<br><br>They are so cute! I haven't worked with cows for atleast 4 years :( I used to show in 4h, but then our family friend moved and we had no where at the time to keep any cows. <br><br>and the man we are getting him from said if we planned on him sticking around for a while that the best thing to do for his temperament would be for him to become a steer. I have always dealt with heifers, so I just took his word for it. plus I really doubt we will end up breeding him.

  • I dunno. Bulls are generally VERY sweet, especially when bottle fed. Theyre not like stallions on horses. My bull is a lovely boy. Also steers are usually only cut so they can go to the meat plant. If you ever sold him (not saying you will) then theres about a 99% chance that he would end up there however due to the hormones bulls have they never end up at meat packers. It does something to the flavor of the meat im told. I personally leave all my bulls intact. Ive never had any agression from a handraised bull. My best friend has a red brindle brangus bull she raised from literally 3 hours old and he loves to cuddle and lick you (stick your arm in his mouth!!!)

<br><br>are they still likely to get aggressive if later we decide to add some women to his life? Also if we allow my niece to eventually show him do they allow bulls at shows? i never remember seeing any :p our heifer we had was beyond friendly..she loved people!! Im very excited to get this little guy.

  • Only bull ive ever seen become agressive was agressive to start with and not hand raised. All bulls ive ever been around including my bottle bull AND my friends bottle bull have females. And yes. They do allow bulls at shows =)
  • hmm okay! i will have to talk to my dad then because i would love to eventually have little babies lol
    kelsbanner.png
  • Im not trying to talk ya out of it. Just let ya know that agression isnt a factor with bulls like it is with stallions. At least from my experience.

<br><br>Noo your not lol I was just going off the guy we found who was selling them, i have no experiences with bulls verses steers.

  • I had a bull calf named Blu whom would lick your fingers and i could play with him. He ended up eating plastic and it killed him =( Now i have two calves who didnt take to the bottle well so as long as im slow and easy going i can touch them but they dont particularly like me. Plus theyre dwarved. Theyre the size of 6 month olds and theyre both yearlings.
  • oh poor guy!! and i've seen mini ones for sale on sites..they are awful cute. I looked up crosses of the two this little guy should be and most of the bulls are HUGE. lol
    kelsbanner.png
  • they can be! Depends also on the quality. Mine are just pasture angus. Theres no way they would ever place in a show (especially since my heifer has a broken tail!!) and they MIGHT be 1000 lbs fully grown but show angus are HUGE. Same for a lot of breeds. My best friend shows Santa Gurtrudis (im her show day caddy. Thats how i know a bit about show cow and cow shows xD) and her heifer is supposed to top out at around 1700 lbs fully grown.
  • oh wow thats huge! i showed a braunvieh angus cross and she was a big girl! great show confo...then one time right in the middle of a show she decided to get frisky and she mounted another cow :/ it happened before i could even do anything lol
    kelsbanner.png
  • oh my!! The worst my friends does is lay down... and theres no stopping her when she decides too<br><br><img src="http://i49.tinypic.com/2qty4wo.jpg"; alt="http://i49.tinypic.com/2qty4wo.jpg"; class="bb-image" /><br>Sorry for the blue tint! My phone is crazy! Oh! And thats not the Gurt. This is a herford heifer owned by my neighbors who shows through the same association
  • she had NEVER done it before and i was like ahhhh!!! and your always having phone troubles :P lol and haha she just says shes so tired
    kelsbanner.png
  • She is only 4 months old xD The herf that is. If she doesnt want to walk with her handler she falls flat out (all four feet flying! Not just a normal lay down. She looks like she's shot haha!) and refuses to move. Her handler just left her there and thats how she ended up haha!
  • that is hilarious! you must get it on video sometime!!
    kelsbanner.png
  • I want too! It was hilarious! Ive only seen it once though. Last show i was a rung steward for the lambs since the ag teacher wanted a "seasoned professional" as the ring steward.... I was always a lamb shower. No cows. Plus i breed em now =)

<br><br>Really? Congrats! what breed? I always wanted to try and show sheep. I raised a bottle lamb once.. she was a twin but her sibling didn't make it :(

  • Mine are suffolk/hampshire cross' or Club lambs. Ive actually got some REALLY nice (HUGE) babies! I paid for a top dollar ram so my babies are excellent. My youngest is already showing. He's 5 months old and 106 lbs last weekend. His mom was 96 at a year old. Ill see if i can get a picture of the ewelet i kept.
  • I believe thats the same we had, she was born on presidents day if i remember right. <br>I would love to see pic! Sounds like a big one! What can you show in once someone is to old to be out of 4h and such? I have been our for almost two years.

She's six now. And yea. She's a rare blue just like her momma =)<br><br>This is Henry. Her half brother at 5 months at a show.<br><img src="http://i47.tinypic.com/2afip3s.jpg"; alt="http://i47.tinypic.com/2afip3s.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
  • ooo i LOVE the one in the 2nd picture! beautiful.
    kelsbanner.png
  • Those all the same lamb =) i only had two this year. A single from each momma. I kept the blue back to use as a breeder. Plus i love her too much to sell her. She's not the typical run away type lamb. I play with my babies so much that they LITERALLY try to crawl in their handlers laps at shows... ive seen it before O-o<br><br>Baby Henry. He was much more alert than lamblet was<br><br><img src="http://i46.tinypic.com/flvyih.jpg"; alt="http://i46.tinypic.com/flvyih.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
  • opps! well thats just a really great picture then lol<br>and awe so cute!! i love when their so friendly..looks like he was trying to suck on the pants lol makes me miss having little babies around! <br>ours name was Valentine..she LOVED my dad...when he got home from work she would go running for him and wouldn't leave his side.
    kelsbanner.png
  • He was sucking on my pant leg haha! I love em! I was told to consider VERY hard whether i wanted to take the time to breed something that is so hard to breed because baby lambs need very specific conditions to raise. Plus i had a BAD year with my rabbits and rabbits are supposedto be SUPER simple to breed. (rabbits are hard!!!!) And i was wondering what i got myself into but I never had not ONE problem with my lambs! I LOVE raising them. Theyre so sweet and tiny! And much more fun to play with than baby rabbits. I plan on raising them for a VERY long time!!

    kelsbanner.png
  • i dont want pigs!! i read animal farm! In that book they run the farmer out and run the farm themselves and make all the other animals slaves without them realizing it. They scare me now haha
  • I read that book to back in highschool!!! lol!
    kelsbanner.png
  • i couldnt finish it!!! It seriously freaked me out!! haha! Those poor animals! Gah! I refuse to have a pig!!!
