Why? Just why? I really don't mean to get whiney or anything but school's a mess... My science teacher is really....well...does not teach. So we started a new chapter in the book and supposedly, she gives tests every Wednesday to us which is fine. But sometimes I do not remember that there is a test. So I study last mintue, cram everything in. But on second thought, I wonder, did she even mention this? She didn't even lecture or with the slightest, MENTION about this section. Ugh. It really bugs me when I have to do that. Self studying/teaching--now a necessity in life.

 • Self studying/teaching is actually a really big necessity in life.
It applies with not only school, but jobs and simple everyday things like teaching yourself how to use a washing machine.
You may feel that at your age you shouldn't have to with school, which is perfectly normal, but when you grow up you really need to be able to independently learn.
If you go on to further education after school, teachers will simply lecture what they think is most important and a lot of knowledge is just assumed. You have to put in that extra bit of self-learning and you may even find that it helps you take in the knowledge better :)

The best thing to do in your situation with your science class is probably to spend a little time each night studying a section, regardless of if the teacher taught it or not. It should save you from all the cramming and doubts and hey, if you can stick to it then you'll have great study habits for later :)

Hang in there! School is one massive stressful rollercoaster but it is one of the most important times in your life.
 • This doesn't apply to most, I know, but for a good part of my elementary education, I was enrolled in schools that were individually student driven. What that meant was the student set their own goal for each subject and learned at their own pace. Once a kid learned to read, teachers were just there to give a hand if a student was having trouble, to oversee science experiments and such and to grade final tests, they didn't actually teach. It was the students who taught themselves using textbooks, including deciding when to take test and to grade their own work. If they passed themselves on their work, it was completely their fault if they failed a test. It was the best thing once I moved into public school because I didn't rely on the teachers at all unless I honestly couldn't figure something out on my own. It's really nice knowing I've learned something on my own and can do something without anyone helping me.

As clozo says, once you are beyond high school, unless you expect everyone around you to help you, you will have to teach yourself a lot of things.

Keep your chin up and nose to the grindstone and you'll make out just fine
