to give advice on that if you ask. -Feel free to give me any return critique if you'd like -If you want more of a private critique, message me. I'm excited to see what you guys have created

((I really like the concept you came up with. Its very neat with the grey values going into the vibrant colors. I feel like the fingers are a little short, especially the middle and ring finger. I am not sure if you used your own hand for reference? Its an uncommon hand pose so my guess is yes but feel free to correct me xD. I got my hand into this position as well and looked up some pictures of hands and you could probably give a little more definition of the joints on the index. Again, I love the concept and how the paint gets less opaque as it fills the flower.

. Try toning down the filters on some of these specifically the blurry bokeh. On the first one it is very distracting and immediately takes the eye to the lower left corner away from your subject. The images and the color changes you made are beautiful enough. You don't need to cover it with blur

. I hope some of this helped ^^. I really enjoyed your traditional. I love seeing traditional a lot =D

I don't mind at all! Sorry for the slow response, I was getting through my finals week

I think it would look more natural with a thinner pen than the one used already. I think the colors you picked are pretty

I think you should decide if you want to go all in and really make the dog a part of the night sky (getting rid of the darker blue shading on the dog) or make the dog more realistic in the sky (adding more details and making it stand out more from the background). I do like the slight bit of purple you have in there

It was good you made the background get darker as it went deeper into the cave. First thing I see is a lot of yellows. I think perhaps you should create contrast that makes things stand out more. You want the subject to be the first thing the eye catches and then you want the eye to slowly travel around the rest of the page (movement). Second thing is the font really really stands out. Its a lot sharper with the rest of the image. I think it would be more cohesive to have a slight transparency or a softer font to match your water color texture. The nose.. could use some more details

. Try looking up some references and practice drawing a few noses. Don't be afraid to try! ^^ Lastly I want to comment on is the eyes. Thank goodness you do not fall in the trap many people do. The eyes aren't just ovals and you see that! That's good! You didn't forget the tear duct shape either. The only thing missing is the reflection in the eye (the white reflection). It adds life to the eyes and gives them more depth. <a href="http://img856.imageshack.us/img856/7162/ltdeathfrombelow.jpg"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://img856.imageshack.us/img856/7162/ltdeathfrombelow.jpg</a> -I actually had to look up what that was. The graboid xD. On this one you got the reflection in the eye, awesome

. It adds a nice quality to the eyes! There is a lot of yellow again in this picture like the last. I think you should practice mixing some colors more and try to create more shades and varieties. I'm unsure if you just really like yellow, or its one of the colors you feel safest working with. Try to branch out, it allows you to create the contrast I mentioned earlier and really make things stand out

. I love the claws on this for some reason along with the rough skin texture on the legs ^^. What I think would be good, is to look up pen and ink methods, especially with the type of art you are doing. Learn about stippling, cross hatching, contour lines, and vertical lines! I actually had a project where we would use the pen to make these textures and shades, and then use water color over it. Perhaps you would find the techniques very helpful for future art. Sometimes when I'm bored I'll get some scratch paper and do a value scale using each of the techniques (other than contour) to practice. For vertical and crosshatching, on your final piece use a ruler!
