Aggression & Cattle Herding

Well Para has a question again. I've looked though the event guides and what not and I know for herding you want a dog with low aggression and the guides say for cattle herding you want high aggression. I've been looking at dogs that have won past cattle herding events and a lot of them have low aggression, some 30 and below. So which is really best for cattle herding and does anyone use a high aggro or even a aggro maxed dog for cattle herding and place well?

  • I've tried high aggro, and it was awful.<br>I had a low aggro (-200something) yorkshire terrier, and he was bomb.

  • I've never fully understood Cattle Herding. Usually, I use aggro slightly higher than what I use in Herding, around 30. The dogs seem to do okay that way, but I've also won with a dog that has aggro in the negatives.

  • Thank you both for the replies. The 3 dogs I use now all have aggro in the negatives and do pretty good. I'm slowly working on my future eventers and breeding various lines and wasn't sure which direction to go with my cattle herding dogs. I know some of the events aren't scoring correctly so this may be why cattle herding is kinda odd.
  • I really think Nef just made a typo in the guide. I'm pretty sure Cattle Herd should also have aggression at -10%

  • Thanks Ori I will keep that in mind as I try my hand with cattle herding. I noticed a lot of people use the same dogs they do with herding for cattle herding and seem to do just fine.
