• I recommend the following;

- The Looking Glass Wars trilogy by Frank Beddor
- Obernewtyn Chronicles by Isobelle Carmody
- Sweep series by Cate Tiernan
- Wicked series by by Nancy Holder
- Phantom Stallion series by Terri Farley (more geared to younger readers, but still a great read)
- Black Stallion series by Walter Farley (again, more geared to younger readers, but amazing all the same!)
- Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin
- Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac by Gabrielle Zevin
- A Break with Charity by Ann Rinaldi
- The Boy Who Couldn't Die by William Sleator
- Down a Dark Hall by Lois Duncan
- Divergent by Veronica Roth
- Stinger by Robert R. McCammon

Side notes: The Looking Glass Wars is based off of Alice in Wonderland, but with a really fantastic twist that keeps you entertained. The books by Gabrielle Zevin are incredible and Elsewhere will really make you think. Wicked and Sweep are similar. Wicked is better than Sweep, in my opinion, but they're both well worth a shot. As far as Divergent goes, it's similar to the Hunger Games, but it is interesting. A note about Obernewtyn, it's an Australian author so the books might not be as easy to come by in the states. I had to order mine online from B&N because none of the stores near me had any.

If you're into mysteries, thrillers, scary books, etc. I recommend anything from Dean Koontz or Stephen King. Some of them are better than others, of course. The first Stephen King novel I read was Rose Madder, and it really sparked my interest in his other books. Dean Koontz's Misery is really good, but kind of creepy as well.

    On an indefinite hiatus.
  • A friend of mine is has quite a few of John Greens books, she's rather a fan of them. I've read Paper Towns and it was pretty good.

What topics/age range for books are you interested in? I'm guessing young adult, but want to be sure... I've a good few hundred books in our spare room, with a bit more detail I could perhaps find a few recommendations.

Also, I can totally empathize with this- with a reading speed of 1000 words a second (+/- a bit sometimes) a good size book takes me a hour to a few hours to read, depending, so I run out quickly :P
    (SPIDERS!)
  • I second Divergent, and also the sequel Insurgent

Graceling, Fire, Bitterblue - Kristin Cashore
Uglies, Pretties, Specials, Extras, Bogus to Bubbly - Scott Westerfield
Dragons of Pern books - Anne McCaffrey - lots of books, more than 10 lol
A Song of Ice and Fire Series - George R.R. Martin (more violent and mature than the other books though) - 5 books
Watership Down, The Plague Dogs - Richard Adams
The Firekeeper Saga - Jane Lindskold - 6 books
Pretty much anything by Piers Anthony, he has several different types of series
The Handmaid's Tale - Margaret Atwood
Thoroughbred Series - Joanna Campbell - tons of books, geared towards a younger group but still good, especially the early books
Marley and Me - John Grogan
Promise of the Wolves, Secret of the Wolves - Dorothy Hearst
James Herriot's books if you like animal/vet stuff :)
the Warrior books if you like cats - for a younger audience but still really good

I use goodreads to tell me what to read lol. It suggests books based on what genres you like, and what books you've read or want to read. People also post ratings of the books and such.

Almost anything on young adult, especially funny stories or ones that drag out your emotions. I read about a novel a day during summer, so I go through books pretty fast.

• First off, The Scorpio Races was incredible, I read it when it was newer, because of the author, and I see it getting really popular.
By the same author of the Scorpio Races I'd recommend the Wolves of Mercy Falls trilogy (Shiver, Linger, and Forever) Bit of a sappy love story, it does bring out your emotions, if that's something you want.

The Maze Runner trilogy by James Dashner were extremely interesting. You just want to find out what is going on!

Incarceron and it's sequel Sapphique by Cathrine Fisher, Incarceron was a little boring at first, but the end leaves you like, "woah." I read it in two days.

The Matched trilogy by Allie Condie are up and coming in popularity with the final book coming out in November. It's a love story with a dynastopian twist.

And since I know you're into dogs, I'll recommend The Lost Dogs by Jim Gorant. It goes into depth on the Michael Vick dogfighting case. Part one is all about the fighting operation and part two is about rehabing the dogs and what some of them became. I have yet to finish it, but it's definitely interesting.

  • I second Looking Glass Wars
Maze Runner was good, as was Matched.

Dragonriders of Pern I found to be incredibly slow. I just couldn't get into it. The Song of Fire and Ice series is rather mature, and the first book is slow but it definitely picks up its pace.

His Majesty's Dragon was an -amazing- series. I also enjoy the books by Ellen Hopkins (Cranked, Burned, Impulse etc) but the format takes a bit of adjusting. Right now I'm reading the first Fablehaven book (taking a break from book three of The Song of Fire and Ice, and from Lord of the Flies. I read multiple books at once), and it's surprisingly good. 8D

One of my favorite authors, however, is Tamora Pierce.

  • Maggie Stiefvater (Scorpio Races author) also wrote the Mercy Falls series (Shiver, Linger & Forever).

It's a werewolf series, and it's probably my favorite series ever ^^
It's just adorable, captivating and about wolves! ^^

Purgatory's Playground - an original afterlife role play.
  • if you havent already read it try the Eragon Series (Eragon, Eldest, Brisngr, Inheritance) I found it a little hard to get into but after the first like 2chapters of Eragon it really picked up and I couldn't put it down. Took me around a month to read all 4.

Also I would recommend the Tattoo Faeries series by Melissa Marr (Wicked Lovely, Ink Exchange, Fragile Eternity, Radiant Shadows and Darkest Mercy)

And The Host by Stephanie Meyers is one of my faves

Definitely take Frost's suggestions (she knows what she's talking about)! She recommended these for me and now they are some of my favorite books. 8D

I read the first two and loved them, I didn't know there was a third.

Ohh, that sounds great.

And The Host by Stephanie Meyers is one of my faves

I started that and just quit half way through. I really don't like Stephanie Meyers writing style.

Has anyone heard of The Kite Runer? I have it for school reading but I'm reluctant to start because the book feels very hallow. I know, I'm odd >.<

  • Some series/books I would recommend would have to be:
The Hush, Hush series by Becca Fitzpatrick (hush, hush, crescendo, and silence) The 4th book hasn't came out for this series yet though.
The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare (total of 6 books) the 6th book won't be out till 2013.
I would also recommend any books by Ellen Hopkins. (Crank, Glass, Fallout all are a series and other books by her are burned, impulse, identical, tricks, and perfect) Her books tend to be tragic stories but it makes you realize that things like that happen everyday to people.
I have a ton, ton more I could tell you about but I can't think of any other ones at the moment xD
So if or when I think of other books I will let ya know :D
