Almost 1 year that I have had Pav! (Pics Added)

So here is a question about my horse (or rather the family horse, that I picked out). His name is Pavarotti Forever. He is a 2008 Saddlebred. I know a lot of people on VP also work with horses, so I was wondering if anyone could answer some questions. <br>First, he is HUGE (at least for a Saddlebred). He is only 4, and measures in at 17.2 hands. Which leads to my question. I was told that horses often mirror their parent as far as how long they will grow, some stop at 4-5 years but most finish growing at 7 years. Meaning that if their parents stopped growing at 5, so will they. Is this true? Because pretty soon he won't fit in the barn. <br>Second, is their anyone who knows a lot about Saddlebreds? His father was SA Dorian Wild Temper. I was wondering how big he was. Thank for any help you can give.<br>Anyway, a little about Pav as we call him. He is so adorable. He still has his baby face. I will post pictures. It is so hard to believe that just this year he turned from colt to an adult. I am about to spend my first birthday, and the first year with him, so we will most likely go on a nice, long trail ride. Thanks for looking :)<br><br>*New Pics*<br><img src="http://i46.tinypic.com/o0aubt.jpg"; alt="http://i46.tinypic.com/o0aubt.jpg"; class="bb-image" /><br><br><img src="http://i49.tinypic.com/34opy00.jpg"; alt="http://i49.tinypic.com/34opy00.jpg"; class="bb-image" /><br><br><img src="http://i50.tinypic.com/2vv2rtf.jpg"; alt="http://i50.tinypic.com/2vv2rtf.jpg"; class="bb-image" /><br><br><img src="http://i48.tinypic.com/2crovtx.jpg"; alt="http://i48.tinypic.com/2crovtx.jpg"; class="bb-image" /><br><br>Here is his dad<br><img src="http://i47.tinypic.com/j0dx6b.jpg"; alt="http://i47.tinypic.com/j0dx6b.jpg"; class="bb-image" />

  • Generally horses grow tall until they are 5 and then they fill out and grow wider until 7 or so. However a lot of bloodlines do mature faster than others. However growth plates in a horses knee will not be sealed until they are 5. Once the growth plates are sealed the horse will not grow any taller. <br><br>I have a saddlebred and a half saddlebred. However i couldnt tell you anything about that specific horse. Have you called the person who bred him? Im sure if you did some research you could find out information about his parents.
  • ps. we need pictures =)
  • Yeah, there will definetley be pics :P . I actually believe the man who bred him died. Then his next owner was some big saddlebred trainer in Kentucky with probably no time for me, lol. However, his dad was really well known about 5-6 year ago.. He was a South African 5-gaited champion, then a 4 time American 5-gaited champion, then Reserve World Champion. So I was hoping someone might remember some info on him. I didn't follow Saddlebreds back then. Those were my " western days" before I switched to saddleseat lol. I will do some digging though. Thanks for the info on the growth plates and other stuff. It is comforting to know he will only grow for one more year.

  • No problem =) im more of a QH type person but i do know a TAD bit about thoroughbreds. My geldings mom (whom is a saddlebred) is more of a naturally gaited trail horse and definitally not anything show worthy in that world but i do think saddlebreds are gorgeous and she puts some wicked movement on her babies!! My baby Roman doesnt gait, but he's got some heck of some suspension and height in his gaits!! Then i can ask him to slow and calm down and he could be a western pleasure horse!
  • Can't wait to see pics!<br><br>so this is the father?: <a href="http://www.foxgrapefarms.com/DorianWildTemper.htm"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://www.foxgrapefarms.com/DorianWildTemper.htm</a>;

  • Yes, that is his father. Only thing is that ad is outdated. First of all, it doesnt have his complete show record (I think it ends in 2007), however the biggest outdate is the fact SA Dorian Wild Temper is deceased. Hence, he is not really standing for stud, lol. As far as the pictures, I am having problem figuring out how to load them on here, and cant find any helpful threads. Any suggestions?

  • So, I figured out how to add pics! They are on my original post.

  • Thats quite a neck he has!!
  • I know! Because of that long neck, he is almost 8 feet at the head, when his neck is stretched up. It makes bridleing him REAL fun when he decides to fight it, lol.

  • Yea i had seen else where that he was deceased, that the only place i could get pictures to load on my computer lol<br>but Pav is beautiful!!

  • Thanks! We certainly love him...others might consider him a disappointment (not being gaited and all with his bloodlines) but he is precious to us. He is the sweetest thing. He was even so calm that his old owner used him as a lesson horse when he was 3.
