Does Anybody Else Do This??

I have an obsession with...dog collars o.o In my house there are currently 23 collars, plus 5 leashes, 2 harnesses, and one of the two dog leash things. Those are split up between only 4 dogs (the 3 I have now, and my Lab that passed away in September). And now I find myself online shopping for yet another one. So, does anybody else obsessively (sp?) buy collars, or I'm I alone? lol

  • I'm right there with you! I have 1 dog right now and she has 9 different collars, 10 leashes, 2 harnesses, 2 cooling coats, 1 backpack, 4 beds and enough toys and treats that when I moved I had to do 1 car full of just those! Not entirely sure why I have the obsession but I definitely understand it

  • I have a collection of cheap but sturdy leashes, just because I got sick of looking for one everytime I was packing for dog class. Also, all the dogs that are old enough to compete have their own slip leash and Emme has her own obedience leash. I'm much more obsessive about collars and tags. I insist that each dog has a special one and that each collar with the tags is saved. Plus my father insists his two dogs wear chains (don't worry, he puts the leash on the "wrong" ring so it doesn't choke them), so they both need extra flat buckle collars. On top of that I have a small collection of harness and a few gentle leaders. I'm not addicted... But when you have 6 dogs, stuff tends to pile up xD

  • No, you're not alone! I have one dog who has about.. 5 collars. XD The one she's wearing, the red one that is perfectly fine, just got really ratty. A lime green one that is too big, a light blue one with palm trees that is too big. Then finally, a camo collar that fits should something happen to the one she has now. We also have her broken puppy collar around here somewhere. XD Then two harnesses which I haven't even picked up in forever. 9 leashes that just kind of built up. Can never have too many leashes!

  • Um... Emily has over 25 nice collars just for herself. That's not counting the cheap pet store kind. Then there are the other dogs and I'm not positive how many they have. So, to say I have an obsession is mild. lol Perhaps an addiction to buying dog collars? They aren't cheap either. Some of my favorite companies: Collar Mania, Ella's Lead, Stillwater Kennel Supply, Paco Collars, and many more.
  • @ Zag: (Or anybody else) Have you ever bought one from Blocky Dogs? I really want to buy one similar to this one:<a href="http://www.blockydogs.com/Full-image-pages/stripes-titus.htm"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://www.blockydogs.com/Full-image-pages/stripes-titus.htm</a>, but I've never bought a "heavy duty" collar before and didn't know if the quality was good or not. It looks like a nice one, but looks can be decieving.

<br><br>I have heard nothing but good things about Blocky Dogs. I want a collar from the so bad! I hear that they have great customer service too. The only thing stopping me is that they are pretty pricey. Stillwater Kennel Supply is cheap and I've heard similar quality. I have several collars from there. The difference would be less variety to choose from and I don't think Stillwater embroiders anymore.
  • Hmm, I'll look into Stillwater then as well. I'm drooling over that Blocky Dogs collar though.

  • Between all of my dogs we have a closet holding only collars/harnesses and one holding leashes/leads/muzzles. We have a few hundred pairs, but I still buy more all the time. If my dog looks good in it, I'm buying it. It is definitely an obssession. And the stuff I buy is never cheap either. -__- The nice stuff is always wayyy over priced. The last Blocky Dog collar I got was for one of my Game Pits. It's still going strong, but was expensive, of course. My latest addition to our ever growing collection: <a href="http://i49.tinypic.com/33xk8kh.jpg"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://i49.tinypic.com/33xk8kh.jpg</a>. I bought it for a worker we have in training for Schutzhund. It absorbs the shock of the dog slamming against the man in attack. It's pretty cool what kinda stuff is available out there. <span style="font-size:50">I must buy them ALL!!!</span> <br><br>The oldest collar here belonged to an 18 year old Pittie that passed away a few years ago. The collar is a Harley Davidson spiked leather limited addition and is 21 years old. That was my uncle's first and only dog and he keeps that collar in his truck, constantly next to him. Amazing how special those things can be to someone.
Goodbye old VP, hello disaster. xD
  • Thats a really nice looking harness Zyn! That is really neat that it absorbs the shock :)<br><br>Yea, I can understand the sentiment of a collar. I made one of Dusty's into a bracelet and wear it quite often.
