Sweet Thing-New Lease Mare :D

Well..as some of you know, I've been leasing a little chestnut mare.(:

So, I'm sure everyone would like a little bit of information, and of course pictures. :p

.:.Background.:.
Breed: Thoroughbred
Gender: Mare
Age: ~8 years
Height: ~15.2 hands
Build: Stocky build, more like a QH than a TB.
Training: She's currently a finished trail horse, but I am training her for games, which include: barrels, pole bending, keyhole, stakes, etc. I'm going to be showing her at fair in August this year, and I'm hoping for some nice paybacks. :p I'm hoping to show her in western pleasure, games, trail, and..anything else western, lol.
History: ST was a rescue horse. When her owner originally told me she was a rescue, I thought that she just bought her from someone and she may have been a bit skinny or the such. Well, she was actually rescued. About six years ago there was a seizure on a large farm a few counties up from us. A friend of hers asked if she'd be willing to trailer since the Humane Society was looking for trucks and trailers to haul the horses from the farm. Thinking she was just hauling from that farm to another, she obliged. Turns out, none of the horses had homes, and the horses being trailered were suppose to actually go home with whoever was trailering them. Well, H (we'll call her owner this) couldn't take both horses she had on her trailer, because there was no way she was going to be able to afford the boarding. So one of the other haulers took the other horse H had on her trailer and she kept ST.
None of these horses had been handled, let alone trained. At the property when she went to pick up ST there were 17 horses dead in the field, and over a dozen still hanging on. H was the last one to get her horse into the trailer. Everyone else were beating their horses on, and H was trying to convince ST on with Sweet Tarts (why she's named Sweet Thing). Being the last one to load, others decided they wanted to help. By helping, they decided they were going to try walking her on themselves by moving each foot. While H told them it was a bad idea, no one listened. The girl that was at ST's right hind got a kick to the knee and went right down onto her ass, and all H could do was try not to laugh and tell them, "I told ya so".

Well, there's all the background..lol. So, here's the pictures I know everyone's been waiting for. :p They're not the best pictures, and they're from the first time I rode her..but they'll do for now, eh?
<img src="http://i48.tinypic.com/156fls7.jpg"; alt="http://i48.tinypic.com/156fls7.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
<img src="http://i47.tinypic.com/20uv3sw.jpg"; alt="http://i47.tinypic.com/20uv3sw.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
<img src="http://i48.tinypic.com/2aaa6ww.jpg"; alt="http://i48.tinypic.com/2aaa6ww.jpg"; class="bb-image" />

Also, I'm now riding her in a Jr. Cowhorse with a copper roller in the middle, I had no lateral movement with the hackamore she had on in these, and if she had a fit, it was rather difficult to bring her head around.

 • wow. she's beautiful, if i had looked at the pictures before I read, I would have never thought she was a TB! Congrats! :)
 • I like the head shot, she has cute ears :) She looks grumpy or sleepy in the other two shots lol

 • I thought she was an Appendix when I first saw her, but nope..supposedly a pure TB. I couldn't tell you if she was registered or not though..lol. I will admit that she is slightly overweight..but I'll fix that pretty soon. I can already see her slimming down a bit and muscling up more within the past month.

An Ori, she was grumpy while she was tied..lol, extremely grumpy. She's rather buddy sour and her friends were on the other side of the trailer..not to mention I just got done tacking her up (did have to fix the saddle when I moved to that side since there isn't much pad up front..Not sure what happened, since it was even/straight on the other side, but stuff happens, eh? haha She was probably miserable because I hadn't flysprayed her yet either, and the flies were absolutely horrid. D:
Also, I like her ears too, I think they're absolutely adorable! I was told she didn't like her ears being touched and was headshy, but as soon as I start rubbing them she leans into my hand, lol.

I'm really excited to get her into an arena..I have a feeling she's going to blow away my expectations.
On our trail ride wednesday morning, we generally trotted the whole way unless it was too muddy or rough footing since her jog is equivilent to everyone else's walk..lol. Well, it turned out everytime we took a turn around a tree the footing was nice so I'd nudge her forward into a jog to catch back up and she'd want to shoot forward and canter off. Now, from what I was first told when I test rode her (was wanting to buy her and just about everything fell through) she's never cantered (barely even in the field) and that she just doesn't canter. Well, she may have a rough canter at first, but the past two times I've cantered her, she's smoothed out tremendously.

 • Thanks, Bobo..but you can't steal her, I need to show her in fair next month!!!

But, I have a feeling a bit of her stock will be gone as she becomes more fit..she's been slimming down the past 2 months I've been riding her, but you can tell she's becoming more muscled and fit.
I'm having great fun with her.(: I'm going on a trail ride tomorrow morning at one of the state parks, and I believe we're going to hit up the fairgrounds to use the arena as well. I can't keep myself contained about starting her on the patterns xD She's an extremely quick learner, and I believe whole-heartedly that she's going to be ready to run by fair.

 • Soo..today went absolutely exquisite! We did some trotting up/down hills, bending around barrels, and that she doesn't absolutely need to be with her buddies, lol. After about 5 minutes of, "I NEED TO BE OVER THERE" she started working really well, head level, nose almost to the vertical, and nicely rounded up. I did some trotting along the fence line, a few walk/trot circles, and then we did some work with the two barrels I got out. After a few times of have to direct her a bit more than I'd like, we did some really nice figure 8s with nice pockets and just a, "Pay attention, here" to go around the barrel. I'm planning on walk/trotting the actual pattern next time I'm out. Hopefully I'll get her to an actual arena (and not the "we want to catch you close and you can't run the miles of normal pasture you have" pasture) so I can start to canter her in the arena and get her doing some circles.

After the "arena" work, I went out on a trail with H (her owner) and we cantered along the hay fields where she slowed down into a great little lope that was well balanced and not rushy in any way. I sped her up a little at the end and she did as asked, while keeping the balance and not trying to just take off. And while a jerk decided to blow past us going about 55-60 as close as he could to us on the way back to the farm along the road, I'm really proud of her and think she did absolutely stunning.

And of course, we have pictures!

<img src="http://i49.tinypic.com/qzhuug.jpg"; alt="http://i49.tinypic.com/qzhuug.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
<img src="http://i49.tinypic.com/2m65u6s.jpg"; alt="http://i49.tinypic.com/2m65u6s.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
<img src="http://i46.tinypic.com/14uwfox.jpg"; alt="http://i46.tinypic.com/14uwfox.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
